- The elder to the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in truth; and not only I, but also all who know the truth,
- for the sake of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever:
- Grace, mercy and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
- I was very glad to find some of your children walking in truth, just as we have received commandment to do from the Father.
- Now I ask you, lady, not as though I were writing to you a new commandment, but the one which we have had from the beginning, that we love one another.

- 장로인 나는 택하심을 받은 믿음의 자매와 그 자녀들에게 이 글을 씁니다. 나는 여러분을 진정으로 사랑합니다. 나만이 아니라, 진리를 깨달은 모든 사람이 여러분을 사랑합니다.
- 그것은 지금 우리 속에 있고, 또 영원히 우리와 함께 할 그 진리 때문입니다.
- 하나님 아버지와 아버지의 아들 예수 그리스도께서 내려주시는 은혜와 자비와 평화가 진리와 사랑으로 우리와 함께 있기를 빕니다.
- 그대의 자녀 가운데 우리가 아버지께로부터 받은 계명대로 진리 안에서 살아가는 이들이 있는 것을 보고, 나는 매우 기뻐했습니다.
- 자매여, 지금 내가 그대에게 간청하는 것은, 우리 모두가 서로 사랑하자는 것입니다. 그렇지만 내가 새 계명을 써 보내는 것이 아니라, 우리가 처음부터 가지고 있는 계명을 써 보내는 것입니다.

- And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.
- For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh This is the deceiver and the antichrist.
- Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward.
- Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son.
- If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting;

- 사랑은 다름이 아니라 하나님의 계명을 따라 사는 것입니다. 계명은 다름이 아니라, 여러분이 처음부터 들은 대로, 사랑 안에서 살아가야 한다는 것입니다.
- 속이는 자들이 세상에 많이 나타났기 때문입니다. 그들은 예수 그리스도께서 육신을 입고 오셨음을 고백하지 않습니다. 이런 자야말로 속이는 자요, 그리스도의 적대자입니다.
- 여러분은 스스로 삼가서, 우리가 수고하여 맺은 열매를 잃지 말고, 충분히 포상을 받을 수 있도록 하십시오.
- 지나치게 나가서 그리스도의 가르침 안에 머물러 있지 아니한 사람은 누구든지, 하나님을 모시고 있지 아니한 사람입니다. 그 가르침 안에 머물러 있는 사람은 아버지와 아들을 다 모시고 있는 사람입니다.
- 누가 여러분을 찾아가서 이 가르침을 전하지 않으면, 그 사람을 집에 받아들이지도 말고, 인사도 하지 마십시오.
