  1. Now Moses was pasturing the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
  2. The angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not consumed.
  3. So Moses said, "I must turn aside now and see this marvelous sight, why the bush is not burned up."
  4. When the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am."
  5. Then He said, "Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground."
  1. Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
  2. There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up.
  3. So Moses thought, "I will go over and see this strange sight--why the bush does not burn up."
  4. When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, "Moses! Moses!" And Moses said, "Here I am."
  5. "Do not come any closer," God said. "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground."
  1. He said also, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob " Then Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
  2. The LORD said, "I have surely seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and have given heed to their cry because of their taskmasters, for I am aware of their sufferings.
  3. "So I have come down to deliver them from the power of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.
  4. "Now, behold, the cry of the sons of Israel has come to Me; furthermore, I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them.
  5. "Therefore, come now, and I will send you to Pharaoh, so that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt."
  1. Then he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob." At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
  2. The LORD said, "I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.
  3. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey--the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.
  4. And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them.
  5. So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt."
  1. But Moses said to God, "Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?"
  2. And He said, "Certainly I will be with you, and this shall be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall worship God at this mountain."
  3. Then Moses said to God, "Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel, and I will say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you.' Now they may say to me, 'What is His name?' What shall I say to them?"
  4. God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM"; and He said, "Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'"
  5. God, furthermore, said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you ' This is My name forever, and this is My memorial-name to all generations.
  1. But Moses said to God, "Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?"
  2. And God said, "I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain."
  3. Moses said to God, "Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' Then what shall I tell them?"
  4. God said to Moses, "I am who I am . This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.' "
  5. God also said to Moses, "Say to the Israelites, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers--the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob--has sent me to you.' This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.
  1. "Go and gather the elders of Israel together and say to them, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, has appeared to me, saying, "I am indeed concerned about you and what has been done to you in Egypt.
  2. "So I said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite, to a land flowing with milk and honey."'
  3. "They will pay heed to what you say; and you with the elders of Israel will come to the king of Egypt and you will say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us So now, please, let us go a three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.'
  4. "But I know that the king of Egypt will not permit you to go, except under compulsion.
  5. "So I will stretch out My hand and strike Egypt with all My miracles which I shall do in the midst of it; and after that he will let you go.
  1. "Go, assemble the elders of Israel and say to them, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers--the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob--appeared to me and said: I have watched over you and have seen what has been done to you in Egypt.
  2. And I have promised to bring you up out of your misery in Egypt into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites--a land flowing with milk and honey.'
  3. "The elders of Israel will listen to you. Then you and the elders are to go to the king of Egypt and say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Let us take a three-day journey into the desert to offer sacrifices to the LORD our God.'
  4. But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless a mighty hand compels him.
  5. So I will stretch out my hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go.
  1. "I will grant this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and it shall be that when you go, you will not go empty-handed.
  2. "But every woman shall ask of her neighbor and the woman who lives in her house, articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing; and you will put them on your sons and daughters Thus you will plunder the Egyptians."
  1. "And I will make the Egyptians favorably disposed toward this people, so that when you leave you will not go empty-handed.
  2. Every woman is to ask her neighbor and any woman living in her house for articles of silver and gold and for clothing, which you will put on your sons and daughters. And so you will plunder the Egyptians."

  1. Then Moses said, "What if they will not believe me or listen to what I say? For they may say, 'The LORD has not appeared to you.'"
  2. The LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?" And he said, "A staff."
  3. Then He said, "Throw it on the ground." So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it.
  4. But the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand and grasp it by its tail"--so he stretched out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand--
  5. "that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you."
  1. Moses answered, "What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, 'The LORD did not appear to you'?"
  2. Then the LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?" "A staff," he replied.
  3. The LORD said, "Throw it on the ground." Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it.
  4. Then the LORD said to him, "Reach out your hand and take it by the tail." So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand.
  5. "This," said the LORD, "is so that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers--the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob--has appeared to you."
  1. The LORD furthermore said to him, "Now put your hand into your bosom." So he put his hand into his bosom, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous like snow.
  2. Then He said, "Put your hand into your bosom again." So he put his hand into his bosom again, and when he took it out of his bosom, behold, it was restored like the rest of his flesh.
  3. "If they will not believe you or heed the witness of the first sign, they may believe the witness of the last sign.
  4. "But if they will not believe even these two signs or heed what you say, then you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground; and the water which you take from the Nile will become blood on the dry ground."
  5. Then Moses said to the LORD, "Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither recently nor in time past, nor since You have spoken to Your servant; for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue."
  1. Then the LORD said, "Put your hand inside your cloak." So Moses put his hand into his cloak, and when he took it out, it was leprous, like snow.
  2. "Now put it back into your cloak," he said. So Moses put his hand back into his cloak, and when he took it out, it was restored, like the rest of his flesh.
  3. Then the LORD said, "If they do not believe you or pay attention to the first miraculous sign, they may believe the second.
  4. But if they do not believe these two signs or listen to you, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you take from the river will become blood on the ground."
  5. Moses said to the LORD, "O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue."
  1. The LORD said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes him mute or deaf, or seeing or blind? Is it not I, the LORD?
  2. "Now then go, and I, even I, will be with your mouth, and teach you what you are to say."
  3. But he said, "Please, Lord, now send the message by whomever You will."
  4. Then the anger of the LORD burned against Moses, and He said, "Is there not your brother Aaron the Levite? I know that he speaks fluently. And moreover, behold, he is coming out to meet you; when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.
  5. "You are to speak to him and put the words in his mouth; and I, even I, will be with your mouth and his mouth, and I will teach you what you are to do.
  1. The LORD said to him, "Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD ?
  2. Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say."
  3. But Moses said, "O Lord, please send someone else to do it."
  4. Then the LORD's anger burned against Moses and he said, "What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and his heart will be glad when he sees you.
  5. You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do.
  1. "Moreover, he shall speak for you to the people; and he will be as a mouth for you and you will be as God to him.
  2. "You shall take in your hand this staff, with which you shall perform the signs."
  3. Then Moses departed and returned to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, "Please, let me go, that I may return to my brethren who are in Egypt, and see if they are still alive." And Jethro said to Moses, "Go in peace."
  4. Now the LORD said to Moses in Midian, "Go back to Egypt, for all the men who were seeking your life are dead."
  5. So Moses took his wife and his sons and mounted them on a donkey, and returned to the land of Egypt Moses also took the staff of God in his hand.
  1. He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him.
  2. But take this staff in your hand so you can perform miraculous signs with it."
  3. Then Moses went back to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, "Let me go back to my own people in Egypt to see if any of them are still alive." Jethro said, "Go, and I wish you well."
  4. Now the LORD had said to Moses in Midian, "Go back to Egypt, for all the men who wanted to kill you are dead."
  5. So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey and started back to Egypt. And he took the staff of God in his hand.
  1. The LORD said to Moses, "When you go back to Egypt see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders which I have put in your power; but I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go.
  2. "Then you shall say to Pharaoh, 'Thus says the LORD, "Israel is My son, My firstborn.
  3. "So I said to you, 'Let My son go that he may serve Me'; but you have refused to let him go Behold, I will kill your son, your firstborn."'"
  4. Now it came about at the lodging place on the way that the LORD met him and sought to put him to death.
  5. Then Zipporah took a flint and cut off her son's foreskin and threw it at Moses' feet, and she said, "You are indeed a bridegroom of blood to me."
  1. The LORD said to Moses, "When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders I have given you the power to do. But I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go.
  2. Then say to Pharaoh, 'This is what the LORD says: Israel is my firstborn son,
  3. and I told you, "Let my son go, so he may worship me." But you refused to let him go; so I will kill your firstborn son.' "
  4. At a lodging place on the way, the LORD met {Moses} and was about to kill him.
  5. But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son's foreskin and touched {Moses'} feet with it. "Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me," she said.
  1. So He let him alone. At that time she said, "You are a bridegroom of blood"--because of the circumcision.
  2. Now the LORD said to Aaron, "Go to meet Moses in the wilderness " So he went and met him at the mountain of God and kissed him.
  3. Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD with which He had sent him, and all the signs that He had commanded him to do.
  4. Then Moses and Aaron went and assembled all the elders of the sons of Israel;
  5. and Aaron spoke all the words which the LORD had spoken to Moses He then performed the signs in the sight of the people.
  1. So the LORD let him alone. (At that time she said "bridegroom of blood," referring to circumcision.)
  2. The LORD said to Aaron, "Go into the desert to meet Moses." So he met Moses at the mountain of God and kissed him.
  3. Then Moses told Aaron everything the LORD had sent him to say, and also about all the miraculous signs he had commanded him to perform.
  4. Moses and Aaron brought together all the elders of the Israelites,
  5. and Aaron told them everything the LORD had said to Moses. He also performed the signs before the people,
  1. So the people believed; and when they heard that the LORD was concerned about the sons of Israel and that He had seen their affliction, then they bowed low and worshiped.
  1. and they believed. And when they heard that the LORD was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped.
