- Then one of the twelve, named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests
- and said, "What are you willing to give me to betray Him to you?" And they weighed out thirty pieces of silver to him.
- From then on he began looking for a good opportunity to betray Jesus.
- Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?"
- And He said, "Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, 'The Teacher says, "My time is near; I am to keep the Passover at your house with My disciples."'"
|
- Then one of the Twelve--the one called Judas Iscariot--went to the chief priests
- and asked, "What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?" So they counted out for him thirty silver coins.
- From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.
- On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?"
- He replied, "Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, 'The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.' "
|
- The disciples did as Jesus had directed them; and they prepared the Passover.
- Now when evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the twelve disciples.
- As they were eating, He said, "Truly I say to you that one of you will betray Me."
- Being deeply grieved, they each one began to say to Him, "Surely not I, Lord?"
- And He answered, "He who dipped his hand with Me in the bowl is the one who will betray Me.
|
- So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.
- When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve.
- And while they were eating, he said, "I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me."
- They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, "Surely not I, Lord?"
- Jesus replied, "The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me.
|
- "The Son of Man is to go, just as it is written of Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born."
- And Judas, who was betraying Him, said, "Surely it is not I, Rabbi?" Jesus said to him, "You have said it yourself."
- While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is My body."
- And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you;
- for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.
|
- The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born."
- Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, "Surely not I, Rabbi?" Jesus answered, "Yes, it is you."
- While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body."
- Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you.
- This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
|
- "But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom."
- After singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
- Then Jesus said to them, "You will all fall away because of Me this night, for it is written, 'I WILL STRIKE DOWN THE SHEPHERD, AND THE SHEEP OF THE FLOCK SHALL BE SCATTERED.'
- "But after I have been raised, I will go ahead of you to Galilee."
- But Peter said to Him, "Even though all may fall away because of You, I will never fall away."
|
- I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom."
- When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
- Then Jesus told them, "This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: " 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'
- But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee."
- Peter replied, "Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will."
|
- Jesus said to him, "Truly I say to you that this very night, before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times."
- Peter said to Him, "Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You." All the disciples said the same thing too.
- Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to His disciples, "Sit here while I go over there and pray."
- And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and distressed.
- Then He said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me."
|
- "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times."
- But Peter declared, "Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you." And all the other disciples said the same.
- Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, "Sit here while I go over there and pray."
- He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled.
- Then he said to them, "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me."
|
- And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will."
- And He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, "So, you men could not keep watch with Me for one hour?
- "Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."
- He went away again a second time and prayed, saying, "My Father, if this cannot pass away unless I drink it, Your will be done."
- Again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.
|
- Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."
- Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. "Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?" he asked Peter.
- "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."
- He went away a second time and prayed, "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done."
- When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy.
|
- And He left them again, and went away and prayed a third time, saying the same thing once more.
- Then He came to the disciples and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.
- "Get up, let us be going; behold, the one who betrays Me is at hand!"
|
- So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.
- Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
- Rise, let us go! Here comes my betrayer!"
