  1. Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart,
  2. saying, "In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not respect man.
  3. "There was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying, 'Give me legal protection from my opponent.'
  4. "For a while he was unwilling; but afterward he said to himself, 'Even though I do not fear God nor respect man,
  5. yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her legal protection, otherwise by continually coming she will wear me out.'"
  1. Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.
  2. He said: "In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men.
  3. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.'
  4. "For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, 'Even though I don't fear God or care about men,
  5. yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually wear me out with her coming!' "
  1. And the Lord said, "Hear what the unrighteous judge said;
  2. now, will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry to Him day and night, and will He delay long over them?
  3. "I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?"
  4. And He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt:
  5. "Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
  1. And the Lord said, "Listen to what the unjust judge says.
  2. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?
  3. I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?"
  4. To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable:
  5. "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
  1. "The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: 'God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
  2. 'I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.'
  3. "But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, the sinner!'
  4. "I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."
  5. And they were bringing even their babies to Him so that He would touch them, but when the disciples saw it, they began rebuking them.
  1. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men--robbers, evildoers, adulterers--or even like this tax collector.
  2. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'
  3. "But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'
  4. "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
  5. People were also bringing babies to Jesus to have him touch them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them.
  1. But Jesus called for them, saying, "Permit the children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
  2. "Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all."
  1. But Jesus called the children to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
  2. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."
