  1. "I can do nothing on My own initiative As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
  2. "If I alone testify about Myself, My testimony is not true.
  3. "There is another who testifies of Me, and I know that the testimony which He gives about Me is true.
  4. "You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.
  5. "But the testimony which I receive is not from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved.
  1. By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.
  2. "If I testify about myself, my testimony is not valid.
  3. There is another who testifies in my favor, and I know that his testimony about me is valid.
  4. "You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth.
  5. Not that I accept human testimony; but I mention it that you may be saved.
  1. "He was the lamp that was burning and was shining and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.
  2. "But the testimony which I have is greater than the testimony of John; for the works which the Father has given Me to accomplish--the very works that I do--testify about Me, that the Father has sent Me.
  3. "And the Father who sent Me, He has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time nor seen His form.
  4. "You do not have His word abiding in you, for you do not believe Him whom He sent.
  5. "You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;
  1. John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.
  2. "I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the very work that the Father has given me to finish, and which I am doing, testifies that the Father has sent me.
  3. And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form,
  4. nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent.
  5. You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me,
  1. and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.
  2. "I do not receive glory from men;
  3. but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves.
  4. "I have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, you will receive him.
  5. "How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God?
  1. yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
  2. "I do not accept praise from men,
  3. but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts.
  4. I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him.
  5. How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God?
  1. "Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; the one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have set your hope.
  2. "For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me.
  3. "But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?"
  1. "But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set.
  2. If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.
  3. But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?"
