  1. Now David built houses for himself in the city of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.
  2. Then David said, "No one is to carry the ark of God but the Levites; for the LORD chose them to carry the ark of God and to minister to Him forever."
  3. And David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the LORD to its place which he had prepared for it.
  4. David gathered together the sons of Aaron and the Levites:
  5. of the sons of Kohath, Uriel the chief, and 120 of his relatives;
  1. After David had constructed buildings for himself in the City of David, he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.
  2. Then David said, "No one but the Levites may carry the ark of God, because the LORD chose them to carry the ark of the LORD and to minister before him forever."
  3. David assembled all Israel in Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the LORD to the place he had prepared for it.
  4. He called together the descendants of Aaron and the Levites:
  5. From the descendants of Kohath, Uriel the leader and 120 relatives;
  1. of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief, and 220 of his relatives;
  2. of the sons of Gershom, Joel the chief, and 130 of his relatives;
  3. of the sons of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the chief, and 200 of his relatives;
  4. of the sons of Hebron, Eliel the chief, and 80 of his relatives;
  5. of the sons of Uzziel, Amminadab the chief, and 112 of his relatives.
  1. from the descendants of Merari, Asaiah the leader and 220 relatives;
  2. from the descendants of Gershon, Joel the leader and 130 relatives;
  3. from the descendants of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the leader and 200 relatives;
  4. from the descendants of Hebron, Eliel the leader and 80 relatives;
  5. from the descendants of Uzziel, Amminadab the leader and 112 relatives.
  1. Then David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel and Amminadab,
  2. and said to them, "You are the heads of the fathers' households of the Levites; consecrate yourselves both you and your relatives, that you may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel to the place that I have prepared for it.
  3. "Because you did not carry it at the first, the LORD our God made an outburst on us, for we did not seek Him according to the ordinance."
  4. So the priests and the Levites consecrated themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel.
  5. The sons of the Levites carried the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles thereon, as Moses had commanded according to the word of the LORD.
  1. Then David summoned Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel and Amminadab the Levites.
  2. He said to them, "You are the heads of the Levitical families; you and your fellow Levites are to consecrate yourselves and bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it.
  3. It was because you, the Levites, did not bring it up the first time that the LORD our God broke out in anger against us. We did not inquire of him about how to do it in the prescribed way."
  4. So the priests and Levites consecrated themselves in order to bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel.
  5. And the Levites carried the ark of God with the poles on their shoulders, as Moses had commanded in accordance with the word of the LORD.
  1. Then David spoke to the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their relatives the singers, with instruments of music, harps, lyres, loud-sounding cymbals, to raise sounds of joy.
  2. So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel, and from his relatives, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and from the sons of Merari their relatives, Ethan the son of Kushaiah,
  3. and with them their relatives of the second rank, Zechariah, Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom and Jeiel, the gatekeepers.
  4. So the singers, Heman, Asaph and Ethan were appointed to sound aloud cymbals of bronze;
  5. and Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah and Benaiah, with harps tuned to alamoth;
  1. David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their brothers as singers to sing joyful songs, accompanied by musical instruments: lyres, harps and cymbals.
  2. So the Levites appointed Heman son of Joel; from his brothers, Asaph son of Berekiah; and from their brothers the Merarites, Ethan son of Kushaiah;
  3. and with them their brothers next in rank: Zechariah, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom and Jeiel, the gatekeepers.
  4. The musicians Heman, Asaph and Ethan were to sound the bronze cymbals;
  5. Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah and Benaiah were to play the lyres according to alamoth ,
  1. and Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, Jeiel and Azaziah, to lead with lyres tuned to the sheminith.
  2. Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was in charge of the singing; he gave instruction in singing because he was skillful.
  3. Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers for the ark.
  4. Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah and Eliezer, the priests, blew the trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-edom and Jehiah also were gatekeepers for the ark.
  5. So it was David, with the elders of Israel and the captains over thousands, who went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from the house of Obed-edom with joy.
  1. and Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jeiel and Azaziah were to play the harps, directing according to sheminith .
  2. Kenaniah the head Levite was in charge of the singing; that was his responsibility because he was skillful at it.
  3. Berekiah and Elkanah were to be doorkeepers for the ark.
  4. Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah and Eliezer the priests were to blow trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-Edom and Jehiah were also to be doorkeepers for the ark.
  5. So David and the elders of Israel and the commanders of units of a thousand went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from the house of Obed-Edom, with rejoicing.
  1. Because God was helping the Levites who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.
  2. Now David was clothed with a robe of fine linen with all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and the singers and Chenaniah the leader of the singing with the singers. David also wore an ephod of linen.
  3. Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the horn, with trumpets, with loud-sounding cymbals, with harps and lyres.
  4. It happened when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and celebrating; and she despised him in her heart.
  1. Because God had helped the Levites who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD, seven bulls and seven rams were sacrificed.
  2. Now David was clothed in a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and as were the singers, and Kenaniah, who was in charge of the singing of the choirs. David also wore a linen ephod.
  3. So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouts, with the sounding of rams' horns and trumpets, and of cymbals, and the playing of lyres and harps.
  4. As the ark of the covenant of the LORD was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David dancing and celebrating, she despised him in her heart.

  3. He distributed to everyone of Israel, both man and woman, to everyone a loaf of bread and a portion of meat and a raisin cake.
  4. He appointed some of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the LORD, even to celebrate and to thank and praise the LORD God of Israel:
  5. Asaph the chief, and second to him Zechariah, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom and Jeiel, with musical instruments, harps, lyres; also Asaph played loud-sounding cymbals,

  4. When they were but few in number, few indeed, and strangers in it,
  5. they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another.
  1. He permitted no man to oppress them, And He reproved kings for their sakes, saying,
  2. "Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm."
  3. Sing to the LORD, all the earth; Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day.
