  1. I wish that you would bear with me in a little foolishness; but indeed you are bearing with me.
  2. For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin.
  3. But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.
  4. For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully.
  5. For I consider myself not in the least inferior to the most eminent apostles.
  1. I hope you will put up with a little of my foolishness; but you are already doing that.
  2. I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him.
  3. But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.
  4. For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.
  5. But I do not think I am in the least inferior to those "super-apostles."
  1. But even if I am unskilled in speech, yet I am not so in knowledge; in fact, in every way we have made this evident to you in all things.
  2. Or did I commit a sin in humbling myself so that you might be exalted, because I preached the gospel of God to you without charge?
  3. I robbed other churches by taking wages from them to serve you;
  4. and when I was present with you and was in need, I was not a burden to anyone; for when the brethren came from Macedonia they fully supplied my need, and in everything I kept myself from being a burden to you, and will continue to do so.
  5. As the truth of Christ is in me, this boasting of mine will not be stopped in the regions of Achaia.
  1. I may not be a trained speaker, but I do have knowledge. We have made this perfectly clear to you in every way.
  2. Was it a sin for me to lower myself in order to elevate you by preaching the gospel of God to you free of charge?
  3. I robbed other churches by receiving support from them so as to serve you.
  4. And when I was with you and needed something, I was not a burden to anyone, for the brothers who came from Macedonia supplied what I needed. I have kept myself from being a burden to you in any way, and will continue to do so.
  5. As surely as the truth of Christ is in me, nobody in the regions of Achaia will stop this boasting of mine.
  1. Why? Because I do not love you? God knows I do!
  2. But what I am doing I will continue to do, so that I may cut off opportunity from those who desire an opportunity to be regarded just as we are in the matter about which they are boasting.
  3. For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.
  4. No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
  5. Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.
  1. Why? Because I do not love you? God knows I do!
  2. And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about.
  3. For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ.
  4. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.
  5. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.
