  1. And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
  2. "Son of man, say to her, 'You are a land that is not cleansed or rained on in the day of indignation.'
  3. "There is a conspiracy of her prophets in her midst like a roaring lion tearing the prey They have devoured lives; they have taken treasure and precious things; they have made many widows in the midst of her.
  4. "Her priests have done violence to My law and have profaned My holy things; they have made no distinction between the holy and the profane, and they have not taught the difference between the unclean and the clean; and they hide their eyes from My sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.
  5. "Her princes within her are like wolves tearing the prey, by shedding blood and destroying lives in order to get dishonest gain.
  1. Again the word of the LORD came to me:
  2. "Son of man, say to the land, 'You are a land that has had no rain or showers in the day of wrath.'
  3. There is a conspiracy of her princes within her like a roaring lion tearing its prey; they devour people, take treasures and precious things and make many widows within her.
  4. Her priests do violence to my law and profane my holy things; they do not distinguish between the holy and the common; they teach that there is no difference between the unclean and the clean; and they shut their eyes to the keeping of my Sabbaths, so that I am profaned among them.
  5. Her officials within her are like wolves tearing their prey; they shed blood and kill people to make unjust gain.
  1. "Her prophets have smeared whitewash for them, seeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, 'Thus says the Lord GOD,' when the LORD has not spoken.
  2. "The people of the land have practiced oppression and committed robbery, and they have wronged the poor and needy and have oppressed the sojourner without justice.
  3. "I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one.
  4. "Thus I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; their way I have brought upon their heads," declares the Lord GOD.
  1. Her prophets whitewash these deeds for them by false visions and lying divinations. They say, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says'-when the LORD has not spoken.
  2. The people of the land practice extortion and commit robbery; they oppress the poor and needy and mistreat the alien, denying them justice.
  3. "I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none.
  4. So I will pour out my wrath on them and consume them with my fiery anger, bringing down on their own heads all they have done, declares the Sovereign LORD."

  1. The word of the LORD came to me again, saying,
  2. "Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother;
  3. and they played the harlot in Egypt. They played the harlot in their youth; there their breasts were pressed and there their virgin bosom was handled.
  4. "Their names were Oholah the elder and Oholibah her sister. And they became Mine, and they bore sons and daughters. And as for their names, Samaria is Oholah and Jerusalem is Oholibah.
  5. "Oholah played the harlot while she was Mine; and she lusted after her lovers, after the Assyrians, her neighbors,
  1. The word of the LORD came to me:
  2. "Son of man, there were two women, daughters of the same mother.
  3. They became prostitutes in Egypt, engaging in prostitution from their youth. In that land their breasts were fondled and their virgin bosoms caressed.
  4. The older was named Oholah, and her sister was Oholibah. They were mine and gave birth to sons and daughters. Oholah is Samaria, and Oholibah is Jerusalem.
  5. "Oholah engaged in prostitution while she was still mine; and she lusted after her lovers, the Assyrians-warriors
  1. who were clothed in purple, governors and officials, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding on horses.
  2. "She bestowed her harlotries on them, all of whom were the choicest men of Assyria; and with all whom she lusted after, with all their idols she defiled herself.
  3. "She did not forsake her harlotries from the time in Egypt; for in her youth men had lain with her, and they handled her virgin bosom and poured out their lust on her.
  4. "Therefore, I gave her into the hand of her lovers, into the hand of the Assyrians, after whom she lusted.
  5. "They uncovered her nakedness; they took her sons and her daughters, but they slew her with the sword. Thus she became a byword among women, and they executed judgments on her.
  1. clothed in blue, governors and commanders, all of them handsome young men, and mounted horsemen.
  2. She gave herself as a prostitute to all the elite of the Assyrians and defiled herself with all the idols of everyone she lusted after.
  3. She did not give up the prostitution she began in Egypt, when during her youth men slept with her, caressed her virgin bosom and poured out their lust upon her.
  4. "Therefore I handed her over to her lovers, the Assyrians, for whom she lusted.
  5. They stripped her naked, took away her sons and daughters and killed her with the sword. She became a byword among women, and punishment was inflicted on her.
  1. "Now her sister Oholibah saw this, yet she was more corrupt in her lust than she, and her harlotries were more than the harlotries of her sister.
  2. "She lusted after the Assyrians, governors and officials, the ones near, magnificently dressed, horsemen riding on horses, all of them desirable young men.
  3. "I saw that she had defiled herself; they both took the same way.
  4. "So she increased her harlotries. And she saw men portrayed on the wall, images of the Chaldeans portrayed with vermilion,
  5. girded with belts on their loins, with flowing turbans on their heads, all of them looking like officers, like the Babylonians in Chaldea, the land of their birth.
  1. "Her sister Oholibah saw this, yet in her lust and prostitution she was more depraved than her sister.
  2. She too lusted after the Assyrians--governors and commanders, warriors in full dress, mounted horsemen, all handsome young men.
  3. I saw that she too defiled herself; both of them went the same way.
  4. "But she carried her prostitution still further. She saw men portrayed on a wall, figures of Chaldeans portrayed in red,
  5. with belts around their waists and flowing turbans on their heads; all of them looked like Babylonian chariot officers, natives of Chaldea.
  1. "When she saw them she lusted after them and sent messengers to them in Chaldea.
  2. "The Babylonians came to her to the bed of love and defiled her with their harlotry. And when she had been defiled by them, she became disgusted with them.
  3. "She uncovered her harlotries and uncovered her nakedness; then I became disgusted with her, as I had become disgusted with her sister.
  4. "Yet she multiplied her harlotries, remembering the days of her youth, when she played the harlot in the land of Egypt.
  5. "She lusted after their paramours, whose flesh is like the flesh of donkeys and whose issue is like the issue of horses.
  1. As soon as she saw them, she lusted after them and sent messengers to them in Chaldea.
  2. Then the Babylonians came to her, to the bed of love, and in their lust they defiled her. After she had been defiled by them, she turned away from them in disgust.
  3. When she carried on her prostitution openly and exposed her nakedness, I turned away from her in disgust, just as I had turned away from her sister.
  4. Yet she became more and more promiscuous as she recalled the days of her youth, when she was a prostitute in Egypt.
  5. There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.
  1. "Thus you longed for the lewdness of your youth, when the Egyptians handled your bosom because of the breasts of your youth.
  2. "Therefore, O Oholibah, thus says the Lord GOD, 'Behold I will arouse your lovers against you, from whom you were alienated, and I will bring them against you from every side:
  3. the Babylonians and all the Chaldeans, Pekod and Shoa and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them; desirable young men, governors and officials all of them, officers and men of renown, all of them riding on horses.
  4. 'They will come against you with weapons, chariots and wagons, and with a company of peoples They will set themselves against you on every side with buckler and shield and helmet; and I will commit the judgment to them, and they will judge you according to their customs.
  5. 'I will set My jealousy against you, that they may deal with you in wrath They will remove your nose and your ears; and your survivors will fall by the sword They will take your sons and your daughters; and your survivors will be consumed by the fire.
  1. So you longed for the lewdness of your youth, when in Egypt your bosom was caressed and your young breasts fondled.
  2. "Therefore, Oholibah, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will stir up your lovers against you, those you turned away from in disgust, and I will bring them against you from every side-
  3. the Babylonians and all the Chaldeans, the men of Pekod and Shoa and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them, handsome young men, all of them governors and commanders, chariot officers and men of high rank, all mounted on horses.
  4. They will come against you with weapons, chariots and wagons and with a throng of people; they will take up positions against you on every side with large and small shields and with helmets. I will turn you over to them for punishment, and they will punish you according to their standards.
  5. I will direct my jealous anger against you, and they will deal with you in fury. They will cut off your noses and your ears, and those of you who are left will fall by the sword. They will take away your sons and daughters, and those of you who are left will be consumed by fire.
  1. 'They will also strip you of your clothes and take away your beautiful jewels.
  2. 'Thus I will make your lewdness and your harlotry brought from the land of Egypt to cease from you, so that you will not lift up your eyes to them or remember Egypt anymore.'
  3. "For thus says the Lord GOD, 'Behold, I will give you into the hand of those whom you hate, into the hand of those from whom you were alienated.
  4. 'They will deal with you in hatred, take all your property, and leave you naked and bare. And the nakedness of your harlotries will be uncovered, both your lewdness and your harlotries.
  5. 'These things will be done to you because you have played the harlot with the nations, because you have defiled yourself with their idols.
  1. They will also strip you of your clothes and take your fine jewelry.
  2. So I will put a stop to the lewdness and prostitution you began in Egypt. You will not look on these things with longing or remember Egypt anymore.
  3. "For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am about to hand you over to those you hate, to those you turned away from in disgust.
  4. They will deal with you in hatred and take away everything you have worked for. They will leave you naked and bare, and the shame of your prostitution will be exposed. Your lewdness and promiscuity
  5. have brought this upon you, because you lusted after the nations and defiled yourself with their idols.
  1. 'You have walked in the way of your sister; therefore I will give her cup into your hand.'
  2. "Thus says the Lord GOD, 'You will drink your sister's cup, Which is deep and wide You will be laughed at and held in derision; It contains much.
  3. 'You will be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, The cup of horror and desolation, The cup of your sister Samaria.
  4. 'You will drink it and drain it. Then you will gnaw its fragments And tear your breasts; for I have spoken,' declares the Lord GOD.
  5. "Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, 'Because you have forgotten Me and cast Me behind your back, bear now the punishment of your lewdness and your harlotries.'"
  1. You have gone the way of your sister; so I will put her cup into your hand.
  2. "This is what the Sovereign LORD says: "You will drink your sister's cup, a cup large and deep; it will bring scorn and derision, for it holds so much.
  3. You will be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, the cup of ruin and desolation, the cup of your sister Samaria.
  4. You will drink it and drain it dry; you will dash it to pieces and tear your breasts. I have spoken, declares the Sovereign LORD.
  5. "Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: Since you have forgotten me and thrust me behind your back, you must bear the consequences of your lewdness and prostitution."
  1. Moreover, the LORD said to me, "Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then declare to them their abominations.
  2. "For they have committed adultery, and blood is on their hands. Thus they have committed adultery with their idols and even caused their sons, whom they bore to Me, to pass through the fire to them as food.
  3. "Again, they have done this to Me: they have defiled My sanctuary on the same day and have profaned My sabbaths.
  4. "For when they had slaughtered their children for their idols, they entered My sanctuary on the same day to profane it; and lo, thus they did within My house.
  5. "Furthermore, they have even sent for men who come from afar, to whom a messenger was sent; and lo, they came--for whom you bathed, painted your eyes and decorated yourselves with ornaments;
  1. The LORD said to me: "Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then confront them with their detestable practices,
  2. for they have committed adultery and blood is on their hands. They committed adultery with their idols; they even sacrificed their children, whom they bore to me, as food for them.
  3. They have also done this to me: At that same time they defiled my sanctuary and desecrated my Sabbaths.
  4. On the very day they sacrificed their children to their idols, they entered my sanctuary and desecrated it. That is what they did in my house.
  5. "They even sent messengers for men who came from far away, and when they arrived you bathed yourself for them, painted your eyes and put on your jewelry.
  1. and you sat on a splendid couch with a table arranged before it on which you had set My incense and My oil.
  2. "The sound of a carefree multitude was with her; and drunkards were brought from the wilderness with men of the common sort And they put bracelets on the hands of the women and beautiful crowns on their heads.
  3. "Then I said concerning her who was worn out by adulteries, 'Will they now commit adultery with her when she is thus?'
  4. "But they went in to her as they would go in to a harlot. Thus they went in to Oholah and to Oholibah, the lewd women.
  5. "But they, righteous men, will judge them with the judgment of adulteresses and with the judgment of women who shed blood, because they are adulteresses and blood is on their hands.
  1. You sat on an elegant couch, with a table spread before it on which you had placed the incense and oil that belonged to me.
  2. "The noise of a carefree crowd was around her; Sabeans were brought from the desert along with men from the rabble, and they put bracelets on the arms of the woman and her sister and beautiful crowns on their heads.
  3. Then I said about the one worn out by adultery, 'Now let them use her as a prostitute, for that is all she is.'
  4. And they slept with her. As men sleep with a prostitute, so they slept with those lewd women, Oholah and Oholibah.
  5. But righteous men will sentence them to the punishment of women who commit adultery and shed blood, because they are adulterous and blood is on their hands.
  1. "For thus says the Lord GOD, 'Bring up a company against them and give them over to terror and plunder.
  2. 'The company will stone them with stones and cut them down with their swords; they will slay their sons and their daughters and burn their houses with fire.
  3. 'Thus I will make lewdness cease from the land, that all women may be admonished and not commit lewdness as you have done.
  4. 'Your lewdness will be requited upon you, and you will bear the penalty of worshiping your idols; thus you will know that I am the Lord GOD.'"
  1. "This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Bring a mob against them and give them over to terror and plunder.
  2. The mob will stone them and cut them down with their swords; they will kill their sons and daughters and burn down their houses.
  3. "So I will put an end to lewdness in the land, that all women may take warning and not imitate you.
  4. You will suffer the penalty for your lewdness and bear the consequences of your sins of idolatry. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign LORD."
