  1. So Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev, he and his wife and all that belonged to him, and Lot with him.
  2. Now Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver and in gold.
  3. He went on his journeys from the Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,
  4. to the place of the altar which he had made there formerly; and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.
  5. Now Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents.
  1. And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.
  2. And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.
  3. And he went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Hai;
  4. Unto the place of the altar, which he had make there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.
  5. And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.
  1. And the land could not sustain them while dwelling together, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to remain together.
  2. And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock Now the Canaanite and the Perizzite were dwelling then in the land.
  3. So Abram said to Lot, "Please let there be no strife between you and me, nor between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are brothers.
  4. "Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me; if to the left, then I will go to the right; or if to the right, then I will go to the left."
  5. Lot lifted up his eyes and saw all the valley of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere--this was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah--like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt as you go to Zoar.
  1. And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.
  2. And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.
  3. And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.
  4. Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.
  5. And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
  1. So Lot chose for himself all the valley of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward. Thus they separated from each other.
  2. Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled in the cities of the valley, and moved his tents as far as Sodom.
  3. Now the men of Sodom were wicked exceedingly and sinners against the LORD.
  4. The LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, "Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward;
  5. for all the land which you see, I will give it to you and to your descendants forever.
  1. Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.
  2. Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.
  3. But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.
  4. And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:
  5. For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.
  1. "I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth, so that if anyone can number the dust of the earth, then your descendants can also be numbered.
  2. "Arise, walk about the land through its length and breadth; for I will give it to you."
  3. Then Abram moved his tent and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and there he built an altar to the LORD.
  1. And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.
  2. Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.
  3. Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD.

  1. And it came about in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim,
  2. that they made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).
  3. All these came as allies to the valley of Siddim (that is, the Salt Sea).
  4. Twelve years they had served Chedorlaomer, but the thirteenth year they rebelled.

  4. against Chedorlaomer king of Elam and Tidal king of Goiim and Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar--four kings against five.

  3. And there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar;) and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim;
  4. With Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and with Tidal king of nations, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings with five.
  5. And the vale of Siddim was full of slimepits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there; and they that remained fled to the mountain.
  1. Then they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food supply, and departed.
  2. They also took Lot, Abram's nephew, and his possessions and departed, for he was living in Sodom.
  3. Then a fugitive came and told Abram the Hebrew Now he was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner, and these were allies with Abram.
  4. When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he led out his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen, and went in pursuit as far as Dan.
  5. He divided his forces against them by night, he and his servants, and defeated them, and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus.
  1. And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and went their way.
  2. And they took Lot, Abram's brother's son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.
  3. And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.
  4. And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.
  5. And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.
  1. He brought back all the goods, and also brought back his relative Lot with his possessions, and also the women, and the people.
  2. Then after his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley).
  3. And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; now he was a priest of God Most High.
  4. He blessed him and said, "Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth;
  5. And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand." He gave him a tenth of all.

  4. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:
  5. And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
  1. The king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give the people to me and take the goods for yourself."
  2. Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have sworn to the LORD God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth,
  3. that I will not take a thread or a sandal thong or anything that is yours, for fear you would say, 'I have made Abram rich.'
  4. "I will take nothing except what the young men have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their share."
  1. And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself.
  2. And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,
  3. That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:
  4. Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.

  1. After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great."
  2. Abram said, "O Lord GOD, what will You give me, since I am childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?"
  3. And Abram said, "Since You have given no offspring to me, one born in my house is my heir."
  4. Then behold, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, "This man will not be your heir; but one who will come forth from your own body, he shall be your heir."
  5. And He took him outside and said, "Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to count them " And He said to him, "So shall your descendants be."
  1. After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
  2. And Abram said, LORD God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?
  3. And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
  4. And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
  5. And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
  1. Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness.
  2. And He said to him, "I am the LORD who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to possess it."
  3. He said, "O Lord GOD, how may I know that I will possess it?"
  4. So He said to him, "Bring Me a three year old heifer, and a three year old female goat, and a three year old ram, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon."
  5. Then he brought all these to Him and cut them in two, and laid each half opposite the other; but he did not cut the birds.
  1. And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
  2. And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.
  3. And he said, LORD God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?
  4. And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
  5. And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.
  1. The birds of prey came down upon the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.
  2. Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, terror and great darkness fell upon him.
  3. God said to Abram, "Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, where they will be enslaved and oppressed four hundred years.
  4. "But I will also judge the nation whom they will serve, and afterward they will come out with many possessions.
  5. "As for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you will be buried at a good old age.
  1. And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.
  2. And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.
  3. And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not their's, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
  4. And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
  5. And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
  1. "Then in the fourth generation they will return here, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete."
  2. It came about when the sun had set, that it was very dark, and behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a flaming torch which passed between these pieces.
  3. On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your descendants I have given this land, From the river of Egypt as far as the great river, the river Euphrates:
  4. the Kenite and the Kenizzite and the Kadmonite
  5. and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Rephaim
  1. But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
  2. And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
  3. In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
  4. The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,
  5. And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,
  1. and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Girgashite and the Jebusite."
