  1. Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the people any one prisoner whom they wanted.
  2. At that time they were holding a notorious prisoner, called Barabbas.
  3. So when the people gathered together, Pilate said to them, "Whom do you want me to release for you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?"
  4. For he knew that because of envy they had handed Him over.
  5. While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him a message, saying, "Have nothing to do with that righteous Man; for last night I suffered greatly in a dream because of Him."
  1. Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.
  2. And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
  3. Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?
  4. For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
  5. When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
  1. But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to put Jesus to death.
  2. But the governor said to them, "Which of the two do you want me to release for you?" And they said, "Barabbas."
  3. Pilate said to them, "Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?" They all said, "Crucify Him!"
  4. And he said, "Why, what evil has He done?" But they kept shouting all the more, saying, "Crucify Him!"
  5. When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this Man's blood; see to that yourselves."
  1. But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
  2. The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.
  3. Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.
  4. And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
  5. When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.
  1. And all the people said, "His blood shall be on us and on our children!"
  2. Then he released Barabbas for them; but after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified.
  3. Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole Roman cohort around Him.
  4. They stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him.
  5. And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!"
  1. Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
  2. Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
  3. Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.
  4. And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
  5. And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
  1. They spat on Him, and took the reed and began to beat Him on the head.
  2. After they had mocked Him, they took the scarlet robe off Him and put His own garments back on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him.
  1. And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.
  2. And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.
