  1. Then Solomon formed a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter and brought her to the city of David until he had finished building his own house and the house of the LORD and the wall around Jerusalem.
  2. The people were still sacrificing on the high places, because there was no house built for the name of the LORD until those days.
  3. Now Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of his father David, except he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
  4. The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place; Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.
  5. In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream at night; and God said, "Ask what you wish me to give you."
  1. And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.
  2. Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the LORD, until those days.
  3. And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.
  4. And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.
  5. In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.
  1. Then Solomon said, "You have shown great lovingkindness to Your servant David my father, according as he walked before You in truth and righteousness and uprightness of heart toward You; and You have reserved for him this great lovingkindness, that You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
  2. "Now, O LORD my God, You have made Your servant king in place of my father David, yet I am but a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in.
  3. "Your servant is in the midst of Your people which You have chosen, a great people who are too many to be numbered or counted.
  4. "So give Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?"
  5. It was pleasing in the sight of the Lord that Solomon had asked this thing.
  1. And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
  2. And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.
  3. And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
  4. Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
  5. And the speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this thing.
  1. God said to him, "Because you have asked this thing and have not asked for yourself long life, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself discernment to understand justice,
  2. behold, I have done according to your words Behold, I have given you a wise and discerning heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, nor shall one like you arise after you.
  3. "I have also given you what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there will not be any among the kings like you all your days.
  4. "If you walk in My ways, keeping My statutes and commandments, as your father David walked, then I will prolong your days."
  5. Then Solomon awoke, and behold, it was a dream And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and made peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.
  1. And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;
  2. Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
  3. And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.
  4. And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.
  5. And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.
  1. Then two women who were harlots came to the king and stood before him.
  2. The one woman said, "Oh, my lord, this woman and I live in the same house; and I gave birth to a child while she was in the house.
  3. "It happened on the third day after I gave birth, that this woman also gave birth to a child, and we were together. There was no stranger with us in the house, only the two of us in the house.
  4. "This woman's son died in the night, because she lay on it.
  5. "So she arose in the middle of the night and took my son from beside me while your maidservant slept, and laid him in her bosom, and laid her dead son in my bosom.
  1. Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.
  2. And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.
  3. And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.
  4. And this woman's child died in the night; because she overlaid it.
  5. And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.
  1. "When I rose in the morning to nurse my son, behold, he was dead; but when I looked at him carefully in the morning, behold, he was not my son, whom I had borne."
  2. Then the other woman said, "No! For the living one is my son, and the dead one is your son." But the first woman said, "No! For the dead one is your son, and the living one is my son." Thus they spoke before the king.
  3. Then the king said, "The one says, 'This is my son who is living, and your son is the dead one'; and the other says, 'No! For your son is the dead one, and my son is the living one.'"
  4. The king said, "Get me a sword." So they brought a sword before the king.
  5. The king said, "Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one and half to the other."
  1. And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.
  2. And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king.
  3. Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living.
  4. And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.
  5. And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.
  1. Then the woman whose child was the living one spoke to the king, for she was deeply stirred over her son and said, "Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and by no means kill him." But the other said, "He shall be neither mine nor yours; divide him!"
  2. Then the king said, "Give the first woman the living child, and by no means kill him. She is his mother."
  3. When all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had handed down, they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to administer justice.
  1. Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.
  2. Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.
  3. And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.

  4. Ahinadab the son of Iddo, in Mahanaim;

  3. Shimei the son of Ela, in Benjamin;
  4. Geber the son of Uri, in the land of Gilead, the country of Sihon king of the Amorites and of Og king of Bashan; and he was the only deputy who was in the land.
  5. Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand that is on the seashore in abundance; they were eating and drinking and rejoicing.

  3. Shimei the son of Elah, in Benjamin:

  5. Judah and Israel were many, as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking, and making merry.
  1. Now Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the River to the land of the Philistines and to the border of Egypt; they brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.
  2. Solomon's provision for one day was thirty kors of fine flour and sixty kors of meal,
  3. ten fat oxen, twenty pasture-fed oxen, a hundred sheep besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fattened fowl.
  4. For he had dominion over everything west of the River, from Tiphsah even to Gaza, over all the kings west of the River; and he had peace on all sides around about him.
  5. So Judah and Israel lived in safety, every man under his vine and his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.
  1. And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life.
  2. And Solomon's provision for one day was thirty measures of fine flour, and threescore measures of meal,
  3. Ten fat oxen, and twenty oxen out of the pastures, and an hundred sheep, beside harts, and roebucks, and fallowdeer, and fatted fowl.
  4. For he had dominion over all the region on this side the river, from Tiphsah even to Azzah, over all the kings on this side the river: and he had peace on all sides round about him.
  5. And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.
  1. Solomon had 40,000 stalls of horses for his chariots, and 12,000 horsemen.

  5. Solomon's wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the sons of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.
  1. And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.

  4. And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.
  5. And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt.
  1. For he was wiser than all men, than Ethan the Ezrahite, Heman, Calcol and Darda, the sons of Mahol; and his fame was known in all the surrounding nations.
  2. He also spoke 3,000 proverbs, and his songs were 1,005.
  3. He spoke of trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon even to the hyssop that grows on the wall; he spoke also of animals and birds and creeping things and fish.
  4. Men came from all peoples to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom.
  1. For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about.
  2. And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five.
  3. And he spake of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes.
  4. And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom.
