  1. Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
  2. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance,
  3. but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior;
  4. because it is written, "YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY."
  5. If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one's work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on earth;
  1. Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
  2. As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
  3. But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
  4. Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
  5. And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:
  1. knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
  2. but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
  3. For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you
  4. who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
  5. Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart,
  1. Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
  2. But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
  3. Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
  4. Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
  5. Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
  1. for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.
  2. For, "ALL FLESH IS LIKE GRASS, AND ALL ITS GLORY LIKE THE FLOWER OF GRASS. THE GRASS WITHERS, AND THE FLOWER FALLS OFF,
  3. BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER " And this is the word which was preached to you.
  1. Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
  2. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
  3. But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

  1. Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander,
  2. like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation,
  3. if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.
  4. And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God,
  5. you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
  1. Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, all evil speakings,
  2. As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
  3. If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
  4. To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
  5. Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
  1. For this is contained in Scripture: "BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHOICE STONE, A PRECIOUS CORNER stone, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED."
  2. This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, "THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE VERY CORNER stone,"
  3. and, "A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE"; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed.
  4. But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
  5. for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY.
  1. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
  2. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
  3. And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
  4. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
  5. Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
