  ¸Þ¶Ñ±â Àç¾Ó(1:1-1:20)

  1. The word of the LORD that came to Joel, the son of Pethuel:
  2. Hear this, O elders, And listen, all inhabitants of the land Has anything like this happened in your days Or in your fathers' days?
  3. Tell your sons about it, And let your sons tell their sons, And their sons the next generation.
  4. What the gnawing locust has left, the swarming locust has eaten; And what the swarming locust has left, the creeping locust has eaten; And what the creeping locust has left, the stripping locust has eaten.
  5. Awake, drunkards, and weep; And wail, all you wine drinkers, On account of the sweet wine That is cut off from your mouth.
  1. The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.
  2. Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?
  3. Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.
  4. That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.
  5. Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.
  1. For a nation has invaded my land, Mighty and without number; Its teeth are the teeth of a lion, And it has the fangs of a lioness.
  2. It has made my vine a waste And my fig tree splinters. It has stripped them bare and cast them away; Their branches have become white.
  3. Wail like a virgin girded with sackcloth For the bridegroom of her youth.
  4. The grain offering and the drink offering are cut off From the house of the LORD The priests mourn, The ministers of the LORD.
  5. The field is ruined, The land mourns; For the grain is ruined, The new wine dries up, Fresh oil fails.
  1. For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.
  2. He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.
  3. Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
  4. The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD's ministers, mourn.
  5. The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.
  1. Be ashamed, O farmers, Wail, O vinedressers, For the wheat and the barley; Because the harvest of the field is destroyed.
  2. The vine dries up And the fig tree fails; The pomegranate, the palm also, and the apple tree, All the trees of the field dry up Indeed, rejoicing dries up From the sons of men.
  3. Gird yourselves with sackcloth And lament, O priests; Wail, O ministers of the altar! Come, spend the night in sackcloth O ministers of my God, For the grain offering and the drink offering Are withheld from the house of your God.
  4. Consecrate a fast, Proclaim a solemn assembly; Gather the elders And all the inhabitants of the land To the house of the LORD your God, And cry out to the LORD.
  5. Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is near, And it will come as destruction from the Almighty.
  1. Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.
  2. The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.
  3. Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.
  4. Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,
  5. Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
  1. Has not food been cut off before our eyes, Gladness and joy from the house of our God?
  2. The seeds shrivel under their clods; The storehouses are desolate, The barns are torn down, For the grain is dried up.
  3. How the beasts groan! The herds of cattle wander aimlessly Because there is no pasture for them; Even the flocks of sheep suffer.
  4. To You, O LORD, I cry; For fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness And the flame has burned up all the trees of the field.
  5. Even the beasts of the field pant for You; For the water brooks are dried up And fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
  1. Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
  2. The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.
  3. How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.
  4. O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.
  5. The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

  1. Blow a trumpet in Zion, And sound an alarm on My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, For the day of the LORD is coming; Surely it is near,
  2. A day of darkness and gloom, A day of clouds and thick darkness As the dawn is spread over the mountains, So there is a great and mighty people; There has never been anything like it, Nor will there be again after it To the years of many generations.
  3. A fire consumes before them And behind them a flame burns The land is like the garden of Eden before them But a desolate wilderness behind them, And nothing at all escapes them.
  4. Their appearance is like the appearance of horses; And like war horses, so they run.
  5. With a noise as of chariots They leap on the tops of the mountains, Like the crackling of a flame of fire consuming the stubble, Like a mighty people arranged for battle.
  1. Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;
  2. A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.
  3. A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.
  4. The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run.
  5. Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.
  1. Before them the people are in anguish; All faces turn pale.
  2. They run like mighty men, They climb the wall like soldiers; And they each march in line, Nor do they deviate from their paths.
  3. They do not crowd each other, They march everyone in his path; When they burst through the defenses, They do not break ranks.
  4. They rush on the city, They run on the wall; They climb into the houses, They enter through the windows like a thief.
  5. Before them the earth quakes, The heavens tremble, The sun and the moon grow dark And the stars lose their brightness.
  1. Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.
  2. They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks:
  3. Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one in his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded.
  4. They shall run to and fro in the city; they shall run upon the wall, they shall climb up upon the houses; they shall enter in at the windows like a thief.
  5. The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:
  1. The LORD utters His voice before His army; Surely His camp is very great, For strong is he who carries out His word The day of the LORD is indeed great and very awesome, And who can endure it?
  2. "Yet even now," declares the LORD, "Return to Me with all your heart, And with fasting, weeping and mourning;
  3. And rend your heart and not your garments " Now return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and compassionate, Slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness And relenting of evil.
  4. Who knows whether He will not turn and relent And leave a blessing behind Him, Even a grain offering and a drink offering For the LORD your God?
  5. Blow a trumpet in Zion, Consecrate a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly,
  1. And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?
  2. Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:
  3. And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.
  4. Who knoweth if he will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him; even a meat offering and a drink offering unto the LORD your God?
  5. Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:
  1. Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, Assemble the elders, Gather the children and the nursing infants Let the bridegroom come out of his room And the bride out of her bridal chamber.
  2. Let the priests, the LORD'S ministers, Weep between the porch and the altar, And let them say, "Spare Your people, O LORD, And do not make Your inheritance a reproach, A byword among the nations Why should they among the peoples say, 'Where is their God?'"
  1. Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.
  2. Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?
