- Pilate summoned the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
- and said to them, "You brought this man to me as one who incites the people to rebellion, and behold, having examined Him before you, I have found no guilt in this man regarding the charges which you make against Him.
- "No, nor has Herod, for he sent Him back to us; and behold, nothing deserving death has been done by Him.
- "Therefore I will punish Him and release Him."
- [Now he was obliged to release to them at the feast one prisoner.]

- ピラト は 祭司長たちと 指導者たちと 民衆とを 呼び 集め，
- こう 言った． 「あなたがたは， この 人を， 民衆を 惑わす 者として， 私のところに 連れて 來たけれども， 私があなたがたの 前で 取り 調べたところ， あなたがたが 訴えているような 罪は 別に 何も 見つかりません．
- ヘロデ とても 同じです． 彼は 私たちにこの 人を 送り 返しました． 見なさい． この 人は， 死罪に 當たることは， 何一つしていません．
- だから 私は， 懲らしめたうえで， 釋放します． 」

- But they cried out all together, saying, "Away with this man, and release for us Barabbas!"
- (He was one who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection made in the city, and for murder.)
- Pilate, wanting to release Jesus, addressed them again,
- but they kept on calling out, saying, "Crucify, crucify Him!"
- And he said to them the third time, "Why, what evil has this man done? I have found in Him no guilt demanding death; therefore I will punish Him and release Him."

- しかし 彼らは， 聲をそろえて 叫んだ． 「この 人を 除け． バラバ を 釋放しろ． 」
- バラバ とは， 都に 起こった 暴動と 人殺しのかどで， 牢にはいっていた 者である．
- ピラト は， イエス を 釋放しようと 思って， 彼らに， もう 一度呼びかけた．
- しかし， 彼らは 叫び 續けて， 「十字架だ． 十字架につけろ． 」と 言った．
- しかし ピラト は 三度目に 彼らにこう 言った． 「あの 人がどんな 惡いことをしたというのか． あの 人には， 死に 當たる 罪は， 何も 見つかりません． だから 私は， 懲らしめたうえで， 釋放します． 」

- But they were insistent, with loud voices asking that He be crucified. And their voices began to prevail.
- And Pilate pronounced sentence that their demand be granted.
- And he released the man they were asking for who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, but he delivered Jesus to their will.
- When they led Him away, they seized a man, Simon of Cyrene, coming in from the country, and placed on him the cross to carry behind Jesus.
- And following Him was a large crowd of the people, and of women who were mourning and lamenting Him.

- ところが， 彼らはあくまで 主張し 續け， 十字架につけるよう 大聲で 要求した． そしてついにその 聲が 勝った．
- ピラト は， 彼らの 要求どおりにすることを 宣告した．
- すなわち， 暴動と 人殺しのかどで 牢にはいっていた 男を 願いどおりに 釋放し， イエス を 彼らに 引き 渡して 好きなようにさせた．
- 彼らは， イエス を 引いて 行く 途中， いなかから 出て 來た シモン という クレネ 人をつかまえ， この 人に 十字架を 負わせて イエス のうしろから 運ばせた．
- 大ぜいの 民衆や イエス のことを 嘆き 悲しむ 女たちの 群れが， イエス のあとについて 行った．

- But Jesus turning to them said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, stop weeping for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
- "For behold, the days are coming when they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.'
- "Then they will begin TO SAY TO THE MOUNTAINS, 'FALL ON US,' AND TO THE HILLS, 'COVER US.'
- "For if they do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?"
- Two others also, who were criminals, were being led away to be put to death with Him.

- しかし イエス は， 女たちのほうに 向いて， こう 言われた． 「エルサレム の 娘たち． わたしのことで 泣いてはいけない． むしろ 自分自身と， 自分の 子どもたちのことのために 泣きなさい．
- なぜなら 人¿が， 『不妊の 女， 子を 産んだことのない 胎， 飮ませたことのない 乳房は， 幸いだ． 』と 言う 日が 來るのですから．
- そのとき， 人¿は 山に 向かって， 『われわれの 上に 倒れかかってくれ． 』と 言い， 丘に 向かって， 『われわれをおおってくれ． 』と 言い 始めます．
- 彼らが 生木にこのようなことをするのなら， 枯れ 木には， いったい， 何が 起こるでしょう． 」
- ほかにもふたりの 犯罪人が， イエス とともに 死刑にされるために， 引かれて 行った．

- When they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.
- But Jesus was saying, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing " And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves.
- And the people stood by, looking on. And even the rulers were sneering at Him, saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, His Chosen One."
- The soldiers also mocked Him, coming up to Him, offering Him sour wine,
- and saying, "If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!"

- 「どくろ 」と 呼ばれている 所に 來ると， そこで 彼らは， イエス と 犯罪人とを 十字架につけた． 犯罪人のひとりは 右に， ひとりは 左に．
- そのとき， イエス はこう 言われた． 「父よ． 彼らをお 赦しください． 彼らは， 何をしているのか 自分でわからないのです． 」彼らは， くじを 引いて， イエス の 着物を 分けた．
- 民衆はそばに 立ってながめていた． 指導者たちもあざ 笑って 言った． 「あれは 他人を 救った． もし， 神の キリスト で， 選ばれた 者なら， 自分を 救ってみろ． 」
- 兵士たちも イエス をあざけり， そばに 寄って 來て， 酸いぶどう 酒を 差し 出し，
- 「ユダヤ 人の 王なら， 自分を 救え． 」と 言った．

- Now there was also an inscription above Him, "THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS."
- One of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying, "Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!"
- But the other answered, and rebuking him said, "Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?
- "And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong."
- And he was saying, "Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!"

- 「これは ユダヤ 人の 王． 」と 書いた 札も イエス の 頭上に 揭げてあった．
- 十字架にかけられていた 犯罪人のひとりは イエス に 惡口を 言い， 「あなたは キリスト ではないか． 自分と 私たちを 救え． 」と 言った．
- ところが， もうひとりのほうが 答えて， 彼をたしなめて 言った． 「おまえは 神をも 恐れないのか． おまえも 同じ 刑罰を 受けているではないか．
- われわれは， 自分のしたことの 報いを 受けているのだからあたりまえだ． だがこの 方は， 惡いことは 何もしなかったのだ． 」
- そして 言った． 「イエス さま． あなたの 御國の 位にお 着きになるときには， 私を 思い 出してください． 」

- And He said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise."

- イエス は， 彼に 言われた． 「まことに， あなたに 告げます． あなたはきょう， わたしとともに パラダイス にいます． 」
