- For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
- For it is written, "I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE."
- Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
- For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.
- For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom;

- 十字架のことばは， 滅びに 至る 人¿には 愚かであっても， 救いを 受ける 私たちには， 神の 力です．
- それは， こう 書いてあるからです． 「わたしは 知惠ある 者の 知惠を 滅ぼし， 賢い 者の 賢さをむなしくする． 」
- 知者はどこにいるのですか． 學者はどこにいるのですか． この 世の 議論家はどこにいるのですか． 神は， この 世の 知惠を 愚かなものにされたではありませんか．
- 事實， この 世が 自分の 知惠によって 神を 知ることがないのは， 神の 知惠によるのです． それゆえ， 神はみこころによって， 宣敎のことばの 愚かさを 通して， 信じる 者を 救おうと 定められたのです．
- ユダヤ 人はしるしを 要求し， ギリシヤ 人は 知惠を 追求します．

- but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness,
- but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
- Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
- For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble;
- but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong,

- しかし， 私たちは 十字架につけられた キリスト を 宣べ 傳えるのです． ユダヤ 人にとってはつまずき， 異邦人にとっては 愚かでしょうが，
- しかし， ユダヤ 人であっても ギリシヤ 人であっても， 召された 者にとっては， キリスト は 神の 力， 神の 知惠なのです．
- なぜなら， 神の 愚かさは 人よりも 賢く， 神の 弱さは 人よりも 强いからです．
- 兄弟たち， あなたがたの 召しのことを 考えてごらんなさい． この 世の 知者は 多くはなく， 權力者も 多くはなく， 身分の 高い 者も 多くはありません．
- しかし 神は， 知惠ある 者をはずかしめるために， この 世の 愚かな 者を 選び， 强い 者をはずかしめるために， この 世の 弱い 者を 選ばれたのです．

- and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are,
- so that no man may boast before God.
- But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption,
- so that, just as it is written, "LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD."

- また， この 世の 取るに 足りない 者や 見下されている 者を， 神は 選ばれました． すなわち， 有るものをない 者のようにするため， 無に 等しいものを 選ばれたのです．
- これは， 神の 御前でだれをも 誇らせないためです．
- しかしあなたがたは， 神によって キリスト · イエス のうちにあるのです． キリスト は， 私たちにとって， 神の 知惠となり， また， 義と 聖めと， ·いとになられました．
- まさしく， 「誇る 者は 主にあって 誇れ． 」と 書かれているとおりになるためです．
