- Now there was a man at Caesarea named Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian cohort,
- a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, and gave many alms to the Jewish people and prayed to God continually.
- About the ninth hour of the day he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God who had just come in and said to him, "Cornelius!"
- And fixing his gaze on him and being much alarmed, he said, "What is it, Lord?" And he said to him, "Your prayers and alms have ascended as a memorial before God.
- "Now dispatch some men to Joppa and send for a man named Simon, who is also called Peter;

- さて， カイザリヤ に コルネリオ という 名の 人がいた． イタリヤ 隊と 呼ばれた 部隊の 百卒長で，
- 信心深く， 家族一同と 共に 神を 敬い， 民に 數¿の 施しをなし， 絶えず 神に 祈をしていた．
- ある 日の 午後三時ごろ， 神の 使が 彼のところにきて， 「コルネリオ よ 」と 呼ぶのを， 幻ではっきり 見た．
- 彼は 御使を 見つめていたが， 恐ろしくなって， 「主よ， なんでございますか 」と 言った． すると 御使が 言った， 「あなたの 祈や 施しは 神のみ 前にとどいて， おぼえられている．
- ついては 今， ヨッパ に 人をやって， ペテロ と 呼ばれる シモン という 人を 招きなさい．

- he is staying with a tanner named Simon, whose house is by the sea."
- When the angel who was speaking to him had left, he summoned two of his servants and a devout soldier of those who were his personal attendants,
- and after he had explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.
- On the next day, as they were on their way and approaching the city, Peter went up on the housetop about the sixth hour to pray.
- But he became hungry and was desiring to eat; but while they were making preparations, he fell into a trance;

- この 人は， 海べに 家をもつ 皮なめし シモン という 者の 客となっている 」．
- このお 告げをした 御使が 立ち 去ったのち， コルネリオ は， 僕ふたりと， 部下の 中で 信心深い 兵卒ひとりとを 呼び，
- いっさいの 事を 說明して 聞かせ， ヨッパ へ 送り 出した．
- 翌日， この 三人が 旅をつづけて 町の 近くにきたころ， ペテロ は 祈をするため 屋上にのぼった． 時は ¿の 十二時ごろであった．
- 彼は 空腹をおぼえて， 何か 食べたいと 思った． そして， 人¿が 食事の 用意をしている 間に， 夢心地になった．

- and he saw the sky opened up, and an object like a great sheet coming down, lowered by four corners to the ground,
- and there were in it all kinds of four-footed animals and crawling creatures of the earth and birds of the air.
- A voice came to him, "Get up, Peter, kill and eat!"
- But Peter said, "By no means, Lord, for I have never eaten anything unholy and unclean."
- Again a voice came to him a second time, "What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy."

- すると， 天が 開け， 大きな 布のような 入れ 物が， 四すみをつるされて， 地上に 降りて 來るのを 見た．
- その 中には， 地上の 四つ 足や 這うもの， また 空の 鳥など， 各種の 生きものがはいっていた．
- そして 聲が 彼に 聞えてきた， 「ペテロ よ． 立って， それらをほふって 食べなさい 」．
- ペテロ は 言った， 「主よ， それはできません． わたしは 今までに， 淸くないもの， 汚れたものは， 何一つ 食べたことがありません 」．
- すると， 聲が 二度目にかかってきた， 「神がきよめたものを， 淸くないなどと 言ってはならない 」．

- This happened three times, and immediately the object was taken up into the sky.
- Now while Peter was greatly perplexed in mind as to what the vision which he had seen might be, behold, the men who had been sent by Cornelius, having asked directions for Simon's house, appeared at the gate;
- and calling out, they were asking whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was staying there.
- While Peter was reflecting on the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Behold, three men are looking for you.
- "But get up, go downstairs and accompany them without misgivings, for I have sent them Myself."

- こんなことが 三度もあってから， その 入れ 物はすぐ 天に 引き 上げられた．
- ペテロ が， いま 見た 幻はなんの 事だろうかと， ひとり 思案にくれていると， ちょうどその 時， コルネリオ から 送られた 人たちが， シモン の 家を 尋ね 當てて， その 門口に 立っていた．
- そして 聲をかけて， 「ペテロ と 呼ばれる シモン というかたが， こちらにお 泊まりではございませんか 」と 尋ねた．
- ペテロ はなおも 幻について， 思いめぐらしていると， 御靈が 言った， 「ごらんなさい， 三人の 人たちが， あなたを 尋ねてきている．
- さあ， 立って 下に 降り， ためらわないで， 彼らと 一緖に 出かけるがよい． わたしが 彼らをよこしたのである 」．

- Peter went down to the men and said, "Behold, I am the one you are looking for; what is the reason for which you have come?"
- They said, "Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous and God-fearing man well spoken of by the entire nation of the Jews, was divinely directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and hear a message from you."
- So he invited them in and gave them lodging. And on the next day he got up and went away with them, and some of the brethren from Joppa accompanied him.

- そこで ペテロ は， その 人たちのところに 降りて 行って 言った， 「わたしがお 尋ねの ペテロ です． どんなご 用でおいでになったのですか 」．
- 彼らは 答えた， 「正しい 人で， 神を 敬い， ユダヤ の 全國民に 好感を 持たれている 百卒長 コルネリオ が， あなたを 家に 招いてお 話を 伺うようにとのお 告げを， 聖なる 御使から 受けましたので， 參りました 」．
- そこで， ペテロ は， 彼らを 迎えて 泊まらせた． 翌日， ペテロ は 立って， 彼らと 連れだって 出發した． ヨッパ の 兄弟たち 數人も 一緖に 行った．
