사사기 20:17-21:25

 베냐민 지파를 상대로 전쟁하던 이스라엘 연합군은 두 번 연속으로 패배했다. 그러나 하나님께 금식하고 제사드리며 하나님의 뜻을 구하여 응답받고 난 후 베냐민 지파를 섬멸할 수 있었다. 베냐민 자손들 중 용사 600명을 제외한 전원을 몰살시킨 연합군은 미스바 총회에 불참한 길르앗을 징계하였고, 길르앗과 실로 여인들을 취하여 베냐민 사람들의 아내를 삼게 함으로써 베냐민 지파의 멸절을 막았다.
  
  이스라엘과 베냐민의 전쟁(20:17-20:48)    
 
  1. Then the men of Israel besides Benjamin were numbered, 400,000 men who draw the sword; all these were men of war.
  2. Now the sons of Israel arose, went up to Bethel, and inquired of God and said, "Who shall go up first for us to battle against the sons of Benjamin?" Then the LORD said, "Judah shall go up first."
  3. So the sons of Israel arose in the morning and camped against Gibeah.
  4. The men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin, and the men of Israel arrayed for battle against them at Gibeah.
  5. Then the sons of Benjamin came out of Gibeah and felled to the ground on that day 22,000 men of Israel.
  1. 一方， イスラエル の 人も， ベニヤミン を 除いて 數を 調べると， 劍を 携えた 兵士四十万で， 彼らは 皆， 軍人であった．
  2. 彼らは 立ち 上がって ベテル に 上った． イスラエル の 人¿は 神に 問うて 言った． 「我¿のうち 誰が 最初に 上って 行って ベニヤミン と 戰うべきでしょうか． 」主は， 「ユダ が 最初だ 」と 言われた．
  3. 翌朝， イスラエル の 人¿は 行動を 起こし， ギブア に 對して 陣を 敷いた．
  4. イスラエル 人は ベニヤミン との 戰いに 出陣し， ギブア に 對して 戰鬪態勢に 入ったが，
  5. ベニヤミン の 人¿は ギブア から 出擊して， その 日， 二万二千人の イスラエル 兵を 地に 打ち 倒した．
  1. But the people, the men of Israel, encouraged themselves and arrayed for battle again in the place where they had arrayed themselves the first day.
  2. The sons of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until evening, and inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall we again draw near for battle against the sons of my brother Benjamin?" And the LORD said, "Go up against him."
  3. Then the sons of Israel came against the sons of Benjamin the second day.
  4. Benjamin went out against them from Gibeah the second day and felled to the ground again 18,000 men of the sons of Israel; all these drew the sword.
  5. Then all the sons of Israel and all the people went up and came to Bethel and wept; thus they remained there before the LORD and fasted that day until evening. And they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
  1. しかし， イスラエル 人の 部隊は 奮起し， 最初の 日に 戰鬪態勢に 入った 場所で， 態勢を 立て 直した．
  2. イスラエル の 人¿は 主の 御前に 上って， 夕方まで 泣き 續け， 主に 問うて 言った． 「兄弟 ベニヤミン と， 再び 戰いを 交えねばなりませんか． 」しかし， 主は 言われた． 「彼らに 向かって 攻め 上れ． 」
  3. 二日目も イスラエル の 人¿は ベニヤミン の 人¿に 向かって 進擊した．
  4. しかし， ベニヤミン は， 二日目にも ギブア から 出擊してそれを 迎え 擊ち， またも イスラエル の 人¿一万八千人を 地に 打ち 倒した． 彼らは 皆， 劍で 武裝した 者であった．
  5. イスラエル の 人¿は 皆， そのすべての 軍團と 共に ベテル に 上って 行き， 主の 御前に 座り ¿んで 泣いた． その 日， 彼らは 夕方まで 斷食し， 燒き 盡くす 獻げ 物と 和解の 獻げ 物を 主の 御前にささげた．
  1. The sons of Israel inquired of the LORD (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
  2. and Phinehas the son of Eleazar, Aaron's son, stood before it to minister in those days), saying, "Shall I yet again go out to battle against the sons of my brother Benjamin, or shall I cease?" And the LORD said, "Go up, for tomorrow I will deliver them into your hand."
  3. So Israel set men in ambush around Gibeah.
  4. The sons of Israel went up against the sons of Benjamin on the third day and arrayed themselves against Gibeah as at other times.
  5. The sons of Benjamin went out against the people and were drawn away from the city, and they began to strike and kill some of the people as at other times, on the highways, one of which goes up to Bethel and the other to Gibeah, and in the field, about thirty men of Israel.
  1. イスラエル の 人¿は 主に 問うた． ――當時， 神の 契約の 箱はそこにあり，
  2. また 當時， アロン の 孫で エルアザル の 子である ピネハス が 御前に 仕えていた ―― イスラエル の 人¿は 言った． 「兄弟 ベニヤミン との 戰いに， 再び 繰り 返して 出陣すべきでしょうか． それとも 控えるべきでしょうか． 」主は 言われた． 「攻め 上れ． 明日， わたしは 彼らをあなたの 手に 渡す． 」
  3. イスラエル は ギブア の 周圍に 伏兵を 配置した．
  4. 三日目も イスラエル の 人¿は ベニヤミン の 人¿に 向かって 攻め 上り， 前と 同じように ギブア に 對して 戰鬪態勢に 入った．
  5. ベニヤミン も， その 軍團を 迎え 擊とうとして 出て 來た． 彼らは 町から 遠くへおびき 出され， 一方は ベテル に， 他方は ギブア に 通じる 大路を 進んだ． 野で イスラエル の 部隊に 死傷者が 出始め， 約三十人が 倒れた．
  1. The sons of Benjamin said, "They are struck down before us, as at the first." But the sons of Israel said, "Let us flee that we may draw them away from the city to the highways."
  2. Then all the men of Israel arose from their place and arrayed themselves at Baal-tamar; and the men of Israel in ambush broke out of their place, even out of Maareh-geba.
  3. When ten thousand choice men from all Israel came against Gibeah, the battle became fierce; but Benjamin did not know that disaster was close to them.
  4. And the LORD struck Benjamin before Israel, so that the sons of Israel destroyed 25,100 men of Benjamin that day, all who draw the sword.
  5. So the sons of Benjamin saw that they were defeated. When the men of Israel gave ground to Benjamin because they relied on the men in ambush whom they had set against Gibeah,
  1. ベニヤミン の 人¿は， 「初戰と 同樣， 敵を 打ち 負かした 」と 思ったが， イスラエル の 人¿は， 「撤退して 敵を 町から 大路におびき 出そう 」と 謀っていた．
  2. イスラエル の 人¿は 皆， 自分の 持ち 場から 立ち 上がり， バアル · タマル で 戰鬪態勢に 入った． イスラエル の 伏兵も 自分の 持ち 場である ゲバ の 平原から 躍り 出た．
  3. 全 イスラエル のえり 拔きの 兵士一万人が ギブア に 向かって 進擊し， 激戰となった． ベニヤミン の 人¿は 自分たちに 不幸な 結末が 訪れるとは 思ってもみなかった．
  4. 主は イスラエル の 目の 前で ベニヤミン を 擊たれたので， イスラエル の 人¿が， その 日打ち 滅ぼした ベニヤミン の 兵は 二万五千百人に 上った． 彼らは 皆， 劍を 携える 者であった．
  5. ベニヤミン の 人¿は 敗北を 認めざるをえなかった． イスラエル 人は ギブア に 對して 配置した 伏兵を 信賴していたので， ベニヤミン に 戰場を 明け 渡した．
  1. the men in ambush hurried and rushed against Gibeah; the men in ambush also deployed and struck all the city with the edge of the sword.
  2. Now the appointed sign between the men of Israel and the men in ambush was that they would make a great cloud of smoke rise from the city.
  3. Then the men of Israel turned in the battle, and Benjamin began to strike and kill about thirty men of Israel, for they said, "Surely they are defeated before us, as in the first battle."
  4. But when the cloud began to rise from the city in a column of smoke, Benjamin looked behind them; and behold, the whole city was going up in smoke to heaven.
  5. Then the men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were terrified; for they saw that disaster was close to them.
  1. その 伏兵が ギブア を 急襲した． 伏兵は 突入し， 町をくまなく 劍をもって 擊った．
  2. イスラエル 人と 伏兵との 間に 打ち 合わせがあって， 町からのろしの 煙が 高¿と 揚がると，
  3. イスラエル 人は 戰線に 復歸することになっていた． ベニヤミン は， イスラエル 人に 死傷者が 出始め， 約三十人の 兵を 打ち 倒したとき， 「初戰と 同樣に， 敵を 打ち 負かした 」と 思ったが，
  4. 雲の 柱のようなのろしが 町から 揚がり 始め， ベニヤミン が 振り 返ると， 町全體が 火に 包まれ 天に 燃え 上がっていた．
  5. そこへ イスラエル 人が 引き 返して 來たので， ベニヤミン 人は， 自分たちに， 不幸な 結末が 訪れるのを 知って， うろたえた．
  1. Therefore, they turned their backs before the men of Israel toward the direction of the wilderness, but the battle overtook them while those who came out of the cities destroyed them in the midst of them.
  2. They surrounded Benjamin, pursued them without rest and trod them down opposite Gibeah toward the east.
  3. Thus 18,000 men of Benjamin fell; all these were valiant warriors.
  4. The rest turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, but they caught 5,000 of them on the highways and overtook them at Gidom and killed 2,000 of them.
  5. So all of Benjamin who fell that day were 25,000 men who draw the sword; all these were valiant warriors.
  1. 彼らは イスラエル 人を 見て 荒れ 野の 方に 向かったが， 戰いを 逃れることができなかった． 町¿から 出て 來た 人¿も 加わって 彼らを 屠り 去った．
  2. 彼らは ベニヤミン を 包圍し， 追いつめ， 手を 緩めず ギブア の 向こう 側， 東側まで 踏みにじった．
  3. ベニヤミン の 中で 一万八千人が 倒れたが， 彼らは 皆， 軍人であった．
  4. 他の 者は 荒れ 野の リモン の 岩場に 向かって 逃げたが， イスラエル 人は 大路でその 五千人を 討ち， 彼らが， 壞滅するまで 追い 迫り， 二千人を 打ち 殺した．
  5. この 日， ベニヤミン の 全戰死者は 劍を 携える 者二万五千人で， 彼らは 皆， 軍人であった．
  1. But 600 men turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, and they remained at the rock of Rimmon four months.
  2. The men of Israel then turned back against the sons of Benjamin and struck them with the edge of the sword, both the entire city with the cattle and all that they found; they also set on fire all the cities which they found.
  1. 六百人が 荒れ 野の リモン の 岩場に 逃げて， 四か 月， そこ リモン の 岩場にとどまった．
  2. 一方， イスラエル 人は ベニヤミン の 人¿のところに 戾って 來て， 町の 男たちから 家畜まで， 見つけしだい， 殘らず 彼らを 劍で 擊ち， どの 町にも 見つけしだい 火を 放った．
 
  베냐민을 위한 대책(21:1-21:25)    
 
  1. Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpah, saying, "None of us shall give his daughter to Benjamin in marriage."
  2. So the people came to Bethel and sat there before God until evening, and lifted up their voices and wept bitterly.
  3. They said, "Why, O LORD, God of Israel, has this come about in Israel, so that one tribe should be missing today in Israel?"
  4. It came about the next day that the people arose early and built an altar there and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.
  5. Then the sons of Israel said, "Who is there among all the tribes of Israel who did not come up in the assembly to the LORD?" For they had taken a great oath concerning him who did not come up to the LORD at Mizpah, saying, "He shall surely be put to death."
  1. イスラエル 人は ミツパ において， 「我¿はだれも 自分の 娘を ベニヤミン に 嫁として 與えないことにする 」と 誓った．
  2. 民は ベテル に 歸って， 夕方まで 神の 御前に 座り， 聲をあげて 泣き 叫んだ．
  3. 「イスラエル の 神， 主よ． なぜ イスラエル にこのようなことが 行われ， 今日 イスラエル から 一つの 部族が 欠けることになったのですか． 」
  4. 翌日， 朝早く 民は 起きて， そこに 祭壇を 築き， 燒き 盡くす 獻げ 物と 和解の 獻げ 物をささげた．
  5. イスラエル の 人¿は 言った． 「誰か イスラエル の 全部族の 中で， 主の 御前における 集會に 上って 來なかった 者がいるか． 」というのは， ミツパ に 上って 主の 御前に 出なかった 者に 對しては， 「必ず 死なねばならない 」との， 堅い 誓いがなされていたからである．
  1. And the sons of Israel were sorry for their brother Benjamin and said, "One tribe is cut off from Israel today.
  2. "What shall we do for wives for those who are left, since we have sworn by the LORD not to give them any of our daughters in marriage?"
  3. And they said, "What one is there of the tribes of Israel who did not come up to the LORD at Mizpah?" And behold, no one had come to the camp from Jabesh-gilead to the assembly.
  4. For when the people were numbered, behold, not one of the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead was there.
  5. And the congregation sent 12,000 of the valiant warriors there, and commanded them, saying, "Go and strike the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the little ones.
  1. イスラエル の 人¿は 兄弟 ベニヤミン のことを 悔やみ， 「今日 イスラエル の 中から 一つの 部族が 切り 捨てられた．
  2. その 生き 殘りの 者たちに 妻を 與えるにはどうすればいいだろう． わたしたちは， 彼らには 娘を 嫁がせないと 主に 誓った 」と 言った．
  3. イスラエル の 人¿はそこで， 「イスラエル のどの 部族が ミツパ に 上って， 主の 御前に 出なかったのだろうか 」と 尋ねた． すると， ギレアド の ヤベシュ からはだれ 一人この 陣營に 來ることなく， 集會に 出ていなかった．
  4. 民の 數が 調べられたとき， ギレアド の ヤベシュ の 住民は 一人もそこにいなかったことが 分かった．
  5. 共同體は 一万二千人の 兵を 派遣することにし， 彼らにこう 命じた． 「行って， ギレアド の ヤベシュ の 住民を 女や 子供に 至るまで 劍にかけよ．
  1. "This is the thing that you shall do: you shall utterly destroy every man and every woman who has lain with a man."
  2. And they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead 400 young virgins who had not known a man by lying with him; and they brought them to the camp at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.
  3. Then the whole congregation sent word and spoke to the sons of Benjamin who were at the rock of Rimmon, and proclaimed peace to them.
  4. Benjamin returned at that time, and they gave them the women whom they had kept alive from the women of Jabesh-gilead; yet they were not enough for them.
  5. And the people were sorry for Benjamin because the LORD had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.
  1. これがあなたたちのなすべきことである． 男はもとより， 男と 寢たことのある 女もすべて 滅ぼし 盡くさなければならない． 」
  2. 彼らはこうして， ギレアド の ヤベシュ の 住民の 中に 男と 寢たことのない 處女の 娘四百人を 見いだし， カナン の 地にある シロ の 陣營に 連れ 歸った．
  3. 全共同體は， リモン の 岩場にいる ベニヤミン の 人¿に 使者を 送って 和解を 呼びかけた．
  4. ベニヤミン がこのとき 歸って 來たので， 彼らは ギレアド の ヤベシュ の 女たちの 中で 生かしておいた 娘たちを ベニヤミン の 人¿に 與えた． しかし， まだ 足りなかった．
  5. 民は ベニヤミン のことを 悔やんだ． 主が イスラエル 諸部族の 間を 引き 裂かれたからである．
  1. Then the elders of the congregation said, "What shall we do for wives for those who are left, since the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?"
  2. They said, "There must be an inheritance for the survivors of Benjamin, so that a tribe will not be blotted out from Israel.
  3. "But we cannot give them wives of our daughters." For the sons of Israel had sworn, saying, "Cursed is he who gives a wife to Benjamin."
  4. So they said, "Behold, there is a feast of the LORD from year to year in Shiloh, which is on the north side of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goes up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south side of Lebonah."
  5. And they commanded the sons of Benjamin, saying, "Go and lie in wait in the vineyards,
  1. 共同體の 長老たちは 言った． 「生き 殘った 者に 妻を 與えるにはどうすればいいだろう． ベニヤミン の 女は 絶えてしまった． 」
  2. 彼らはまた 言った． 「ベニヤミン に 生き 殘る 者を 得させ， イスラエル から 一つの 部族も 失われないようにしなければならない．
  3. だが， わたしたちは， 娘を 彼らの 嫁にやるわけにはいかない． イスラエル の 人¿は， 『ベニヤミン に 嫁を 與える 者は 呪われる 』と 誓った． 」
  4. 彼らは 更に 言った． 「そうだ． 年ごとに シロ で 主の 祭りが 行われる． 」―― シロ の 町は ベテル の 北側， ベテル から シケム に 通じる 大路の 東側， レボナ の 南側にあった．
  5. そこで 彼らは ベニヤミン の 人¿にこう 言い 渡した． 「ぶどう 畑に 行って， 待ち 伏せし，
  1. and watch; and behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to take part in the dances, then you shall come out of the vineyards and each of you shall catch his wife from the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.
  2. "It shall come about, when their fathers or their brothers come to complain to us, that we shall say to them, 'Give them to us voluntarily, because we did not take for each man of Benjamin a wife in battle, nor did you give them to them, else you would now be guilty.'"
  3. The sons of Benjamin did so, and took wives according to their number from those who danced, whom they carried away. And they went and returned to their inheritance and rebuilt the cities and lived in them.
  4. The sons of Israel departed from there at that time, every man to his tribe and family, and each one of them went out from there to his inheritance.
  5. In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.
  1. シロ の 娘がそろって 踊りに 出て 來るのが 見えたら， ぶどう 畑から 出て 行って， シロ の 娘の 中からそれぞれ 妻にしようとする 者を 捕まえ， ベニヤミン の 地に 歸りなさい．
  2. もし 彼女らの 父や 兄がわたしたちに 文句を 言いに 來たら， こう 言おう． 『我¿に 免じて 憐れみをかけてやってほしい． 我¿は 戰爭の 間それぞれ 妻を 迎えることができなかったし， あなたたちも 彼らに 娘を 與えることができなかった． 與えていたら， あなたたちは 罪に 問われたはずだ 』と． 」
  3. ベニヤミン の 人¿はそのようにした． 彼らは 踊っている 女たちを 奪い， その 中から 自分たちの 數だけ 連れ 去って， 自分の 嗣業の 地に 歸り， 町を 築き， そこに 住んだ．
  4. イスラエル の 人¿もそのときそこを 去り， それぞれ 自分の 部族， 自分の 氏族のもとに 歸って 行った． そこからそれぞれ 自分の 嗣業の 地に 向かって 出て 行った．
  5. そのころ， イスラエル には 王がなく， それぞれ 自分の 目に 正しいとすることを 行っていた．
