- So when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I love You " He said to him, "Tend My lambs."
- He said to him again a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I love You." He said to him, "Shepherd My sheep."
- He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me?" Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, "Do you love Me?" And he said to Him, "Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You " Jesus said to him, "Tend My sheep.
- "Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to gird yourself and walk wherever you wished; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and someone else will gird you, and bring you where you do not wish to go."
- Now this He said, signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God And when He had spoken this, He said to him, "Follow Me!"

- 食事が 終わると， イエス は シモン · ペトロ に， 「ヨハネ の 子 シモン ， この 人たち 以上にわたしを 愛しているか 」と 言われた． ペトロ が， 「はい， 主よ， わたしがあなたを 愛していることは， あなたがご 存じです 」と 言うと， イエス は， 「わたしの 小羊を 飼いなさい 」と 言われた．
- 二度目に イエス は 言われた． 「ヨハネ の 子 シモン ， わたしを 愛しているか． 」 ペトロ が， 「はい， 主よ， わたしがあなたを 愛していることは， あなたがご 存じです 」と 言うと， イエス は， 「わたしの 羊の 世話をしなさい 」と 言われた．
- 三度目に イエス は 言われた． 「ヨハネ の 子 シモン ， わたしを 愛しているか． 」 ペトロ は， イエス が 三度目も， 「わたしを 愛しているか 」と 言われたので， 悲しくなった． そして 言った． 「主よ， あなたは 何もかもご 存じです． わたしがあなたを 愛していることを， あなたはよく 知っておられます． 」 イエス は 言われた． 「わたしの 羊を 飼いなさい．
- はっきり 言っておく． あなたは， 若いときは， 自分で 帶を 締めて， 行きたいところへ 行っていた． しかし， 年をとると， 兩手を 伸ばして， 他の 人に 帶を 締められ， 行きたくないところへ 連れて 行かれる． 」
- ペトロ がどのような 死に 方で， 神の 榮光を 現すようになるかを 示そうとして， イエス はこう 言われたのである． このように 話してから， ペトロ に， 「わたしに 從いなさい 」と 言われた．

- Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them; the one who also had leaned back on His bosom at the supper and said, "Lord, who is the one who betrays You?"
- So Peter seeing him said to Jesus, "Lord, and what about this man?"
- Jesus said to him, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!"
- Therefore this saying went out among the brethren that that disciple would not die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but only, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you?"
- This is the disciple who is testifying to these things and wrote these things, and we know that his testimony is true.

- ペトロ が 振り 向くと， イエス の 愛しておられた 弟子がついて 來るのが 見えた． この 弟子は， あの 夕食のとき， イエス の 胸もとに 寄りかかったまま， 「主よ， 裏切るのはだれですか 」と 言った 人である．
- ペトロ は 彼を 見て， 「主よ， この 人はどうなるのでしょうか 」と 言った．
- イエス は 言われた． 「わたしの 來るときまで 彼が 生きていることを， わたしが 望んだとしても， あなたに 何の 關係があるか． あなたは， わたしに 從いなさい． 」
- それで， この 弟子は 死なないといううわさが 兄弟たちの 間に 廣まった． しかし， イエス は， 彼は 死なないと 言われたのではない． ただ， 「わたしの 來るときまで 彼が 生きていることを， わたしが 望んだとしても， あなたに 何の 關係があるか 」と 言われたのである．
- これらのことについて 證しをし， それを 書いたのは， この 弟子である． わたしたちは， 彼の 證しが 眞實であることを 知っている．

- And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.

- イエス のなさったことは， このほかにも， まだたくさんある． わたしは 思う． その 一つ 一つを 書くならば， 世界もその 書かれた 書物を 收めきれないであろう．
