- For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea;
- and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
- and all ate the same spiritual food;
- and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ.
- Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness.

- 兄弟たち， 次のことはぜひ 知っておいてほしい． わたしたちの 先祖は 皆， 雲の 下におり， 皆， 海を 通り 拔け，
- 皆， 雲の 中， 海の 中で， モ ― セ に 屬するものとなる 洗禮を 授けられ，
- 皆， 同じ 靈的な 食物を 食べ，
- 皆が 同じ 靈的な 飮み 物を 飮みました． 彼らが 飮んだのは， 自分たちに 離れずについて 來た 靈的な 岩からでしたが， この 岩こそ キリスト だったのです．
- しかし， 彼らの 大部分は 神の 御心に 適わず， 荒れ 野で 滅ぼされてしまいました．

- Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as they also craved.
- Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written, "THE PEOPLE SAT DOWN TO EAT AND DRINK, AND STOOD UP TO PLAY."
- Nor let us act immorally, as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day.
- Nor let us try the Lord, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the serpents.
- Nor grumble, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

- これらの 出來事は， わたしたちを 戒める 前例として 起こったのです． 彼らが 惡をむさぼったように， わたしたちが 惡をむさぼることのないために．
- 彼らの 中のある 者がしたように， 偶像を 禮拜してはいけない． 「民は 座って 飮み 食いし， 立って 踊り 狂った 」と 書いてあります．
- 彼らの 中のある 者がしたように， みだらなことをしないようにしよう． みだらなことをした 者は， 一日で 二万三千人倒れて 死にました．
- また， 彼らの 中のある 者がしたように， キリスト を 試みないようにしよう． 試みた 者は， 蛇にかまれて 滅びました．
- 彼らの 中には 不平を 言う 者がいたが， あなたがたはそのように 不平を 言ってはいけない． 不平を 言った 者は， 滅ぼす 者に 滅ぼされました．

- Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
- Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall.
- No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

- これらのことは 前例として 彼らに 起こったのです． それが 書き 傳えられているのは， 時の 終わりに 直面しているわたしたちに 警告するためなのです．
- だから， 立っていると 思う 者は， 倒れないように 氣をつけるがよい．
- あなたがたを 襲った 試練で， 人間として 耐えられないようなものはなかったはずです． 神は 眞實な 方です． あなたがたを 耐えられないような 試練に 遭わせることはなさらず， 試練と 共に， それに 耐えられるよう， 逃れる 道をも 備えていてくださいます．
