- Wisdom shouts in the street, She lifts her voice in the square;
- At the head of the noisy streets she cries out; At the entrance of the gates in the city she utters her sayings:
- "How long, O naive ones, will you love being simple-minded? And scoffers delight themselves in scoffing And fools hate knowledge?
- "Turn to my reproof, Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you.
- "Because I called and you refused, I stretched out my hand and no one paid attention;

- 知惠は 巷に 呼ばわり ／廣場に 聲をあげる．
- 雜踏の 街角で 呼びかけ ／城門の 脇の 通路で 語りかける．
- 「いつまで ／淺はかな 者は 淺はかであることに 愛着をもち ／不遜な 者は 不遜であることを 好み ／愚か 者は 知ることをいとうのか．
- 立ち 歸って， わたしの 懲らしめを 受け 入れるなら ／見よ， わたしの 靈をあなたたちに 注ぎ ／わたしの 言葉を 示そう．
- しかし， わたしが 呼びかけても 拒み ／手を 伸べても 意に 介せず

- And you neglected all my counsel And did not want my reproof;
- I will also laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your dread comes,
- When your dread comes like a storm And your calamity comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you.
- "Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently but they will not find me,
- Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the LORD.

- わたしの 勸めをことごとくなおざりにし ／懲らしめを 受け 入れないなら
- あなたたちが 災いに 遭うとき， わたしは 笑い ／恐怖に 襲われるとき， 嘲笑うであろう．
- 恐怖が 嵐のように 襲い ／災いがつむじ 風のように 起こり ／苦難と 苦惱があなたたちを 襲うとき． 」
- そのときになって ／彼らがわたしを 呼んでもわたしは 答えず ／搜し 求めても ／わたしを 見いだすことはできない．
- 彼らは 知ることをいとい ／主を 畏れることを 選ばず

- "They would not accept my counsel, They spurned all my reproof.
- "So they shall eat of the fruit of their own way And be satiated with their own devices.
- "For the waywardness of the naive will kill them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them.
- "But he who listens to me shall live securely And will be at ease from the dread of evil."

- わたしの 勸めに 從わず ／懲らしめをすべてないがしろにした．
- だから， 自分たちの 道が 結んだ 實を 食べ ／自分たちの 意見に 飽き 足りるがよい．
- 淺はかな 者は 座して 死に 至り ／愚か 者は 無爲の 內に 滅びる．
- わたしに 聞き 從う 人は 確かな 住まいを 得 ／災難を 恐れることなく 平穩に 暮らす．
