신명기

  본서는 가나안 땅과 마주한 모압 평지에서 40년 간의 광야 생활을 총결산하는 모세의 유언적 회고 형식의 3편의 설교이다. 본서는 구속과 자비로운 은혜를 베푸시는 하나님을 기억할 것과 하나님을 사랑하는 것이 곧 하나님의 계명을 지키는 것임을 강조하고 있다.

  첫번째 설교(1-4장)는 이스라엘 백성의 불순종으로 인한 방황의 역사 가운데 하나님께서 하신 일을 회고하고 있고, 두번째 설교(5-26장)는 이스라엘이 하나님께로부터 받은 율법인 십계명, 의식법, 민법, 기타 사회법에 대하여 언급하고 있다. 그리고 마지막 설교(27-34장)는 순종에 따르는 복과 불순종에 따르는 저주를 선포한 뒤, 생명과 복을 택하라고 권면하고 있다. 모세는 여호수아를 후계자로 세우고 이스라엘을 축복한 후, 비스가 산에 올라 가나안을 바라보며 임종한다.

 

 

신명기 1:1-1:46

 가나안에 들어가기 직전, 모압 땅에서 모세는 백성들에게 광야에서 일어났던 일들을 회고하며 율법을 환기시켰다. 모세는 가데스에서 가나안 입성을 위해 파견된 정탐꾼들의 부정적인 보고에 동요된 백성들이 원망함으로 가나안 땅에 들어가지 못하고 이에 동의하지 않은 여호수아와 갈렙, 그리고 당시 20세 미만이었던 사람들만이 40년 광야 생활 후에 들어갈 수 있게 되었음을 회고했다.
  
  언약과 여정 회고(1:1-1:46)    
 
  1. These are the words Moses spoke to all Israel in the desert east of the Jordan--that is, in the Arabah--opposite Suph, between Paran and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth and Dizahab.
  2. (It takes eleven days to go from Horeb to Kadesh Barnea by the Mount Seir road.)
  3. In the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses proclaimed to the Israelites all that the LORD had commanded him concerning them.
  4. This was after he had defeated Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, and at Edrei had defeated Og king of Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth.
  5. East of the Jordan in the territory of Moab, Moses began to expound this law, saying:
  1. 이는 모세가 요단 저편 숩 맞은편의 아라바 광야 곧 바란과 도벨과 라반과 하세롯과 디사합 사이에서 이스라엘 무리에게 선포한 말씀이니라
  2. 호렙산에서 세일산을 지나 가데스 바네아에까지 열 하룻길이었더라
  3. 제 사십년 십일월 그 달 초일일에 모세가 이스라엘 자손에게 여호와께서 그들을 위하여 자기에게 주신 명령을 다 고하였으니
  4. 때는 모세가 헤스본에 거하는 아모리 왕 시혼을 쳐 죽이고 에드레이에서 아스다롯에 거하는 바산 왕 옥을 쳐 죽인 후라
  5. 모세가 요단 저편 모압 땅에서 이 율법 설명하기를 시작하였더라 일렀으되
  1. The LORD our God said to us at Horeb, "You have stayed long enough at this mountain.
  2. Break camp and advance into the hill country of the Amorites; go to all the neighboring peoples in the Arabah, in the mountains, in the western foothills, in the Negev and along the coast, to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon, as far as the great river, the Euphrates.
  3. See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land that the LORD swore he would give to your fathers--to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob--and to their descendants after them."
  4. At that time I said to you, "You are too heavy a burden for me to carry alone.
  5. The LORD your God has increased your numbers so that today you are as many as the stars in the sky.
  1. 우리 하나님 여호와께서 호렙산에서 우리에게 말씀하여 이르시기를 너희가 이 산에 거한지 오래니
  2. 방향을 돌려 진행하여 아모리 족속의 산지로 가고 그 근지 곳곳으로 가고 아라바와 산지와 평지와 남방과 해변과 가나안 족속의 땅과 레바논과 큰 강 유브라데까지 가라 하셨나니
  3. 여호와께서 너희의 열조 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱에게 맹세하사 그들과 그 후손에게 주리라 하신 땅이 너희 앞에 있으니 들어가서 얻을찌니라
  4. 그 때에 내가 너희에게 말하여 이르기를 나는 홀로 너희 짐을 질 수 없도다
  5. 너희 하나님 여호와께서 너희를 번성케 하셨으므로 너희가 오늘날 하늘의 별 같이 많거니와
  1. May the LORD, the God of your fathers, increase you a thousand times and bless you as he has promised!
  2. But how can I bear your problems and your burdens and your disputes all by myself?
  3. Choose some wise, understanding and respected men from each of your tribes, and I will set them over you."
  4. You answered me, "What you propose to do is good."
  5. So I took the leading men of your tribes, wise and respected men, and appointed them to have authority over you--as commanders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens and as tribal officials.
  1. 너희 열조의 하나님 여호와께서 너희를 현재보다 천배나 많게 하시며 너희에게 허락하신 것과 같이 너희에게 복 주시기를 원하노라
  2. 그런즉 나 홀로 어찌 능히 너희의 괴로운 것과 너희의 무거운 짐과 너희의 다툼을 담당할 수 있으랴
  3. 너희의 각 지파에서 지혜와 지식이 있는 유명한 자를 택하라 내가 그들을 세워 너희 두령을 삼으리라 한즉
  4. 너희가 대답하여 이르기를 당신의 말씀대로 하는 것이 좋다 하기에
  5. 내가 너희 지파의 두령으로 지혜가 있는 유명한 자들을 취하여 너희의 어른을 삼되 곧 각 지파를 따라 천부장과 백부장과 오십부장과 십부장과 패장을 삼고
  1. And I charged your judges at that time: Hear the disputes between your brothers and judge fairly, whether the case is between brother Israelites or between one of them and an alien.
  2. Do not show partiality in judging; hear both small and great alike. Do not be afraid of any man, for judgment belongs to God. Bring me any case too hard for you, and I will hear it.
  3. And at that time I told you everything you were to do.
  4. Then, as the LORD our God commanded us, we set out from Horeb and went toward the hill country of the Amorites through all that vast and dreadful desert that you have seen, and so we reached Kadesh Barnea.
  5. Then I said to you, "You have reached the hill country of the Amorites, which the LORD our God is giving us.
  1. 내가 그 때에 너희 재판장들에게 명하여 이르기를 너희가 너희 형제 중에 송사를 들을 때에 양방간에 공정히 판결할 것이며 그들 중의 타국인에게도 그리 할것이라
  2. 재판은 하나님께 속한 것인즉 너희는 재판에 외모를 보지말고 귀천을 일반으로 듣고 사람의 낯을 두려워 말것이며 스스로 결단하기 어려운 일이거든 내게로 돌리라 내가 들으리라 하였고
  3. 내가 너희의 행할 모든 일을 그 때에 너희에게 다 명하였느니라
  4. 우리 하나님 여호와께서 우리에게 명하신대로 우리가 호렙산에서 발행하여 너희의 본바 크고 두려운 광야를 지나 아모리 족속의 산지 길로 가데스 바네아에 이른 때에
  5. 내가 너희에게 이르기를 우리 하나님 여호와께서 우리에게 주신 아모리 족속의 산지에 너희가 이르렀나니
  1. See, the LORD your God has given you the land. Go up and take possession of it as the LORD, the God of your fathers, told you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."
  2. Then all of you came to me and said, "Let us send men ahead to spy out the land for us and bring back a report about the route we are to take and the towns we will come to."
  3. The idea seemed good to me; so I selected twelve of you, one man from each tribe.
  4. They left and went up into the hill country, and came to the Valley of Eshcol and explored it.
  5. Taking with them some of the fruit of the land, they brought it down to us and reported, "It is a good land that the LORD our God is giving us."
  1. 너희 하나님 여호와께서 이 땅을 너희 앞에 두셨은즉 너희 열조의 하나님 여호와께서 너희에게 이르신대로 올라가서 얻으라 두려워 말라 주저하지 말라 한즉
  2. 너희가 다 내 앞으로 나아와 말하기를 우리가 사람을 우리 앞서 보내어 우리를 위하여 그 땅을 정탐하고 어느 길로 올라가야 할것과 어느 성읍으로 들어가야 할것을 우리에게 회보케 하자 하기에
  3. 내가 그 말을 선히 여겨 너희 중에서 매 지파에 한 사람씩 열 둘을 택하매
  4. 그들이 앞으로 가서 산지에 올라 에스골 골짜기에 이르러 그곳을 정탐하고
  5. 그 땅의 과실을 손에 가지고 우리에게로 돌아와서 우리에게 회보하여 이르되 우리의 하나님 여호와께서 우리에게 주시는 땅이 좋더라 하였느니라
  1. But you were unwilling to go up; you rebelled against the command of the LORD your God.
  2. You grumbled in your tents and said, "The LORD hates us; so he brought us out of Egypt to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us.
  3. Where can we go? Our brothers have made us lose heart. They say, 'The people are stronger and taller than we are; the cities are large, with walls up to the sky. We even saw the Anakites there.' "
  4. Then I said to you, "Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them.
  5. The LORD your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes,
  1. 그러나 너희가 올라가기를 즐겨 아니하고 너희 하나님 여호와의 명을 거역하여
  2. 장막 중에서 원망하여 이르기를 여호와께서 우리를 미워하시는고로 아모리 족속의 손에 붙여 멸하시려고 우리를 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 내셨도다
  3. 우리가 어디로 갈꼬 우리의 형제들이 우리로 낙심케 하여 말하기를 그 백성은 우리보다 장대하며 그 성읍은 크고 성곽은 하늘에 닿았으며 우리가 또 거기서 아낙 자손을 보았노라 하는도다 하기로
  4. 내가 너희에게 말하기를 그들을 무서워 말라 두려워하지 말라
  5. 너희 앞서 행하시는 너희 하나님 여호와께서 애굽에서 너희를 위하여 너희 목전에서 모든 일을 행하신것 같이 이제도 너희를 위하여 싸우실 것이며
  1. and in the desert. There you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place."
  2. In spite of this, you did not trust in the LORD your God,
  3. who went ahead of you on your journey, in fire by night and in a cloud by day, to search out places for you to camp and to show you the way you should go.
  4. When the LORD heard what you said, he was angry and solemnly swore:
  5. "Not a man of this evil generation shall see the good land I swore to give your forefathers,
  1. 광야에서도 너희가 당하였거니와 사람이 자기 아들을 안음 같이 너희 하나님 여호와께서 너희의 행로 중에 너희를 안으사 이곳까지 이르게 하셨느니라 하나
  2. 이 일에 너희가 너희 하나님 여호와를 믿지 아니하였도다
  3. 그는 너희 앞서 행하시며 장막 칠 곳을 찾으시고 밤에는 불로, 낮에는 구름으로 너희의 행할 길을 지시하신 자니라
  4. 여호와께서 너희의 말소리를 들으시고 노하사 맹세하여 가라사대
  5. 이 악한 세대 사람들 중에는 내가 그들의 열조에게 주기로 맹세한 좋은 땅을 볼 자가 하나도 없으리라
  1. except Caleb son of Jephunneh. He will see it, and I will give him and his descendants the land he set his feet on, because he followed the LORD wholeheartedly."
  2. Because of you the LORD became angry with me also and said, "You shall not enter it, either.
  3. But your assistant, Joshua son of Nun, will enter it. Encourage him, because he will lead Israel to inherit it.
  4. And the little ones that you said would be taken captive, your children who do not yet know good from bad--they will enter the land. I will give it to them and they will take possession of it.
  5. But as for you, turn around and set out toward the desert along the route to the Red Sea. "
  1. 오직 여분네의 아들 갈렙은 온전히 여호와를 순종하였은즉 그는 그것을 볼 것이요 그가 밟은 땅을 내가 그와 그의 자손에게 주리라 하시고
  2. 여호와께서 너희의 연고로 내게도 진노하사 가라사대 너도 그리로 들어가지 못하리라
  3. 너의 종자 눈의 아들 여호수아는 그리로 들어갈 것이니 너는 그를 담대케 하라 그가 이스라엘에게 그 땅을 기업으로 얻게 하리라
  4. 또 너희가 사로잡히리라 하던 너희의 아이들과 당일에 선악을 분변치 못하던 너희 자녀들 그들은 그리로 들어갈 것이라 내가 그 땅을 그들에게 주어 산업이 되게 하리라
  5. 너희는 회정하여 홍해 길로하여 광야로 들어갈찌니라 하시매
  1. Then you replied, "We have sinned against the LORD. We will go up and fight, as the LORD our God commanded us." So every one of you put on his weapons, thinking it easy to go up into the hill country.
  2. But the LORD said to me, "Tell them, 'Do not go up and fight, because I will not be with you. You will be defeated by your enemies.' "
  3. So I told you, but you would not listen. You rebelled against the LORD's command and in your arrogance you marched up into the hill country.
  4. The Amorites who lived in those hills came out against you; they chased you like a swarm of bees and beat you down from Seir all the way to Hormah.
  5. You came back and wept before the LORD, but he paid no attention to your weeping and turned a deaf ear to you.
  1. 너희가 대답하여 내게 이르기를 우리가 여호와께 범죄하였사오니 우리 하나님께서 우리에게 명하신대로 우리가 올라가서 싸우리이다 하고 너희가 각각 병기를 띠고 경솔히 산지로 올라가려 할 때에
  2. 여호와께서 내게 이르시되 너는 그들에게 이르기를 너희는 올라가지 말라 싸우지도 말라 내가 너희 중에 있지 아니하니 너희가 대적에게 패할까 하노라 하셨다 하라 하시기로
  3. 내가 너희에게 고하였으나 너희가 듣지 아니하고 여호와의 명을 거역하고 천자히 산지로 올라가매
  4. 그 산지에 거하는 아모리 족속이 너희를 마주 나와서 벌떼 같이 너희를 쫓아 세일산에서 쳐서 호르마까지 미친지라
  5. 너희가 돌아와서 여호와 앞에서 통곡하나 여호와께서 너희의 소리를 듣지 아니하시며 너희에게 귀를 기울이지 아니하셨으므로
  1. And so you stayed in Kadesh many days--all the time you spent there.
  1. 너희가 가데스에 여러날 동안 거하였었나니 곧 너희가 그곳에 거하던 날 수대로니라
