창세기 16:1-17:27

 자식을 낳지 못하던 아브람의 아내 사래는 몸종 하갈을 통해 이스마엘을 낳게 했다. 아브람의 나이 99세 때, 하나님께서 아브람과 사래의 이름을 아브라함과 사라로 바꿀 것을 명하시고 언약의 후손 이삭이 태어날 것을 말씀하셨다. 그리고 집안의 모든 남자들에게 언약의 표인 할례를 시행하게 하셨다.
  
  이스마엘의 출생(16:1-16:16)    
 
  1. Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian maidservant named Hagar;
  2. so she said to Abram, "The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my maidservant; perhaps I can build a family through her." Abram agreed to what Sarai said.
  3. So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian maidservant Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife.
  4. He slept with Hagar, and she conceived. When she knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress.
  5. Then Sarai said to Abram, "You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my servant in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the LORD judge between you and me."
  1. 아브람의 아내 사래는 아직 아이를 낳지 못했는데, 마침 사래에게는 하갈이라는 이집트인 몸종이 있었다.
  2. 사래가 아브람에게 말하였다. "야훼께서 나에게 자식을 주지 않으시니, 내 몸종을 받아주십시오. 그 몸에서라도 아들을 얻어 대를 이었으면 합니다." 아브람은 사래의 뜻을 받아들이기로 하였다.
  3. 아브람의 아내 사래는 이집트인 몸종 하갈을 남편 아브람에게 소실로 들여보냈다. 이것은 아브람이 가나안 땅에 정착한 지 십 년이 지난 뒤의 일이었다.
  4. 아브람이 하갈과 한자리에 들었더니, 하갈의 몸에 태기가 있게 되었다. 하갈은 그것을 알고 안주인을 업신여기게 되었다.
  5. 그러자 사래가 아브람에게 호소하였다. "내가 이렇게 멸시를 받는 것은 당신 탓입니다. 나는 내 몸종을 당신 품에 안겨드렸습니다. 그런데 그가 자기 몸에 태기가 있는 것을 알고는 저를 업신여깁니다. 야훼께서 나와 당신 사이의 시비를 가려주시기 바랍니다."
  1. "Your servant is in your hands," Abram said. "Do with her whatever you think best." Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she fled from her.
  2. The angel of the LORD found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur.
  3. And he said, "Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?" "I'm running away from my mistress Sarai," she answered.
  4. Then the angel of the LORD told her, "Go back to your mistress and submit to her."
  5. The angel added, "I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count."
  1. 아브람이 사래에게 말하였다. "당신의 몸종인데 당신 마음대로 할 수 있지 않소? 당신 좋을 대로 하시오." 사래가 하갈을 박대하자 하갈은 주인 곁을 피하여 도망치는데,
  2. 야훼의 천사가 빈들에 있는 샘터에서 하갈을 만났다. 그 샘터는 수르로 가는 길가에 있었다.
  3. 그 천사가 "사래의 종 하갈아! 어디에서 와서 어디로 가는 길이냐?" 하고 물었다. "나의 주인 사래를 피하여 도망치는 길입니다." 하갈이 이렇게 대답하자,
  4. 야훼의 천사는 주인 곁으로 돌아가, 고생을 참고 견디라면서
  5. 이렇게 일러주는 것이었다. "내가 네 자손을 아무도 셀 수 없을 만큼 많이 불어나게 하리라."
  1. The angel of the LORD also said to her: "You are now with child and you will have a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the LORD has heard of your misery.
  2. He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers."
  3. She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: "You are the God who sees me," for she said, "I have now seen the One who sees me."
  4. That is why the well was called Beer Lahai Roi ; it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered.
  5. So Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had borne.
  1. 야훼의 천사는 다시 "너는 아들을 배었으니 낳거든 이름을 이스마엘이라 하여라. 네 울부짖음을 야훼께서 들어주셨다.
  2. 네 아들은 들나귀 같은 사람이라, 닥치는 대로 치고 받아 모든 골육의 형제와 등지고 살리라."
  3. 하갈은 자기에게 말씀해 주시는 야훼를 '나를 돌보아 주시는 하느님'이라고 불렀다. 하갈이 "이런 데서 나를 돌보시는 하느님을 뵙다니!" 하고 말한 데서 그런 이름이 생긴 것이다.
  4. 그래서 그 샘터를 '라하이 로이'라고 불렀다. 그 샘터는 카데스와 베렛 사이에 있었다.
  5. 하갈은 아브람에게 아들을 낳아주었다. 아브람은 하갈이 낳아준 아들의 이름을 이스마엘이라 하였다.
  1. Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael.
  1. 하갈이 아브람에게 아들을 낳아준 것은 아브람의 나이 팔십육 세 되던 해의 일이었다.
 
  언약의 표인 할례(17:1-17:27)    
 
  1. When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, "I am God Almighty ; walk before me and be blameless.
  2. I will confirm my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers."
  3. Abram fell facedown, and God said to him,
  4. "As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations.
  5. No longer will you be called Abram ; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations.
  1. 아브람이 구십구 세 되던 해에 야훼께서 아브람에게 나타나시어 말씀하셨다. "나는 전능한 신이다. 너는 내 앞을 떠나지 말고 흠없이 살아라.
  2. 나는 너와 나 사이에 계약을 세워 네 후손을 많이 불어나게 하리라."
  3. 아브람이 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드리자 하느님께서 그에게 다시 말씀하셨다.
  4. "내가 너와 계약을 맺는다. 너는 많은 민족의 조상이 되리라.
  5. 내가 너를 많은 민족의 조상으로 삼으리니, 네 이름은 이제 아브람이 아니라 아브라함이라 불리리라.
  1. I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you.
  2. I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.
  3. The whole land of Canaan, where you are now an alien, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God."
  4. Then God said to Abraham, "As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come.
  5. This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised.
  1. 나는 너에게서 많은 자손이 태어나 큰 민족을 이루게 하고 왕손도 너에게서 나오게 하리라.
  2. 나는 너와 네 후손의 하느님이 되어주기로, 너와 대대로 네 뒤를 이을 후손들과 나 사이에 나의 계약을 세워 이를 영원한 계약으로 삼으리라.
  3. 네가 몸붙여 살고 있는 가나안 온 땅을 너와 네 후손에게 준다. 나는 그들의 하느님이 되어주리라."
  4. 하느님께서 또 아브라함에게 말씀하셨다. "너는 내 계약을 지켜야 한다. 너뿐 아니라, 네 후손 대대로 지켜야 한다.
  5. 너희 남자들은 모두 할례를 받아라. 이것이 너와 네 후손과 나 사이에 세운 내 계약으로서 너희가 지켜야 할 일이다.
  1. You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you.
  2. For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner--those who are not your offspring.
  3. Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant.
  4. Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant."
  5. God also said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah.
  1. 너희는 포경을 베어 할례를 베풀어야 한다. 이것이 나와 너희 사이에 세운 계약의 표다.
  2. 대대로 너희 모든 남자는 난 지 팔 일 만에 할례를 받아야 한다. 네 후손이 아닌, 네 집에서 난 씨종이나 외국인에게서 돈 주고 산 종이라도 할례를 받아야 한다.
  3. 네 집에서 난 씨종이나 돈 주고 산 종도 반드시 할례를 받아야 한다. 그러면 내 계약이 영원한 계약으로서 너희 몸에 새겨질 것이다.
  4. 포경을 베어 할례를 받지 않은 남자는 내 계약을 깨뜨린 사람이니 겨레에게서 따돌림을 받게 되리라."
  5. 하느님께서 아브라함에게 분부하셨다. "네 아내 사래를 사래라는 이름으로 부르지 마라. 그의 이름은 사라이다.
  1. I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her."
  2. Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, "Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?"
  3. And Abraham said to God, "If only Ishmael might live under your blessing!"
  4. Then God said, "Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.
  5. And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation.
  1. 내가 그에게 복을 내려 너에게 아들을 낳아주게 하리라. 그에게 복을 내려 많은 민족의 어미가 되게 하고 그에게서 민족들을 다스릴 왕손이 일어나게 하리라."
  2. 아브라함은 땅에 얼굴을 대고 엎드려 있으면서도 속으로는 우스워서 "나이 백 살에 아들을 보다니! 사라도 아흔 살이나 되었는데 어떻게 아기를 낳겠는가?" 하고 중얼거렸다.
  3. 그러면서 하느님께 이스마엘이나 당신의 귀여움을 받으며 살게 해달라고 청하자
  4. 하느님께서는 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "아니다. 네 아내 사라가 너에게 아들을 낳아줄 터이니, 그의 이름을 이사악이라고 하여라. 나는 그와 나의 계약을 세우리라. 그와 그의 후손의 하느님이 되어주기로 영원한 계약을 세워주리라.
  5. 이스마엘을 생각하고 하는 네 말도 들어주리라. 그에게도 복을 내려 자손이 많이 태어나 수없이 불어나게 하겠다. 그에게서 열두 영도자가 나서 큰 민족이 일어나게 하겠다.
  1. But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year."
  2. When he had finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him.
  3. On that very day Abraham took his son Ishmael and all those born in his household or bought with his money, every male in his household, and circumcised them, as God told him.
  4. Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised,
  5. and his son Ishmael was thirteen;
  1. 나의 이 계약은 사라가 내년 이맘 때 너에게 낳아줄 이사악에게 세워주는 것이다."
  2. 하느님께서는 아브라함에게 하실 말씀을 다 하시고 그를 떠나 올라가셨다.
  3. 아브라함은 그 날로 아들 이스마엘을 비롯하여 집에서 난 씨종과 돈 주고 산 종에 이르기까지 집 안에 있는 모든 남자를 다 불러들여 포경을 베어 할례를 베풀었다.
  4. 아브라함도 포경을 베어 할례를 받았는데, 그 때 나이가 구십구 세였고
  5. 아들 이스마엘이 포경을 베어 할례를 받은 것은 십삼 세 되던 해였다.
  1. Abraham and his son Ishmael were both circumcised on that same day.
  2. And every male in Abraham's household, including those born in his household or bought from a foreigner, was circumcised with him.
  1. 이렇게 아브라함과 그의 아들 이스마엘은 같은 날 할례를 받았다.
  2. 아브라함의 집에 있는 모든 남자들, 집에서 난 씨종이나 외국인에게서 돈 주고 산 종도 모두 아브라함과 함께 할례를 받았다.
