신명기 17:1-19:14

 모세는 백성들에게 우상 숭배자에 대한 처벌과 재판, 왕으로 세움받은 자의 행실에 관한 규정을 지시해 주었다. 그리고 기업을 분배받지 못하는 레위 지파에게는 하나님께서 친히 기업이 되신다는 것을 밝히고, 이방 종교의 영매나 복술자를 용납하지 말고 하나님께서 보내실 선지자를 청종할 것을 명했다. 또한 과실 치사를 범한 자들이 피할 도피성을 택정하고 토지의 경계표를 옮기지 말 것을 명했다.
  
  재판과 왕에 대한 규례(17:1-17:20)    
 
  1. Do not sacrifice to the LORD your God an ox or a sheep that has any defect or flaw in it, for that would be detestable to him.
  2. If a man or woman living among you in one of the towns the LORD gives you is found doing evil in the eyes of the LORD your God in violation of his covenant,
  3. and contrary to my command has worshiped other gods, bowing down to them or to the sun or the moon or the stars of the sky,
  4. and this has been brought to your attention, then you must investigate it thoroughly. If it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done in Israel,
  5. take the man or woman who has done this evil deed to your city gate and stone that person to death.
  1. 너희는 흠이 있거나 결함이 있는 소와 양을 너희 하느님 야훼께 제물로 잡아 바치지 마라. 그런 것은 너희 하느님 야훼께서 역겨워하시는 짓이다.
  2. 너희 하느님 야훼께서 주시는 어느 성 안에서든지 남녀 불문하고 너희 하느님 야훼의 눈에 거슬리는 일을 하는 사람이 생겨 하느님께서 맺어주신 계약을 깨뜨리는 일이 있을 것이다.
  3. 내가 시키지도 않았는데 해나 달이나 하늘의 모든 천체와 같은 다른 신들을 찾아가서 섬기고 엎드려 절하는 사람이 생길 것이다.
  4. 이런 일이 있다는 보고를 듣거든, 너희는 그것이 사실인지 들어보고 잘 조사해 보아야 한다. 만일 이스라엘 가운데 누군가가 그같이 불측한 일을 한 것이 사실로 드러나거든,
  5. 그런 못할 짓을 한 자가 남자든 여자든 성문 밖으로 끌어내어 돌로 쳐죽여라.
  1. On the testimony of two or three witnesses a man shall be put to death, but no one shall be put to death on the testimony of only one witness.
  2. The hands of the witnesses must be the first in putting him to death, and then the hands of all the people. You must purge the evil from among you.
  3. If cases come before your courts that are too difficult for you to judge--whether bloodshed, lawsuits or assaults--take them to the place the LORD your God will choose.
  4. Go to the priests, who are Levites, and to the judge who is in office at that time. Inquire of them and they will give you the verdict.
  5. You must act according to the decisions they give you at the place the LORD will choose. Be careful to do everything they direct you to do.
  1. 그런데 그 사람을 죽이려면 두세 사람의 증언이 있어야 한다. 한 사람의 증언만으로는 죽일 수 없다.
  2. 그를 죽일 때에는 증인이 맨 먼저 쳐야 한다. 그러면 온 백성이 뒤따라 칠 것이다. 그리하여 이런 나쁜 일을 너희 가운데서 송두리째 뿌리뽑아야 한다.
  3. 너희가 사는 성 안에서 살인 사건이나 민사 사건이나 폭력 사건 중, 너희가 다루기 벅찬 소송 사건이 생길 경우 너희 하느님 야훼께서 고르신 곳으로 그 소송건을 가지고 올라가서
  4. 사제인 레위인과 바로 그 때 일보는 재판관에게 제출하면 그들이 조사해 보고 너희에게 판결을 내려줄 것이다.
  5. 너희는 야훼께서 고르신 그 곳에서 그들이 내리는 판결에 복종해야 한다. 그들이 일러주는 대로 어김없이 따라야 한다.
  1. Act according to the law they teach you and the decisions they give you. Do not turn aside from what they tell you, to the right or to the left.
  2. The man who shows contempt for the judge or for the priest who stands ministering there to the LORD your God must be put to death. You must purge the evil from Israel.
  3. All the people will hear and be afraid, and will not be contemptuous again.
  4. When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you and have taken possession of it and settled in it, and you say, "Let us set a king over us like all the nations around us,"
  5. be sure to appoint over you the king the LORD your God chooses. He must be from among your own brothers. Do not place a foreigner over you, one who is not a brother Israelite.
  1. 그들이 내리는 지시와 선포하는 판결을 그대로 받아들여 그 판결을 어김없이 따르도록 하여라.
  2. 거기에서 야훼를 섬기는 당직 사제나 재판관의 말을 업신여기고 불복하는 자가 있으면, 누구든지 사형에 처하여라. 그리하여 이런 나쁜 일을 이스라엘에서 송두리째 뿌리뽑아야 한다.
  3. 그래야 모든 백성이 듣고 두려워하며 다시는 거만한 마음을 품지 못하게 될 것이다.
  4. 너희는 너희 하느님 야훼께서 주시는 땅에 들어가서 그 땅을 차지하고 자리를 잡으면, 이내 주변에 있는 모든 민족들처럼 왕을 세우고 싶은 생각이 들 것이다. 그런 생각이 들면
  5. 너희는 반드시 너희 하느님 야훼께서 골라주시는 사람을 왕으로 세워야 한다. 같은 동족을 임금으로 세워야지, 동족이 아닌 외국인을 임금으로 세우면 안 된다.
  1. The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the LORD has told you, "You are not to go back that way again."
  2. He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.
  3. When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the priests, who are Levites.
  4. It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the LORD his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees
  5. and not consider himself better than his brothers and turn from the law to the right or to the left. Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel.
  1. 그러나 왕이라고 해도 군마를 많이 기르는 일만은 하지 못한다. 백성을 이집트로 다시 보내어 군마를 많이 얻어오게 해도 안 된다. 너희가 그리로 되돌아가지 못하리라고 야훼께서 너희에게 일러두시지 않았느냐?
  2. 왕은 또 많은 후궁을 거느리지 못한다. 그러면 마음이 다른 데로 쏠릴 것이다. 은과 금을 너무 많이 모아도 안 된다.
  3. 그는 왕위에 오른 다음에도 레위인 사제를 시켜 이 가르침을 두루마리에 베껴
  4. 평생 자기 옆에 두고 날마다 읽어야 한다. 그리하여 자기를 택하신 야훼 하느님을 경외하고 이 가르침에 담겨 있는 말 한마디 한마디를 성심껏 지키며 그 모든 규정을 실천하여야 한다.
  5. 마음이 부풀어올라 제 동족을 얕잡아보는 일도 없고 이 계명을 어기는 일 또한 털끝만큼도 없어야 한다. 그리하면 그뿐 아니라 그의 후손들도 이스라엘 왕위에 오래도록 앉게 될 것이다.
 
  레위인과 선지자(18:1-18:22)    
 
  1. The priests, who are Levites--indeed the whole tribe of Levi--are to have no allotment or inheritance with Israel. They shall live on the offerings made to the LORD by fire, for that is their inheritance.
  2. They shall have no inheritance among their brothers; the LORD is their inheritance, as he promised them.
  3. This is the share due the priests from the people who sacrifice a bull or a sheep: the shoulder, the jowls and the inner parts.
  4. You are to give them the firstfruits of your grain, new wine and oil, and the first wool from the shearing of your sheep,
  5. for the LORD your God has chosen them and their descendants out of all your tribes to stand and minister in the LORD's name always.
  1. 사제인 레위인뿐 아니라 레위 지파에 속한 사람은 다른 이스라엘 사람이 받는 유산을 나누어받지 못한다. 그들은 야훼께 살라 바치는 제물과 그 밖에 야훼께 받는 몫을 먹고 살아야 한다.
  2. 동족 가운데서 그들에게 나누어줄 유산은 없다. 야훼께서 약속하신 대로 당신만이 그들의 유산이 되어주실 것이다.
  3. 백성이 제물을 잡아 바칠 때 사제들은 그들에게서 소나 양의 앞다리와 턱과 위를 받을 권리가 있다.
  4. 또 맏물로 거둔 밀, 술, 기름, 처음 깎은 양털도 받을 권리가 있다.
  5. 사제들은 너희 하느님 야훼께서 모든 지파들 가운데서 뽑아 세우시어, 너희 하느님 야훼 앞에서 그를 섬기며 그의 이름을 불러 기리는 직책을 대대손손 길이 맡은 사람들이다.
  1. If a Levite moves from one of your towns anywhere in Israel where he is living, and comes in all earnestness to the place the LORD will choose,
  2. he may minister in the name of the LORD his God like all his fellow Levites who serve there in the presence of the LORD.
  3. He is to share equally in their benefits, even though he has received money from the sale of family possessions.
  4. When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there.
  5. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft,
  1. 레위인 누군가가 너희가 사는 이스라엘 어느 성 안에 몸붙여 살고 있다가 거기를 떠나 야훼께서 택하신 곳에 가고 싶어하거든,
  2. 그리로 가서 혈통이 같은 다른 레위인들과 다름없이 하느님의 이름 야훼를 부르며 야훼를 섬기게 해주어야 한다.
  3. 그는 선조들에게서 물려받은 것을 팔아 수입으로 삼은 것말고도 정해진 몫을 받아 먹고 살아야 한다.
  4. 너희는 너희 하느님 야훼께서 주시는 땅에 들어간 다음, 거기에 사는 민족들이 하는 발칙한 일을 배워 그대로 행하는 일이 없어야 한다.
  5. 너희 가운데 자기 아들이나 딸을 불에 살라 바치는 자가 있어서는 안 된다. 또 점쟁이, 복술가, 술객, 마술사,
  1. or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.
  2. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you.
  3. You must be blameless before the LORD your God.
  4. The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so.
  5. The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him.
  1. 주문을 외는 자, 도깨비 또는 귀신을 불러 물어보는 자, 혼백에게 물어보는 자가 있어서도 안 된다.
  2. 이런 짓을 하는 자는 모두 야훼께서 미워하신다. 너희 하느님 야훼께서 저 백성들을 너희 앞에서 몰아내시려는 것도 그들이 이런 발칙한 일을 하기 때문이다.
  3. 너희는 한마음으로 너희 하느님 야훼만 섬겨라.
  4. 너희가 이제 몰아내려는 이 민족들은 복술가나 점쟁이가 시키는 대로 해야 했지만, 너희에게만은 너희 하느님 야훼께서 그런 것을 허락하지 아니하신다.
  5. 너희 하느님 야훼께서는 나와 같은 예언자를 동족 가운데서 일으키시어 세워주실 것이다. 너희는 그의 말을 들어야 한다.
  1. For this is what you asked of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, "Let us not hear the voice of the LORD our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die."
  2. The LORD said to me: "What they say is good.
  3. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him.
  4. If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account.
  5. But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death."
  1. 이것은 호렙에서 대회가 열렸던 날 너희가 너희 하느님 야훼께 청을 드렸던 바로 그것이다. '나의 하느님 야훼의 소리를 다시는 직접 듣지 않게 해주십시오. 이 무서운 불을 다시는 보지 않게 해주십시오. 내가 죽을까 두렵습니다.'
  2. 야훼께서는 옳은 말이라고 하시면서 나에게 이렇게 일러주셨다.
  3. '나는 네 동족 가운데서 너와 같은 예언자를 일으키리라. 내가 나의 말을 그의 입에 담아주리니, 그는 나에게서 지시받은 것을 그대로 다 일러줄 것이다.
  4. 그가 내 이름으로 하는 말을 전할 때 듣지 않는 사람이 있으면 내가 친히 그에게 추궁할 것이다.
  5. 그러나 내가 말하라고 시키지 않은 것을 주제넘게 내 이름으로 말하거나 다른 신들의 이름으로 말하는 예언자는 죽임을 당하리라.'
  1. You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD ?"
  2. If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
  1. 그런데 그것이 야훼께서 하신 말씀인지 아닌지 어떻게 알겠느냐 하는 생각이 들겠지만,
  2. 그 예언자가 야훼의 이름으로 말한 것이 그대로 이루어지지 않으면 그 말은 야훼께서 하신 말씀이 아니다. 제멋대로 말한 것이니 그런 예언자는 두려워할 것 없다.
 
  도피성(19:1-19:14)    
 
  1. When the LORD your God has destroyed the nations whose land he is giving you, and when you have driven them out and settled in their towns and houses,
  2. then set aside for yourselves three cities centrally located in the land the LORD your God is giving you to possess.
  3. Build roads to them and divide into three parts the land the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, so that anyone who kills a man may flee there.
  4. This is the rule concerning the man who kills another and flees there to save his life--one who kills his neighbor unintentionally, without malice aforethought.
  5. For instance, a man may go into the forest with his neighbor to cut wood, and as he swings his ax to fell a tree, the head may fly off and hit his neighbor and kill him. That man may flee to one of these cities and save his life.
  1. 너희 하느님 야훼께서 너희에게 주실 땅을, 현재 차지하고 있는 민족들을 너희 하느님 야훼께서 소탕해 주시어 너희가 그 땅을 차지하고 그 성읍과 집에서 살게 되거든,
  2. 너희 하느님 야훼께서 너희에게 주시어 차지하게 하신 땅에 있는 성읍들 가운데서 셋을 따로 구별해 놓아야 한다.
  3. 너희 하느님 야훼께 물려받아 너희 것이 된 곳 전역을 적당한 거리를 두고 세 지역으로 나누어서 모든 살인자가 피신할 수 있는 장소로 삼아라.
  4. 살인자가 그리로 피신한다고 하여 다 사는 것은 아니다. 살 수 있는 경우는 일찍이 미워한 일도 없는데 엉겁결에 동족을 쳐죽였을 경우뿐이다.
  5. 가령 동족과 함께 나무하러 숲 속에 들어가 도끼를 휘둘러 나무를 찍다가 도끼 날이 자루에서 빠져 동족을 쳐서 죽게 했을 경우, 그는 이 성읍들 가운데 어디에든지 피신하면 살 수가 있다.
  1. Otherwise, the avenger of blood might pursue him in a rage, overtake him if the distance is too great, and kill him even though he is not deserving of death, since he did it to his neighbor without malice aforethought.
  2. This is why I command you to set aside for yourselves three cities.
  3. If the LORD your God enlarges your territory, as he promised on oath to your forefathers, and gives you the whole land he promised them,
  4. because you carefully follow all these laws I command you today--to love the LORD your God and to walk always in his ways--then you are to set aside three more cities.
  5. Do this so that innocent blood will not be shed in your land, which the LORD your God is giving you as your inheritance, and so that you will not be guilty of bloodshed.
  1. 그 거리가 너무 멀면 피살자에게 앙갚음을 하여줄 근친이 복수심에 불타 그를 따라잡아 죽이게 될 터이니 너무 멀어서는 안 된다. 그는 일찍이 피살자를 미워한 일이 없었으므로 죽을 죄를 지었다고 할 수 없는 것이다.
  2. 세 성읍을 따로 떼어놓으라고 너희에게 명령하는 것은 이 때문이다.
  3. 너희 하느님 야훼께서 너희 선조들에게 맹세하신 대로 너희 국경을 넓혀주시어 너희 선조들에게 주시겠다고 약속하신 그 땅을 너희가 모두 차지할 때가 올 것이다.
  4. 물론 내가 오늘 너희에게 내리는 이 모든 명령을 성심껏 지켜 죽을 때까지 너희 하느님 야훼를 사랑하고 그가 가르쳐주신 길을 따라야 그렇게 되겠지만, 그 때에는 이 세 성읍에다 세 성읍을 더 추가해야 한다.
  5. 그리하여 너희 하느님 야훼께 물려받아 너희 것이 된 곳에서 죄없는 자의 피를 흘리는 일이 없도록 하여라. 그리하여 피 흘린 죗값을 너희가 받지 않도록 하여라.
  1. But if a man hates his neighbor and lies in wait for him, assaults and kills him, and then flees to one of these cities,
  2. the elders of his town shall send for him, bring him back from the city, and hand him over to the avenger of blood to die.
  3. Show him no pity. You must purge from Israel the guilt of shedding innocent blood, so that it may go well with you.
  4. Do not move your neighbor's boundary stone set up by your predecessors in the inheritance you receive in the land the LORD your God is giving you to possess.
  1. 그러나 동족을 미워하여 기회를 노리다가 달려들어 쳐죽이고 이 성읍들 중의 어느 곳에나 피신한 자가 있거든,
  2. 그가 살던 성읍의 장로들이 사람을 그리로 보내어 그를 잡아다가, 피살자에게 앙갚음을 하여줄 근친에게 넘겨주어 죽이게 하여라.
  3. 그런 자는 애처롭게 여기지 마라. 이렇게 하여 죄없는 자가 피 흘리는 일을 이스라엘 가운데서 송두리째 뿌리뽑아야 한다. 그래야 너희가 잘될 것이다.
  4. 너희는 너희 하느님 야훼께서 너희에게 주시어 차지하게 한 땅에서 너희에게 배당된 구역과 이웃 구역 사이에 옛 어른들이 그어놓은 경계선을 옮기지 못한다.
