여호수아 6:1-7:26

 가나안 정복 전쟁에 나선 이스라엘이 하나님의 지시대로 여리고 성을 7일 동안 돈 뒤 외치자 성이 무너졌다. 백성들은 라합과 그의 가족을 제외한 모든 사람을 죽이고 은금은 하나님께 바쳤다. 그러나 아간의 범죄로 말미암아 아이 성 공략에 실패하고 말았고, 이에 여호수아는 하나님의 명령에 따라 제비뽑기를 실시하여 아간으로부터 죄를 자백받고 그와 그의 가족을 처형했다.
  
  여리고 점령(6:1-6:27)    
 
  1. Now Jericho was tightly shut up because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in.
  2. Then the LORD said to Joshua, "See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men.
  3. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days.
  4. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams' horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets.
  5. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have all the people give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the people will go up, every man straight in."
  1. 예리고는 이스라엘 백성 앞에 굳게 닫혀 있어 드나드는 사람의 그림자 하나 없었다.
  2. 야훼께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. "보라. 내가 예리고와 그 왕을 네 손에 부친다. 굳센 용사들아,
  3. 너희 모든 군인들은 날마다 이 성을 한 바퀴씩 돌아라. 그렇게 엿새 동안 돌아라.
  4. 사제 일곱이 각기 숫양뿔 나팔을 들고 궤 앞에 나서라. 이렛날에는 이 성을 일곱 번 돈 다음 사제들이 나팔을 불어라.
  5. 그 숫양뿔 나팔 소리가 나면 백성은 다 같이 힘껏 고함을 질러라. 그러면 성이 무너져 내릴 것이다. 그 때 전군은 일제히 쳐들어가거라."
  1. So Joshua son of Nun called the priests and said to them, "Take up the ark of the covenant of the LORD and have seven priests carry trumpets in front of it."
  2. And he ordered the people, "Advance! March around the city, with the armed guard going ahead of the ark of the LORD."
  3. When Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets before the LORD went forward, blowing their trumpets, and the ark of the LORD's covenant followed them.
  4. The armed guard marched ahead of the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard followed the ark. All this time the trumpets were sounding.
  5. But Joshua had commanded the people, "Do not give a war cry, do not raise your voices, do not say a word until the day I tell you to shout. Then shout!"
  1. 눈의 아들 여호수아는 사제들을 불러서 일렀다. "계약궤를 메고 나서시오. 일곱 사제는 숫양뿔 나팔 일곱 개를 가지고 야훼의 궤 앞에 나서시오."
  2. 그리고 나서 백성에게 명령을 내렸다. "행동을 개시하여라. 이 성을 돌아라. 정예부대는 야훼의 궤 앞에 나서라."
  3. 이렇게 여호수아가 백성에게 명령한 대로, 일곱 사제가 숫양뿔 나팔 일곱 개를 가지고 야훼 앞에 나서서 불었다. 그 뒤를 야훼의 계약궤가 따랐다.
  4. 나팔을 부는 사제들 앞에는 정예부대가 행군하고 그 궤 뒤를 후위부대가 따라가는데 나팔 소리는 계속 울려 퍼졌다.
  5. 여호수아가 백성에게 명령을 내렸다. "고함을 지르지 마라. 작은 소리도 내지 마라. 한마디도 입밖에 내지 않고 있다가 내가 고함을 지르라고 하거든 그 때 고함을 질러라."
  1. So he had the ark of the LORD carried around the city, circling it once. Then the people returned to camp and spent the night there.
  2. Joshua got up early the next morning and the priests took up the ark of the LORD.
  3. The seven priests carrying the seven trumpets went forward, marching before the ark of the LORD and blowing the trumpets. The armed men went ahead of them and the rear guard followed the ark of the LORD, while the trumpets kept sounding.
  4. So on the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp. They did this for six days.
  5. On the seventh day, they got up at daybreak and marched around the city seven times in the same manner, except that on that day they circled the city seven times.
  1. 그는 야훼의 궤를 모시고 성을 한 바퀴 돌게 한 다음 진지로 돌아와 그 밤을 진지에서 보내게 하였다.
  2. 여호수아가 아침 일찍 일어나면 사제들은 야훼의 궤를 메고 나섰다.
  3. 일곱 숫양뿔 나팔을 가진 일곱 사제가 야훼의 궤 앞에서 행진하며 나팔을 불면, 정예부대가 그들 앞에 서서 행군하였고 후위부대는 야훼의 궤 뒤를 따랐다. 나팔 소리는 계속 울려 퍼졌다.
  4. 둘째 날도 그들은 성을 한 바퀴 돌고 진지로 돌아왔다. 이렇게 하기를 엿새 동안 하였다.
  5. 이렛날이 되어 새벽 동이 트자 그들은 일찍 일어나 전과 같은 방식으로 성을 일곱 바퀴 돌았다. 그 날만 성을 일곱 바퀴 돈 것이다.
  1. The seventh time around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast, Joshua commanded the people, "Shout! For the LORD has given you the city!
  2. The city and all that is in it are to be devoted to the LORD. Only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in her house shall be spared, because she hid the spies we sent.
  3. But keep away from the devoted things, so that you will not bring about your own destruction by taking any of them. Otherwise you will make the camp of Israel liable to destruction and bring trouble on it.
  4. All the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron are sacred to the LORD and must go into his treasury."
  5. When the trumpets sounded, the people shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the people gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so every man charged straight in, and they took the city.
  1. 일곱 번째 사제들이 나팔을 불자 여호수아가 백성에게 외쳤다. "고함을 질러라. 야훼께서 저 성을 너희에게 주셨다.
  2. 저 성과 그 안에 있는 모든 것을 야훼께 바쳐 없애버려라. 다만 창녀 라합의 목숨과 그의 집에 있는 사람만은 살려두어라. 그 여자는 우리의 사명을 띠고 갔던 사람들을 숨겨주었다.
  3. 너희는 깊이 명심하여라. 없애버리게 되어 있는 것은 무엇이든지 탐내지 마라. 없애버리게 되어 있는 것을 가지지 마라. 그랬다가는 전멸당하는 운명을 이스라엘 진영에 스스로 불러들이게 된다.
  4. 은이나 금이나 동제품이나 철제품은 모두 야훼께 드릴 거룩한 것이다. 그러니 야훼의 금고에 넣어야 한다."
  5. 백성들은 고함을 지르고 나팔 소리는 울려 퍼졌다. 나팔 소리가 울리자 백성은 "와!" 하고 고함을 질렀다. 그 순간 성벽이 무너져 내렸다. 그러자 백성은 일제히 성으로 곧장 쳐들어가 성을 점령하였다.
  1. They devoted the city to the LORD and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it--men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys.
  2. Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, "Go into the prostitute's house and bring her out and all who belong to her, in accordance with your oath to her."
  3. So the young men who had done the spying went in and brought out Rahab, her father and mother and brothers and all who belonged to her. They brought out her entire family and put them in a place outside the camp of Israel.
  4. Then they burned the whole city and everything in it, but they put the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the LORD's house.
  5. But Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, with her family and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho--and she lives among the Israelites to this day.
  1. 남녀노소 가리지 않고 소건 양이건 나귀건 모조리 칼로 쳐 없애버렸다.
  2. 여호수아가 땅을 정탐하러 갔던 두 사람에게 일렀다. "그 창녀의 집에 들어가 맹세한 대로 그와 그에게 딸린 모든 사람을 데려오너라."
  3. 정탐원으로 갔던 젊은이들이 그 집에 들어가 라합과 그의 부모와 오빠들뿐 아니라 그에게 딸린 일가 친척을 모두 이스라엘 진 바깥 안전한 곳으로 데려내왔다.
  4. 그리고는 성에 불을 질러 그 안에 있는 것을 모조리 태워버렸다. 그러나 은과 금, 동제품과 철제품은 야훼의 금고에 넣었다.
  5. 창녀 라합과 그의 가문과 그에게 딸린 모든 사람만은 여호수아가 목숨을 살려주었다. 그래서 그들이 이날까지 이스라엘 가운데 섞여 살고 있는 것이다. 그것은 그 여자가 예리고를 정찰하라고 여호수아가 보낸 사람들을 숨겨주었기 때문이다.
  1. At that time Joshua pronounced this solemn oath: "Cursed before the LORD is the man who undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho: "At the cost of his firstborn son will he lay its foundations; at the cost of his youngest will he set up its gates."
  2. So the LORD was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout the land.
  1. 그 때 여호수아가 맹세하였다. "이 성을 다시 짓겠다고 나서는 자는 야훼께 저주를 받으리라. 맏아들을 죽이지 않고는 기초를 놓지 못하고 막내아들을 죽이지 않고는 성문을 달지 못하리라."
  2. 야훼께서 여호수아와 함께 해주시니 그의 명성이 온 땅에 두루 퍼졌다.
 
  아간의 범죄(7:1-7:26)    
 
  1. But the Israelites acted unfaithfully in regard to the devoted things ; Achan son of Carmi, the son of Zimri, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of them. So the LORD's anger burned against Israel.
  2. Now Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is near Beth Aven to the east of Bethel, and told them, "Go up and spy out the region." So the men went up and spied out Ai.
  3. When they returned to Joshua, they said, "Not all the people will have to go up against Ai. Send two or three thousand men to take it and do not weary all the people, for only a few men are there."
  4. So about three thousand men went up; but they were routed by the men of Ai,
  5. who killed about thirty-six of them. They chased the Israelites from the city gate as far as the stone quarries and struck them down on the slopes. At this the hearts of the people melted and became like water.
  1. 이스라엘 백성이 모든 부정한 것을 없애라는 명을 어겨 죄를 짓는 일이 생겼다. 유다 지파 가운데 제라의 증손이자 잡디의 손자이며 가르미의 아들인 아간이 부정한 것을 가졌던 것이다. 이 일 때문에 야훼께서는 이스라엘 백성에게 몹시 노하셨다.
  2. 여호수아는 예리고에서 베델 동편 아이로 사람을 보내면서 "올라가 그 땅을 정탐하고 오너라." 하고 명령하였다. 그들은 올라가 아이를 정탐하고
  3. 여호수아에게 돌아와 보고하였다. "전군이 다 올라갈 것까지는 없습니다. 이 삼천 명만 올라가도 아이는 넉넉히 칠 수 있습니다. 사람이 많지 않더이다. 군대를 총출동시켜 고생시킬 필요는 없습니다."
  4. 그리하여 군대 약 삼천 명이 그리로 쳐 올라갔다가, 도리어 아이의 주민들에게 쫓기게 되었다.
  5. 그들은 성문에서 스바림까지, 또 거기에서 비탈길을 따라 이스라엘 사람들을 추격해 오면서 삼십육 명이나 죽였다. 백성은 크게 낙담하였다.
  1. Then Joshua tore his clothes and fell facedown to the ground before the ark of the LORD, remaining there till evening. The elders of Israel did the same, and sprinkled dust on their heads.
  2. And Joshua said, "Ah, Sovereign LORD, why did you ever bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan!
  3. O Lord, what can I say, now that Israel has been routed by its enemies?
  4. The Canaanites and the other people of the country will hear about this and they will surround us and wipe out our name from the earth. What then will you do for your own great name?"
  5. The LORD said to Joshua, "Stand up! What are you doing down on your face?
  1. 여호수아와 이스라엘의 장로들은 옷을 찢고 머리에 먼지를 쓴 채 저물 때까지 야훼의 궤 앞에 엎드려 있었다.
  2. 여호수아가 울부짖었다. "나의 주 야훼여, 어찌하여 이 백성으로 하여금 요르단 강을 건너게 하시고는 이제 아모리 사람들 손에 부치시어 멸망시키려고 하십니까? 차라리 요르단 강 건너편에서 살게 해주셨더라면 좋았겠습니다.
  3. 나의 주여, 소인이 아뢰는 말에 귀를 기울여주십시오. 그러나 이스라엘이 원수에게 등을 보인 이 마당에 제가 무슨 말을 할 수 있겠습니까?
  4. 가나안 사람들뿐 아니라 이 땅에 사는 모든 사람이 이 소식을 들으면 우리를 포위하고 공격할 것입니다. 그리 되면 우리는 이름을 이을 자도 없이 세상에서 끊어질 것입니다. 주여, 어떻게 당신의 위대하신 이름을 살리시렵니까?"
  5. 야훼께서 여호수아에게 대답하셨다. "일어나거라! 어찌하여 이렇게 엎드려 있느냐?
  1. Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions.
  2. That is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies; they turn their backs and run because they have been made liable to destruction. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy whatever among you is devoted to destruction.
  3. "Go, consecrate the people. Tell them, 'Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow; for this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: That which is devoted is among you, O Israel. You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove it.
  4. " 'In the morning, present yourselves tribe by tribe. The tribe that the LORD takes shall come forward clan by clan; the clan that the LORD takes shall come forward family by family; and the family that the LORD takes shall come forward man by man.
  5. He who is caught with the devoted things shall be destroyed by fire, along with all that belongs to him. He has violated the covenant of the LORD and has done a disgraceful thing in Israel!' "
  1. 이스라엘은 죄를 지었다. 내가 분부한 지시를 어기고 부정한 것을 가졌다. 그리고 그것을 훔쳐다가 자기 행낭에 숨겨두었다.
  2. 그리하여 저희들이 스스로 부정한 것이 되었다. 이스라엘 군이 원수들과 맞설 수 없게 된 것은, 원수들에게 등을 보이게 된 것은 그 때문이다. 너희 가운데서 그 부정한 것을 치워버려라. 그렇지 아니하면 다시는 내가 너희와 함께 하지 아니하리라.
  3. 너는 일어나 이 백성을 깨끗하게 하여라. 이스라엘의 하느님 야훼께서 내일을 위하여 몸과 마음을 깨끗이 하라 하더라고 전하며 이렇게 일러라. '이스라엘아, 너희 가운데 부정한 것이 있다. 그 부정한 것을 치울 때까지 너희는 원수들과 맞설 수 없으리라.'
  4. 너희는 아침에 지파별로 나오너라. 그 가운데서 내가 잡아내는 지파가 갈래별로 나오고 또 그 가운데서 잡아내는 갈래가 가문별로 나오고 또 그 가운데서 잡아내는 갈래에 속한 가문의 장정이 차례로 나오너라.
  5. 부정한 것을 가지고 있다가 잡힌 자는 그 식구와 함께 화형을 당하리라. 그가 나 야훼의 지시를 어기고 이스라엘 가운데서 못할 짓을 했기 때문이다."
  1. Early the next morning Joshua had Israel come forward by tribes, and Judah was taken.
  2. The clans of Judah came forward, and he took the Zerahites. He had the clan of the Zerahites come forward by families, and Zimri was taken.
  3. Joshua had his family come forward man by man, and Achan son of Carmi, the son of Zimri, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.
  4. Then Joshua said to Achan, "My son, give glory to the LORD, the God of Israel, and give him the praise. Tell me what you have done; do not hide it from me."
  5. Achan replied, "It is true! I have sinned against the LORD, the God of Israel. This is what I have done:
  1. 여호수아는 아침 일찍 일어나서 이스라엘을 지파별로 나오게 하였다. 그 가운데서 유다 지파가 잡혔다.
  2. 유다 지파를 갈래별로 나서게 하였더니 제라 갈래가 잡혔고, 제라 갈래를 가문별로 나서게 했더니 잡디 가문이 잡혔다.
  3. 다시 여호수아가 잡디 가문의 장정을 차례로 나서게 했더니 유다 지파, 제라의 증손이요 잡디의 손자며 가르미의 아들인 아간이 잡혔다.
  4. 여호수아가 아간에게 물었다. "아들아, 이스라엘의 하느님 야훼의 위엄을 알아 모시고 그에게 자백하여라. 무슨 일을 했든지 숨기지 말고 말하여라."
  5. 아간이 여호수아에게 대답하였다. "제가 정녕 이스라엘의 하느님 야훼께 죄를 지은 사람입니다. 제가 한 일은 이러합니다.
  1. When I saw in the plunder a beautiful robe from Babylonia, two hundred shekels of silver and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver underneath."
  2. So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent, and there it was, hidden in his tent, with the silver underneath.
  3. They took the things from the tent, brought them to Joshua and all the Israelites and spread them out before the LORD.
  4. Then Joshua, together with all Israel, took Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the gold wedge, his sons and daughters, his cattle, donkeys and sheep, his tent and all that he had, to the Valley of Achor.
  5. Joshua said, "Why have you brought this trouble on us? The LORD will bring trouble on you today." Then all Israel stoned him, and after they had stoned the rest, they burned them.
  1. 제가 전리품 중에서 시날에서 난 좋은 외투 한 벌과 은 이백 세겔과 오십 세겔 나가는 금덩이 하나를 보고는 그만 욕심이 나서 가졌습니다. 그것들은 제 천막 땅 속에다 은을 밑에 깔고 묻어두었습니다."
  2. 여호수아는 심부름꾼을 보냈다. 그들이 그의 천막으로 달려가 보니, 과연 외투가 묻혀 있고 그 밑에 은이 깔려 있는 것이었다.
  3. 그들은 그것을 모두 천막에서 꺼내어 여호수아와 이스라엘 백성들에게 가져다가 야훼 앞에 놓았다.
  4. 여호수아는 제라의 아들 아간을 끌고 그 은과 외투와 금덩이를 거두어 아골 골짜기로 올라갔다. 그의 아들딸을 비롯하여 소, 나귀, 양, 그의 천막과 그에게 딸린 모든 것을 가지고 올라가는데 온 이스라엘이 그를 따라 나섰다.
  5. 여호수아가 말하였다. "어쩌다가 네가 우리에게 이런 참혹한 일을 당하게 했느냐? 너도 오늘 야훼께 참혹한 일을 당하리라." 이 말이 떨어지자 온 이스라엘이 그를 돌무더기로 만들었다. 또 그의 일족을 불사르기도 하고 돌로 쳐죽이기도 하였다.
  1. Over Achan they heaped up a large pile of rocks, which remains to this day. Then the LORD turned from his fierce anger. Therefore that place has been called the Valley of Achor ever since.
  1. 그들이 그 위에 쌓아올린 큰 돌무더기는 오늘까지 남아 있다. 그제야 야훼의 극렬한 분노가 걷혔다. 이런 사연이 있어서 그 곳 이름을 오늘날에도 아골 골짜기라 부르는 것이다.
