열왕기상 2:1-2:46

 다윗이 솔로몬에게 마지막 유언을 남기고 임종하므로써 본격적인 솔로몬 시대가 개막되었다. 솔로몬은 신정 왕국을 확립해 가는 데 걸림이 되는 자들을 차례로 제거해 가며 왕권을 공고히 해 나갔다.
  
  다윗의 죽음(2:1-2:12)    
 
  1. When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son.
  2. "I am about to go the way of all the earth," he said. "So be strong, show yourself a man,
  3. and observe what the LORD your God requires: Walk in his ways, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and requirements, as written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go,
  4. and that the LORD may keep his promise to me: 'If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.'
  5. "Now you yourself know what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me--what he did to the two commanders of Israel's armies, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether. He killed them, shedding their blood in peacetime as if in battle, and with that blood stained the belt around his waist and the sandals on his feet.
  1. 다윗은 죽을 날이 가까워지자 그의 아들 솔로몬을 불러 훈계하였다.
  2. "나는 이제 세상 모든 사람이 가는 길로 가야 할 것 같다. 힘을 내어 사내 대장부가 되어라.
  3. 야훼 네 하느님의 명령을 지키고 그분이 보여주신 길을 따라가며 또 모세법에 기록된 대로 하느님의 법도와 계명, 율례와 가르침을 지켜라. 네가 어디로 가든지 무엇을 하든지 성공할 것이다.
  4. 그리 하여야 야훼께서 일찍이 나에게 '만일 네 후손들이 행실을 조심하고 내 앞에서 마음과 정성을 다 기울여 성실히 살아간다면 너에게서 이스라엘 왕위에 오를 자가 끊기지 아니하리라.' 하신 그 약속을 그대로 이루어주시리라.
  5. 더구나 너는 스루야의 아들 요압이 나에게 한 짓, 곧 이스라엘 군의 두 사령관 넬의 아들 아브넬과 예델의 아들 아마사를 해치웠던 일을 알고 있다. 그들은 전쟁시의 원수를 평화시에 갚음으로써 그 피를 나의 허리띠와 신발에 묻혔다.
  1. Deal with him according to your wisdom, but do not let his gray head go down to the grave in peace.
  2. "But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai of Gilead and let them be among those who eat at your table. They stood by me when I fled from your brother Absalom.
  3. "And remember, you have with you Shimei son of Gera, the Benjamite from Bahurim, who called down bitter curses on me the day I went to Mahanaim. When he came down to meet me at the Jordan, I swore to him by the LORD : 'I will not put you to death by the sword.'
  4. But now, do not consider him innocent. You are a man of wisdom; you will know what to do to him. Bring his gray head down to the grave in blood."
  5. Then David rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David.
  1. 그러니 너는 머리를 써서 그로 하여금 백발이 되어 평온하게 지하로 내려가지 못하게 하여라.
  2. 그러나 길르앗 사람 바르질래의 아들들에게는 의리를 지켜 네 식탁에서 함께 먹도록 하여라. 그들은 내가 네 형 압살롬을 피해 다닐 때 나에게 한결같은 충성을 바쳤다.
  3. 또 바후림 출신 베냐민 사람 게라의 아들 시므이를 너에게 남겨두고 나는 간다. 그는 내가 마하나임에 갔을 때에 나에게 심한 악담을 퍼부었던 자이다. 그런데 그가 요르단으로 나를 마중나왔을 때 나는 그를 칼로 죽이지 않겠다고 야훼를 두고 맹세하였다.
  4. 그러나 그런 자를 무죄한 자로 그냥 두지는 마라. 너는 슬기로우니 그를 어떻게 다루어야 할는지 잘 알 것이다. 그런 자는 백발이 되어서도 피를 흘리며 지하로 내려가게 해야 한다."
  5. 다윗은 선조들과 함께 잠들어 다윗 성에 안장되었다.
  1. He had reigned forty years over Israel--seven years in Hebron and thirty-three in Jerusalem.
  2. So Solomon sat on the throne of his father David, and his rule was firmly established.
  1. 다윗이 이스라엘을 다스린 햇수는 사십 년이다. 헤브론에서 칠 년, 예루살렘에서 삼십삼 년을 다스렸다.
  2. 솔로몬이 선왕 다윗의 왕좌에 앉았다. 그는 왕위를 든든히 굳혔다.
 
  솔로몬의 왕권 강화(2:13-2:46)    
 
  1. Now Adonijah, the son of Haggith, went to Bathsheba, Solomon's mother. Bathsheba asked him, "Do you come peacefully?" He answered, "Yes, peacefully."
  2. Then he added, "I have something to say to you." "You may say it," she replied.
  3. "As you know," he said, "the kingdom was mine. All Israel looked to me as their king. But things changed, and the kingdom has gone to my brother; for it has come to him from the LORD.
  4. Now I have one request to make of you. Do not refuse me." "You may make it," she said.
  5. So he continued, "Please ask King Solomon--he will not refuse you--to give me Abishag the Shunammite as my wife."
  1. 하낏의 아들 아도니야는 솔로몬의 어머니 바쎄바를 찾아갔다. 바쎄바가 "네가 언짢은 일로 왔느냐?" 하고 묻자 그는 그렇지 않다면서
  2. "드릴 말씀이 있어 왔습니다." 하였다. "말해 보아라." 하고 바쎄바가 허락하자
  3. 그는 이렇게 말하였다. "어머니께서도 아시다시피 이 왕국은 제 것이었습니다. 그리고 온 이스라엘도 제가 다스릴 것으로 기대하고 있었습니다. 그런데 이제 왕국은 뒤엎어져 아우가 야훼에게서 받았으므로 아우의 것이 되었습니다.
  4. 이제 어머니께 한 가지 청이 있습니다. 물리치지 마십시오." 바쎄바가 말해 보라고 하자
  5. 그는 이렇게 청하는 것이었다. "솔로몬 왕에게 말하여, 수넴 여자 아비삭을 저에게 주어 아내로 맞게 해주십시오. 왕은 어머니 말씀을 물리치지 않을 것입니다."
  1. "Very well," Bathsheba replied, "I will speak to the king for you."
  2. When Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah, the king stood up to meet her, bowed down to her and sat down on his throne. He had a throne brought for the king's mother, and she sat down at his right hand.
  3. "I have one small request to make of you," she said. "Do not refuse me." The king replied, "Make it, my mother; I will not refuse you."
  4. So she said, "Let Abishag the Shunammite be given in marriage to your brother Adonijah."
  5. King Solomon answered his mother, "Why do you request Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? You might as well request the kingdom for him--after all, he is my older brother--yes, for him and for Abiathar the priest and Joab son of Zeruiah!"
  1. 바쎄바가 대답하였다. "그러지, 내가 임금에게 네 말을 전해 주마."
  2. 그리하여 바쎄바는 아도니야의 청을 전하러 솔로몬 왕을 찾아갔다. 왕은 일어나 자기 어머니를 맞으며 몸을 굽혀 인사를 하였다. 그리고 자신은 왕좌에 앉고 어머니에게는 자리를 권하여 자기 오른편에 앉게 하였다.
  3. 바쎄바가 입을 열었다. "작은 청이 하나 있는데 거절하지 마시오." 왕이 대답하였다. "어머니, 말씀해 보십시오. 거절하지 않겠습니다."
  4. 왕의 어머니가 말하였다. "수넴 여자 아비삭을 아도니야에게 주어 아내로 삼게 하시오."
  5. 이 말을 듣고 솔로몬 왕이 어머니에게 대답하였다. "어찌하여 어머니께서 아도니야를 위하여 수넴 여자 아비삭을 청하십니까? 아주 나라까지 그에게 주라고 청하시지요! 그는 저의 형이 되고 또 그의 편에 사제 에비아달과 스루야의 아들 요압도 있지 않습니까?"
  1. Then King Solomon swore by the LORD : "May God deal with me, be it ever so severely, if Adonijah does not pay with his life for this request!
  2. And now, as surely as the LORD lives--he who has established me securely on the throne of my father David and has founded a dynasty for me as he promised--Adonijah shall be put to death today!"
  3. So King Solomon gave orders to Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he struck down Adonijah and he died.
  4. To Abiathar the priest the king said, "Go back to your fields in Anathoth. You deserve to die, but I will not put you to death now, because you carried the ark of the Sovereign LORD before my father David and shared all my father's hardships."
  5. So Solomon removed Abiathar from the priesthood of the LORD, fulfilling the word the LORD had spoken at Shiloh about the house of Eli.
  1. 그리고 나서 솔로몬 왕은 야훼를 두고 맹세하였다. "내가 천벌을 받는 한이 있더라도, 이런 청을 하는 자는 죽여야 하겠습니다.
  2. 이제 나를 세우시어 선친 다윗의 왕좌에 앉히시고 약속하신 대로 나에게 왕실을 일으켜주신 야훼를 두고 맹세합니다. 아도니야는 오늘 죽습니다."
  3. 그리고 나서 솔로몬 왕은 여호야다의 아들 브나야를 보내어 아도니야를 쳐죽였다.
  4. 그리고 왕은 사제 에비아달에게 명령을 내렸다. "그대가 상속받은 땅 아나돗으로 가시오. 그대는 죽어 마땅하나 그대가 선왕 다윗 밑에서 야훼 하느님의 궤를 책임졌었고 또 선왕과 온갖 고난을 같이한 것을 참작하여 목숨만은 살려두겠소."
  5. 이렇게 솔로몬은 에비아달을 야훼의 사제직에서 쫓아내 버렸다. 이로써 야훼께서 실로에 있는 엘리의 가문을 두고 하신 말씀이 그대로 이루어졌다.
  1. When the news reached Joab, who had conspired with Adonijah though not with Absalom, he fled to the tent of the LORD and took hold of the horns of the altar.
  2. King Solomon was told that Joab had fled to the tent of the LORD and was beside the altar. Then Solomon ordered Benaiah son of Jehoiada, "Go, strike him down!"
  3. So Benaiah entered the tent of the LORD and said to Joab, "The king says, 'Come out!' " But he answered, "No, I will die here." Benaiah reported to the king, "This is how Joab answered me."
  4. Then the king commanded Benaiah, "Do as he says. Strike him down and bury him, and so clear me and my father's house of the guilt of the innocent blood that Joab shed.
  5. The LORD will repay him for the blood he shed, because without the knowledge of my father David he attacked two men and killed them with the sword. Both of them--Abner son of Ner, commander of Israel's army, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of Judah's army--were better men and more upright than he.
  1. 이 소식이 요압에게 전해졌다. 그는 압살롬을 지지하지는 않았으나 아도니야를 지지했던 터이라 야훼의 장막으로 피신하여 제단의 뿔을 잡고 있었다.
  2. 사람들이 솔로몬 왕에게 고하였다. "요압이 야훼의 장막으로 피신하여 제단 곁에 있습니다." 솔로몬은 여호야다의 아들 브나야를 보내어 그를 쳐죽이게 하였다.
  3. 브나야가 야훼의 장막으로 가서 요압에게 소리쳤다. "어명이오. 나오시오!" 그러나 그는 그 자리에서 죽겠다고 버티었다. 하는 수 없이 브나야는 왕에게 보고하여, 요압이 이러저러하게 대답하더라고 알렸다.
  4. 왕이 브나야에게 다시 명령을 내렸다. "그의 원대로 해주시오. 그를 죽여 묻으시오. 그리하면 요압이 까닭없이 피를 흘려 나와 내 아버지의 가문에 씌웠던 죄가 벗겨지는 것이오.
  5. 요압은 선왕 다윗께서 모르는 사이에 자기보다 떳떳하고 더 잘난 두 사람, 이스라엘의 군사령관 넬의 아들 아브넬과 유다의 군사령관 예델의 아들 아마사를 살해한 죄를 야훼께 받은 것이오.
  1. May the guilt of their blood rest on the head of Joab and his descendants forever. But on David and his descendants, his house and his throne, may there be the LORD's peace forever."
  2. So Benaiah son of Jehoiada went up and struck down Joab and killed him, and he was buried on his own land in the desert.
  3. The king put Benaiah son of Jehoiada over the army in Joab's position and replaced Abiathar with Zadok the priest.
  4. Then the king sent for Shimei and said to him, "Build yourself a house in Jerusalem and live there, but do not go anywhere else.
  5. The day you leave and cross the Kidron Valley, you can be sure you will die; your blood will be on your own head."
  1. 두 장군을 죽인 죗값으로 요압과 그 후손들은 길이 망하겠지만 다윗과 그 후손, 그 왕실과 왕좌는 야훼께서 길이 흥하게 해주실 것이오."
  2. 그리하여 여호야다의 아들 브나야는 요압이 있는 데로 올라가 그를 쳐죽였다. 요압의 시체는 광야에 있는 자기의 집에 안장되었다.
  3. 왕은 요압 대신에 여호야다의 아들 브나야를 군사령관으로 임명하고 에비아달의 자리에 사제 사독을 앉혔다.
  4. 그 후 임금은 사람을 보내어 시므이를 불러다 놓고 명령을 내렸다. "너는 예루살렘에 집을 짓고 거기에서 살아라. 그리고 한 발짝도 나가면 안 된다.
  5. 나가서 키드론 시내를 건너면 정녕 죽으리라. 네 피가 네 머리로 돌아가는 것이다."
  1. Shimei answered the king, "What you say is good. Your servant will do as my lord the king has said." And Shimei stayed in Jerusalem for a long time.
  2. But three years later, two of Shimei's slaves ran off to Achish son of Maacah, king of Gath, and Shimei was told, "Your slaves are in Gath."
  3. At this, he saddled his donkey and went to Achish at Gath in search of his slaves. So Shimei went away and brought the slaves back from Gath.
  4. When Solomon was told that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath and had returned,
  5. the king summoned Shimei and said to him, "Did I not make you swear by the LORD and warn you, 'On the day you leave to go anywhere else, you can be sure you will die'? At that time you said to me, 'What you say is good. I will obey.'
  1. "임금님의 말씀이 지당하십니다. 내 주 임금님께서 말씀하신 대로 소인은 따르겠습니다." 이렇게 시므이는 왕에게 대답하고 예루살렘에서 여러 날을 살았다.
  2. 그리고 삼 년이 지날 무렵이었다. 시므이의 노예 둘이 갓 왕 마아가의 아들 아기스에게로 달아났다. 시므이는 노예가 갓으로 달아났다는 말을 듣고
  3. 일어나 나귀에 안장을 얹고는 노예를 찾기 위하여 아기스를 찾아 갓으로 갔다. 그는 기어이 갓에서 노예를 데리고 왔다.
  4. 그러나 시므이가 예루살렘을 떠나 갓을 다녀왔다는 말이 솔로몬에게 전해지자
  5. 왕은 사람을 보내어 시므이를 불러다 놓고 말하였다. "내가 너에게 야훼를 두고 맹세하게 하지 않았느냐? 엄하게 경고하면서 '어디고 한 발짝이라도 나가면 정녕 죽으리라.' 하지 않았느냐? 그리고 너도 내 말이 지당하다고 하면서 순종하겠다고 하였다.
  1. Why then did you not keep your oath to the LORD and obey the command I gave you?"
  2. The king also said to Shimei, "You know in your heart all the wrong you did to my father David. Now the LORD will repay you for your wrongdoing.
  3. But King Solomon will be blessed, and David's throne will remain secure before the LORD forever."
  4. Then the king gave the order to Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he went out and struck Shimei down and killed him. The kingdom was now firmly established in Solomon's hands.
  1. 그런데 어찌하여 너는 야훼를 두고 한 맹세를 지키지 않았으며 내 명령을 어겼느냐?"
  2. 왕은 한마디 덧붙였다. "너는 네가 내 아버지 다윗에게 어떤 못된 짓을 했는지 스스로 잘 알고 있을 것이다. 야훼께서 네 악을 네 머리에 돌아가게 하시리라.
  3. 그러나 나 솔로몬 왕은 복을 받으며, 다윗의 왕위는 야훼 앞에서 영원히 서리라."
  4. 그리고 왕은 여호야다의 아들 브나야에게 명령을 내려, 나가 시므이를 쳐죽이게 하였다. 이와 같이 하여 왕국은 솔로몬의 손안에서 틀이 잡혀갔다.
