- Other Benjamites and some men from Judah also came to David in his stronghold.
- David went out to meet them and said to them, "If you have come to me in peace, to help me, I am ready to have you unite with me. But if you have come to betray me to my enemies when my hands are free from violence, may the God of our fathers see it and judge you."
- Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, chief of the Thirty, and he said: "We are yours, O David! We are with you, O son of Jesse! Success, success to you, and success to those who help you, for your God will help you." So David received them and made them leaders of his raiding bands.
- Some of the men of Manasseh defected to David when he went with the Philistines to fight against Saul. (He and his men did not help the Philistines because, after consultation, their rulers sent him away. They said, "It will cost us our heads if he deserts to his master Saul.")
- When David went to Ziklag, these were the men of Manasseh who defected to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu and Zillethai, leaders of units of a thousand in Manasseh.

- 어느 정월, 요르단 강물이 넘치던 때에, 그들은 강을 건너가 골짜기에 사는 사람들을 동으로 서로 이리 저리 쳐서 모조리 쫓아낸 일도 있었다.
- 베냐민과 유다 지파에서도 요새로 다윗을 찾아가 합세한 사람들이 있었다.
- 다윗은 그들을 나와 맞으며 말하였다. "그대들이 내 편이 되어 나를 도우러 왔다면, 나도 같이 일할 마음이 있소. 나는 그대들에게 부당한 일을 하지 않겠소. 그런데 그대들이 나를 배신하고 나를 원수의 손에 넘겨준다면, 우리 선조들을 보살피시던 하느님께 벌을 받을 것이오."
- 후에 삼십인부대 지휘관이 된 아마새가 영감을 받아 말하였다. "다윗 장군님, 우리는 장군님 부하입니다. 이새의 아드님, 우리는 장군님 편입니다. 장군님은 천운을 타신 몸, 장군님도 만사형통하시고 장군님을 돕는 이들도 만사형통할 것입니다." 다윗은 그들을 받아들여 특공대 지휘관으로 삼았다.
- 므나쎄 지파에서도 다윗에게 넘어온 사람들이 있었다. 한때 다윗이 불레셋과 함께 나서서 사울을 치려 했으나 불레셋 추장들이 자기네끼리 "다윗은 결국 우리 목을 잘라 가지고 옛 상전 사울에게 투항할 것이다." 하면서 다윗을 돌려보낸 일이 있었다.

- They helped David against raiding bands, for all of them were brave warriors, and they were commanders in his army.
- Day after day men came to help David, until he had a great army, like the army of God.
- These are the numbers of the men armed for battle who came to David at Hebron to turn Saul's kingdom over to him, as the LORD had said:
- men of Judah, carrying shield and spear-6,800 armed for battle;
- men of Simeon, warriors ready for battle-7,100;

- 그래서 다윗이 불레셋 편에 들어 싸우지 못하고 시글락으로 돌아왔을 때, 므나쎄 지파 천인부대 지휘관들이었던 아드나, 요자밧, 여디아엘, 미가엘, 요자밧, 엘리후, 실대가 므나쎄 지파에서 떨어져 나와 다윗을 찾아왔던 것이다.
- 이들은 다 힘센 장사들이라 다윗의 특공대에 큰 힘이 되었다. 이들은 다 군 지휘관이 되었다.
- 이렇게 다윗을 도우려는 사람이 날마다 모여들어 다윗의 군대는 막강해졌다.
- 다윗이 헤브론에 있을 때, 그를 찾아가서 그의 정예부대 지휘관이 되어, 야훼의 말씀대로 사울의 왕권이 다윗에게 돌아오도록 공을 세운 사람들의 수효는 다음과 같다.

- men of half the tribe of Manasseh, designated by name to come and make David king-18,000;
- men of Issachar, who understood the times and knew what Israel should do--200 chiefs, with all their relatives under their command;
- men of Zebulun, experienced soldiers prepared for battle with every type of weapon, to help David with undivided loyalty-50,000;
- men of Naphtali-1,000 officers, together with 37,000 men carrying shields and spears;
- men of Dan, ready for battle-28,600;

- 납달리에서는 장교 천 명이 방패와 창을 든 군인 삼만 칠천 명을 거느리고 왔다.

- men of Asher, experienced soldiers prepared for battle-40,000;
- and from east of the Jordan, men of Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh, armed with every type of weapon-120,000.
- All these were fighting men who volunteered to serve in the ranks. They came to Hebron fully determined to make David king over all Israel. All the rest of the Israelites were also of one mind to make David king.
- The men spent three days there with David, eating and drinking, for their families had supplied provisions for them.
- Also, their neighbors from as far away as Issachar, Zebulun and Naphtali came bringing food on donkeys, camels, mules and oxen. There were plentiful supplies of flour, fig cakes, raisin cakes, wine, oil, cattle and sheep, for there was joy in Israel.

- 이상은 군사 훈련을 제대로 받은 군인으로서, 다윗을 온 이스라엘의 왕으로 떠받들려는 한 뜻을 품고 헤브론으로 모여든 사람들이다. 그 밖에도 이스라엘 사람은 한결같이 다윗을 왕으로 삼으려 하였다.
- 그들은 거기에서 다윗과 함께 사흘을 지내면서 저희의 일족이 마련해 준 음식을 먹고 마시며 축제를 올렸다.
