- Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.

- 우리가 알다시피 율법 아래 사는 사람들은 그 율법이 명령하는 모든 것의 지배를 받습니다. 그래서 결국 모든 사람은 말문이 막히게 되고 온 세상은 하느님의 심판에 복종하게 된 것입니다.
- 그러므로 율법을 지키는 것으로는 아무도 하느님과 올바른 관계를 가질 수 없습니다. 율법은 단지 무엇이 죄가 되는지를 알려줄 따름입니다.
- 그러나 이제는 하느님께서 인간을 당신과 올바른 관계에 놓아주시는 길이 드러났습니다. 그것은 율법과는 아무 관계가 없습니다. 율법서와 예언서가 바로 이 사실을 증명해 줍니다.
- 하느님께서는 믿는 사람이면 누구나 아무런 차별도 없이 당신과 올바른 관계에 놓아주십니다. 그것은 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로써 이루어지는 것입니다.
- 모든 사람이 죄를 지었기 때문에 하느님이 주셨던 본래의 영광스러운 모습을 잃어버렸습니다.

- and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
- God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished--
- he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
- Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith.
- For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.

- 하느님께서는 그리스도 예수를 통해서 모든 사람을 죄에서 풀어주시고 당신과 올바른 관계를 가질 수 있는 은총을 거저 베풀어주셨습니다.
- 그리스도를 믿는 사람에게는 죄를 용서해 주시려고 하느님께서 그리스도를 제물로 내어주셔서 피를 흘리게 하셨습니다. 이리하여 하느님께서 당신의 정의를 나타내셨습니다. 과거에는 하느님께서 인간의 죄를 참고 눈감아주심으로 당신의 정의를 나타내셨고
- 오늘날에 와서는 죄를 물으심으로써 당신의 정의를 나타내셨습니다. 이렇게 해서 하느님께서는 당신이 올바르시다는 것과 예수를 믿는 사람이면 누구든지 당신과 올바른 관계에 놓아주신다는 것을 보여주십니다.
- 그러니 우리가 내세울 만한 것이 무엇입니까? 아무것도 없습니다. 우리가 어떻게 해서 하느님과 올바른 관계를 되찾게 되었습니까? 율법을 잘 지켜서 그렇게 된 것입니까? 아닙니다. 그것은 믿음을 통해서 이루어진 것입니다.
- 사람은 율법을 지키는 것과는 관계없이 믿음을 통해서 하느님과 올바른 관계를 맺는다고 우리는 확신합니다.

- Is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too,
- since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith.
- Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law.

- 하느님은 유다인만의 하느님이신 줄 압니까? 이방인의 하느님이시기도 하지 않습니까? 과연 이방인의 하느님도 되십니다.
- 하느님은 오직 한 분뿐이셔서 할례를 받은 사람이나 받지 않은 사람이나 다 같이 그들의 믿음을 통해서 당신과 올바른 관계를 갖게 해주십니다.
- 그러면 우리가 믿음을 내세운다고 해서 율법을 무시하는 줄 아십니까? 절대로 그렇지 않습니다. 오히려 율법을 존중합니다.
