- Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.
- Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness.
- For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.
- What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!
- Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?

- 그러므로 결국 죽어버릴 육체의 욕망에 굴복하지 마십시오. 그래야 죄의 지배를 받지 않을 것입니다.
- 또 여러분의 지체를 죄에 내맡기어 악의 도구가 되게 하는 일은 없어야 합니다. 오히려 여러분은 죽었다가 다시 살아난 사람으로서 여러분 자신을 하느님께 바치고 여러분의 지체가 하느님을 위한 정의의 도구로 쓰이게 하십시오.
- 여러분은 율법의 지배를 받는 것이 아니라 은총의 지배를 받고 있으므로 죄가 여러분을 지배할 수 없을 것입니다.
- 그렇다면 우리가 율법의 지배를 받지 않고 은총의 지배를 받고 있다고 해서 죄를 지어도 좋다는 말이겠습니까? 절대로 그럴 수 없습니다.
- 누구든지 자기 자신을 남에게 내맡겨서 복종하면 곧 자기가 복종하는 그 사람의 종이 된다는 것을 모르십니까? 죄의 종이 되어 죽는 사람도 있고 하느님께 순종하는 종이 되어 하느님과 올바른 관계를 가지게 되는 사람도 있다는 말입니다.

- But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted.
- You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
- I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness.
- When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness.
- What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!

- 여러분이 전에는 죄의 종이었지만 이제는 진실한 가르침을 전해 받고 그것에 성심껏 복종하게 되었으니 하느님께 감사할 일입니다.
- 그리고 여러분은 죄의 권세를 벗어나서 이제는 정의의 종이 되었습니다.
- 여러분의 이해력이 미치지 못할까 하여 이렇게 인간사에 비추어 말하는 것입니다. 여러분이 전에는 온몸을 더러운 일과 불법의 종으로 내맡기어 불법을 일삼았지만 이제는 온몸을 정의의 종으로 바쳐 거룩한 사람이 되도록 힘써야 할 것입니다.
- 여러분이 죄의 종이었을 때는 여러분은 정의에 예속되지 않고 제멋대로 놀아났었습니다.
- 그 때에 여러분이 얻은 것이 무엇입니까? 지금 생각하면 부끄러운 일들밖에는 없지 않았습니까? 그런 생활은 결국 죽음을 안겨줍니다.

- But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.
- For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

- 그러나 이제는 여러분이 죄에서 해방되어 하느님의 종이 되었습니다. 그 결과로 여러분은 거룩한 사람이 되었고 마침내 영원한 생명을 누리게 되었습니다.
- 죄의 대가는 죽음이지만 하느님께서 거저 주시는 선물은 우리 주 그리스도 예수와 함께 사는 영원한 생명입니다.
