욥기

  본서는 공의로운 하나님께서 불의를 방관하신 이유와 의로운 자가 고난받는 원인이 무엇인지를 밝혀 주며, 고난을 통하여 하나님을 더욱 의지해야 한다는 것을 보여 주고 있다. 특히 하나님, 인간, 창조, 사단, 죄, 의, 고난, 정의, 회개, 믿음의 개념을 성경적으로 올바르게 정리하는 데 공헌하고 있다.

  본서는 서론인 1, 2장과 본론인 3:1 - 42:6, 그리고 결론인 42:7-17로 명확하게 구분되어 있으며 상호 논리적 필연성으로 연결되어 있다. 즉 서론은 문제의 발단을 기록하고 있으며, 본론은 욥이 당한 고난에 대하여 욥과 친구들의 변론 및 하나님의 메시지를 통하여 다양하게 해석하고 있고, 결론은 하나님의 은혜로 모든 것이 회복된 상황을 보여주고 있다.

 

 

욥기 1:1-3:26

 욥은 순전하고 정직하여 하나님을 경외하며 악에서 떠난 자였다. 그러나 사단의 참소로 인해 욥은 그의 모든 소유물들과 자녀들을 잃고 온몸에 악창이 생겼다. 그렇지만 욥은 하나님께 입술로 범죄하지 않았으며, 이 소식을 듣고 찾아온 친구 엘리바스, 빌닷, 소발은 욥의 상태를 보고 7일 동안 말을 걸지 못하였다. 절망한 욥은 자신의 생일을 저주하였다.
  
  사단의 시험(1:1-1:22)    
 
  1. In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil.
  2. He had seven sons and three daughters,
  3. and he owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred donkeys, and had a large number of servants. He was the greatest man among all the people of the East.
  4. His sons used to take turns holding feasts in their homes, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.
  5. When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and have them purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, "Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." This was Job's regular custom.
  1. 우스라는 곳에 한 사람이 있었는데 그의 이름은 욥이었다. 그는 완전하고 진실하며 하느님을 두려워하고 악한 일은 거들떠보지도 않는 사람이었다.
  2. 그의 슬하에는 아들 일곱과 딸 셋이 있었다.
  3. 그에게는 양이 칠천 마리, 낙타가 삼천 마리, 겨릿소가 오백 쌍, 암나귀가 오백 마리나 있었고 종들도 매우 많았다. 그는 동방에서 으뜸가는 사람이었다.
  4. 그의 아들들은 번갈아 가며 자기 집에서 잔치를 차리고 세 누이도 불러다가 함께 먹고 마셨다.
  5. 이런 잔치가 한차례 돌아가고 나면 욥은 그들을 불러다가 몸과 마음을 깨끗이 하게 하고 아침 일찍이 그들 하나하나의 몫으로 번제를 드렸다. 아들들이 속으로 죄를 짓고 하느님께 욕을 돌렸을지도 모를 일이었으므로 그렇게 했던 것이다. 욥이 하는 일은 언제나 이러하였다.
  1. One day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them.
  2. The LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan answered the LORD, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it."
  3. Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil."
  4. "Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied.
  5. "Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.
  1. 하루는 하늘의 영들이 야훼 앞에 모여왔다. 사탄이 그들 가운데 끼여 있는 것을 보시고
  2. 야훼께서 사탄에게 물으셨다. "너는 어디 갔다 오느냐?" 사탄이 대답하였다. "땅 위를 이리저리 돌아다니다가 왔습니다."
  3. 야훼께서 사탄에게, "그래, 너는 내 종 욥을 눈여겨보았느냐? 그만큼 온전하고 진실하며 하느님을 두려워하고 악한 일은 거들떠보지도 않는 사람은 땅 위에 다시 없다." 하고 말씀하시자,
  4. 사탄이 야훼께 아뢰었다. "욥이 어찌 까닭 없이 하느님을 두려워하겠습니까?
  5. 당신께서 친히 그와 그의 집과 그의 소유를 울타리로 감싸주시지 않으셨습니까? 그가 손으로 하는 모든 일에 복을 내려주셨고 그의 가축을 땅 위에 번성하게 해주시지 않으셨습니까?
  1. But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face."
  2. The LORD said to Satan, "Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger." Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.
  3. One day when Job's sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother's house,
  4. a messenger came to Job and said, "The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby,
  5. and the Sabeans attacked and carried them off. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"
  1. 이제 손을 들어 그의 모든 소유를 쳐보십시오. 그는 반드시 당신께 면전에서 욕을 할 것입니다."
  2. 야훼께서 사탄에게 이르셨다. "좋다! 이제 내가 그의 소유를 모두 네 손에 부친다. 그러나 그의 몸에만은 손을 대지 마라." 이에 사탄은 야훼 앞에서 물러 나왔다.
  3. 하루는 욥의 아들과 딸들이 맏형의 집에 모여서 잔치를 벌이고 있었는데,
  4. 한 심부름꾼이 욥에게 뛰어와서 고하였다. "소는 밭을 갈고 나귀는 그 근처에서 풀을 뜯고 있었는데
  5. 스바 사람들이 달려들어 모두 약탈해 갔습니다. 그리고 그들은 일꾼들을 모조리 칼로 쳐죽였는데 저만 가까스로 살아 남아서 이렇게 말씀드리러 왔습니다."
  1. While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, "The fire of God fell from the sky and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"
  2. While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, "The Chaldeans formed three raiding parties and swept down on your camels and carried them off. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"
  3. While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, "Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother's house,
  4. when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"
  5. At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship
  1. 그가 채 말을 마치기도 전에 또 한 사람이 와서 고하였다. "하늘에서 벼락이 떨어져 양떼와 일꾼들을 모두 살라버렸습니다. 저만 가까스로 살아 남아서 이렇게 말씀드리러 왔습니다."
  2. 그의 말이 채 끝나기도 전에 또 한 사람이 와서 고하는 것이었다. "갈대아 사람 세 무리가 달려들어 낙타떼를 모두 약탈해 가고 일꾼들을 칼로 쳐죽였습니다. 저만 가까스로 살아 남아서 이렇게 말씀드리러 왔습니다."
  3. 그의 말이 채 끝나기도 전에 또 한 사람이 와서 고하였다. "주인님의 자녀분들이 맏형님의 집에 모여서 먹고 마시는데
  4. 광야에서 모진 바람이 불어와 그 집 네 모퉁이를 쳐서 무너뜨렸습니다. 젊은이들은 모두 깔려 죽었고 저만 가까스로 살아 남아서 이렇게 말씀드리러 왔습니다."
  5. 그제야 욥은 일어나 겉옷을 찢고 머리를 깎았다. 그리고는 땅에 엎드려
  1. and said: "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised."
  2. In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.
  1. 입을 열었다. "벌거벗고 세상에 태어난 몸, 알몸으로 돌아가리라. 야훼께서 주셨던 것, 야훼께서 도로 가져가시니 다만 야훼의 이름을 찬양할지라."
  2. 이렇게 욥은 이 모든 일을 당하여 죄를 짓지 않았고 하느님을 비난하지도 않았다.
 
  사단의 두번째 시험(2:1-2:13)    
 
  1. On another day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them to present himself before him.
  2. And the LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan answered the LORD, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it."
  3. Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason."
  4. "Skin for skin!" Satan replied. "A man will give all he has for his own life.
  5. But stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse you to your face."
  1. 또다시 하늘의 영들이 야훼 앞에 모이는 날이 왔다. 사탄이 그들 가운데 끼여 있는 것을 보시고
  2. 야훼께서 사탄에게 물으셨다. "너는 어디 갔다 오느냐?" 사탄이 대답하였다. "땅 위를 이리저리 돌아다니다가 왔습니다."
  3. 야훼께서 사탄에게, "너는 내 종 욥을 눈여겨보았느냐? 그만큼 온전하고 진실하며 하느님을 두려워하고 악한 일은 거들떠보지도 않는 사람은 땅 위에 다시 없다. 그는 여전하지 않느냐? 네가 나를 충동하여 그를 없애려고 했지만 다 헛일이었다."
  4. 그러자 사탄이 대답하여 아뢰었다. "가죽으로 가죽을 바꿉니다. 사람이란 제 목숨 하나 건지기 위해 내놓지 못할 것이 없는 법입니다.
  5. 이제 손을 들어 그의 뼈와 살을 쳐보십시오. 제가 보장합니다. 그는 반드시 당신께 면전에서 욕을 할 것입니다."
  1. The LORD said to Satan, "Very well, then, he is in your hands; but you must spare his life."
  2. So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the top of his head.
  3. Then Job took a piece of broken pottery and scraped himself with it as he sat among the ashes.
  4. His wife said to him, "Are you still holding on to your integrity? Curse God and die!"
  5. He replied, "You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?" In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.
  1. 야훼께서 사탄에게 이르셨다. "좋다! 이제 내가 그를 네 손에 부친다. 그러나 그의 목숨만은 건드리지 마라."
  2. 사탄은 야훼 앞에서 물러 나오는 길로 곧 욥을 쳐 발바닥에서 정수리까지 심한 부스럼이 나게 하였다.
  3. 욥은 잿더미에 앉아서 토기 조각으로 몸을 긁었다.
  4. 그의 아내가 그에게 말하였다. "당신은 아직도 요지부동이군요? 하느님을 욕하고 죽으시오."
  5. 그러나 욥은 이렇게 대답하였다. "당신조차 미련한 여인처럼 말하다니! 우리가 하느님에게서 좋은 것을 받았는데 나쁜 것이라고 하여 어찌 거절할 수 있단 말이오?" 이렇게 욥은 이 모든 일을 당하여도 입술로 죄를 짓지 않았다.
  1. When Job's three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite, heard about all the troubles that had come upon him, they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him.
  2. When they saw him from a distance, they could hardly recognize him; they began to weep aloud, and they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads.
  3. Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights. No one said a word to him, because they saw how great his suffering was.
  1. 욥이 이 같은 재난을 겪고 있다는 소식을 듣고 그의 세 친구가 각기 제 고장을 떠나 그를 찾아왔다. 그들은 데만 사람 엘리바즈와 수아 사람 빌닷과 나아마 사람 소바르였다. 그들은 함께 문병와서 그를 위로해 주기로 서로 약속이 되어 있었다.
  2. 멀리서 바라보니, 그의 몰골이 알아볼 수 없게 되었으므로 그들은 목을 놓아 울며 겉옷을 찢고 하늘에 먼지를 날려 머리에 뒤집어썼다.
  3. 그들은 이렛동안 주야로 땅에 앉아 그를 바라다볼 뿐 입을 열 수조차 없었다. 그가 고통당하는 모습이 너무나 처참했기 때문이었다.
 
  자기의 생일을 저주하는 욥(3:1-3:26)    
 
  1. After this, Job opened his mouth and cursed the day of his birth.
  2. He said:
  3. "May the day of my birth perish, and the night it was said, 'A boy is born!'
  4. That day--may it turn to darkness; may God above not care about it; may no light shine upon it.
  5. May darkness and deep shadow claim it once more; may a cloud settle over it; may blackness overwhelm its light.
  1. 마침내 욥이 먼저 입을 열어 자기의 생일을 저주하며
  2. 부르짖었다.
  3. 내가 태어난 날이여, 차라리 사라져버려라. 사내아이를 배었다고 하던 그 밤도 사라져버려라.
  4. 그 날이여, 어둠에 뒤덮여 위에서 하느님이 찾지도 않고 아예 동트지도 마라.
  5. 칠흑 같은 어둠이 그 날을 차지하여 구름으로 덮고 해는 그 빛을 잃게 하여 그 날을 공포 속에 몰아넣어라.
  1. That night--may thick darkness seize it; may it not be included among the days of the year nor be entered in any of the months.
  2. May that night be barren; may no shout of joy be heard in it.
  3. May those who curse days curse that day, those who are ready to rouse Leviathan.
  4. May its morning stars become dark; may it wait for daylight in vain and not see the first rays of dawn,
  5. for it did not shut the doors of the womb on me to hide trouble from my eyes.
  1. 그 밤은 흑암에 빠져 한 해의 나날에 끼이지도 말고 다달의 계수에도 들지 마라.
  2. 아, 아무도 잉태할 수 없어 환성을 잃은 밤이 되어라.
  3. 날을 저주하는 자들아, 레비아단을 깨울 수 있는 자들아, 그 밤을 저주하여라.
  4. 그 밤엔 새벽 별들도 빛을 잃고 기다리는 빛도 나타나지 말고 새벽 햇살도 아예 퍼지지 마라.
  5. 나의 모태가 그 문을 닫지 않아 내 눈이 마침내 고난을 보게 되었구나.
  1. "Why did I not perish at birth, and die as I came from the womb?
  2. Why were there knees to receive me and breasts that I might be nursed?
  3. For now I would be lying down in peace; I would be asleep and at rest
  4. with kings and counselors of the earth, who built for themselves places now lying in ruins,
  5. with rulers who had gold, who filled their houses with silver.
  1. 내가 어찌하여 모태에서 죽지 아니하였으며 나오면서 숨지지 아니하였는가?
  2. 어찌하여 나를 받을 무릎이 있었고 어찌하여 내가 빨 젖이 있었던가?
  3. 나 지금 누워서 안식을 누릴 터인데. 잠들어 쉬고 있을 터인데.
  4. 저 허물어진 성터에 궁궐을 세웠던 지상의 왕들과 고관들과 나란히!
  5. 황금을 자랑하고 은으로 집을 채웠던 성주들과 나란히!
  1. Or why was I not hidden in the ground like a stillborn child, like an infant who never saw the light of day?
  2. There the wicked cease from turmoil, and there the weary are at rest.
  3. Captives also enjoy their ease; they no longer hear the slave driver's shout.
  4. The small and the great are there, and the slave is freed from his master.
  5. "Why is light given to those in misery, and life to the bitter of soul,
  1. 나는 어찌하여 낙태되어 묻힌 핏덩이가 되지 못하였는가? 빛도 보지 못한 벌거숭이가 되지 못하였는가?
  2. 그 곳은 악당들이 설치지 못하고 삶에 지친 자들도 쉴 수 있는 곳,
  3. 포로들도 함께 안식을 누릴 수 있고 노예를 부리는 자들의 욕설도 들리지 않는 곳,
  4. 낮은 자와 높은 자의 구별이 없고 종들이 주인의 손아귀에서 풀려나는 곳.
  5. 그런데 어찌하여 고달픈 자에게 빛을 주시고 괴로운 자에게 생명을 주시는가?
  1. to those who long for death that does not come, who search for it more than for hidden treasure,
  2. who are filled with gladness and rejoice when they reach the grave?
  3. Why is life given to a man whose way is hidden, whom God has hedged in?
  4. For sighing comes to me instead of food; my groans pour out like water.
  5. What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me.
  1. 죽고 싶지만 죽을 수조차 없어 보물을 찾듯 파헤치다가
  2. 묘지의 돌만 보여도 반갑고 무덤이라도 만나면 기뻐 소리친다!
  3. 빠져 나갈 길은 앞뒤로 막히고 하느님께 영락없이 갇힌 몸,
  4. 나 이제 한숨이나 삼키고 흐느낌이나 마시리니
  5. 두려워하여 떨던 것이 들이닥쳤고 무서워하던 것이 마침내 오고야 말았다.
  1. I have no peace, no quietness; I have no rest, but only turmoil."
  1. 평화, 평안, 안식은 간 곳이 없고 두려움만이 끝없이 밀려오는구나.
