	창세기 34:1-35:29 야곱의 딸 디나가 세겜에게 추행당하고 그의 구혼을 받았다. 이에 노한 야곱의 아들들은 그들을 속여 세겜의 모든 남자들이 할례를 받게 한 후, 그들이 고통할 때 그들을 모두 죽이고 성을 약탈했다. 야곱이 하나님의 명령에 따라 벧엘로 올라가서 단을 쌓자 하나님께서는 그에게 땅과 자손의 복을 약속하셨다. 그 후 라헬은 베냐민을 낳다가 죽어 장사되었고, 이삭도 180세에 죽어 장사되었다.

	세겜 사건(34:1-34:31)

Now Dinah, the daughter Leah had borne to Jacob, went out to visit the women of the land.

When Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, the ruler of that area, saw her, he took her and violated her.

His heart was drawn to Dinah daughter of Jacob, and he loved the girl and spoke tenderly to her.

And Shechem said to his father Hamor, "Get me this girl as my wife."

When Jacob heard that his daughter Dinah had been defiled, his sons were in the fields with his livestock; so he kept quiet about it until they came home.

레아가 낳은 야곱의 딸 디나가 어느 날 그 땅 여자들을 방문하러 나갔는데

히위 사람 하몰의 아들이며 그 지역 추장인 세겜이 그녀를 보고 끌고 가서 강간하였다.

그러나 그의 마음이 야곱의 딸 디나에게 깊이 끌려 그녀를 사랑하며 부드러운 말로 그녀를 위로하고

자기 아버지 하몰에게 '이 여자를 내 아내로 맞게 해 주십시오' 라고 하였다.

야곱은 자기 딸 디나가 강간을 당했다는 말을 들었으나 자기 아들들이 들에서 양을 치고 있었으므로 그들이 돌아올 때까지는 침묵을 지키기로 하였다.

Then Shechem's father Hamor went out to talk with Jacob.

Now Jacob's sons had come in from the fields as soon as they heard what had happened. They were filled with grief and fury, because Shechem had done a disgraceful thing in Israel by lying with Jacob's daughter--a thing that should not be done.

But Hamor said to them, "My son Shechem has his heart set on your daughter. Please give her to him as his wife.

Intermarry with us; give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.

You can settle among us; the land is open to you. Live in it, trade in it, and acquire property in it."

세겜의 아버지 하몰이 와서 야곱과 말하고 있을 때

마침 야곱의 아들들이 들에서 돌아와 그 일을 듣게 되었다. 그들은 세겜이 해서는 안 될 그런 못된 짓을 하여 이스라엘 사람을 욕되게 했다는데 대해 놀라움과 분노를 금치 못하였다.

그러나 하몰은 야곱에게 이렇게 말하였다 '내 아들 세겜이 당신의 딸을 마음에 두고 연모하고 있으니 그녀와 결혼하게 해 주십시오.

우리와 서로 혼인 동맹을 맺어 당신들의 딸을 우리에게 주고 우리 딸을 당신들이 데려가시오.

당신들은 우리 땅에 정착하여 어디든지 원하는 곳에 살 수 있고 마음대로 매매하며 재산을 소유할 수도 있습니다'

Then Shechem said to Dinah's father and brothers, "Let me find favor in your eyes, and I will give you whatever you ask.

Make the price for the bride and the gift I am to bring as great as you like, and I'll pay whatever you ask me. Only give me the girl as my wife."

Because their sister Dinah had been defiled, Jacob's sons replied deceitfully as they spoke to Shechem and his father Hamor.

They said to them, "We can't do such a thing; we can't give our sister to a man who is not circumcised. That would be a disgrace to us.

We will give our consent to you on one condition only: that you become like us by circumcising all your males.

그러자 세겜도 디나의 아버지와 그녀의 남자 형제들에게 이렇게 말하였다 '나에게 호의를 베풀어 주십시오. 당신들이 요구하는 것은 무엇이든지 주겠습니다.

당신들이 원하는 예물을 말하십시오. 만일 이 처녀만 내 아내로 주신다면 당신들이 그 어떤 것을 요구해도 내가 다 드리겠습니다'

야곱의 아들들은 세겜이 자기들의 누이 디나를 더럽혔으므로 세겜과 하몰을 속여

이렇게 대답하였다. '우리는 그렇게 할 수 없소. 할례받지 않은 사람에게 우리 누이를 줄 수 없단 말이오. 그렇게 하는 것은 우리에게 수치가 될 뿐이오.

하지만 당신들이 우리 조건에 응한다면 우리가 당신들의 요구를 들어주겠소. 당신들도 우리처럼 모든 남자들의 포피를 베어 할례를 행하시오.

Then we will give you our daughters and take your daughters for ourselves. We'll settle among you and become one people with you.

But if you will not agree to be circumcised, we'll take our sister and go."

Their proposal seemed good to Hamor and his son Shechem.

The young man, who was the most honored of all his father's household, lost no time in doing what they said, because he was delighted with Jacob's daughter.

So Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their city to speak to their fellow townsmen.

그러면 우리가 당신들에게 우리 딸을 주고 당신들의 딸을 우리 아내로 맞아 우리가 당신들과 함께 살며 당신들과 한 민족이 될 것이오.

그러나 만일 당신들이 우리 말대로 할례를 받지 않으면 우리는 우리 누이를 데리고 가겠소'

하몰과 그의 아들 세겜은 이 조건을 기꺼이 받아들였다.

그리고 자기 집안에서 가장 중요한 인물인 세겜은 그 조건을 이행하는 데 지체하지 않았다. 이것은 그가 야곱의 딸을 사랑하였기 때문이었다.

그래서 하몰과 그의 아들 세겜은 성문 집회 장소로 가서 그 곳에 모인 주민들에게 이렇게 말하였다.

"These men are friendly toward us," they said. "Let them live in our land and trade in it; the land has plenty of room for them. We can marry their daughters and they can marry ours.

But the men will consent to live with us as one people only on the condition that our males be circumcised, as they themselves are.

Won't their livestock, their property and all their other animals become ours? So let us give our consent to them, and they will settle among us."

All the men who went out of the city gate agreed with Hamor and his son Shechem, and every male in the city was circumcised.

Three days later, while all of them were still in pain, two of Jacob's sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, took their swords and attacked the unsuspecting city, killing every male.

'이 사람들은 우리들에게 호의적입니다. 이 땅은 그들이 살기에도 충분하니 그들이 우리 땅에 살면서 매매하도록 합시다. 그러면 우리가 그들과 서로 결혼할 수 있습니다.

그러나 우리도 이 사람들처럼 모든 남자들이 포피를 베어 할례를 받아야만 그들이 우리와 한 민족이 되어 함께 사는 것을 허락할 것입니다.

우리가 이 조건에만 응한다면 그들의 모든 짐승과 재산이 다 우리의 소유가 되지 않겠습니까? 그러니 우리가 그들의 요구대로 하여 그들이 우리와 함께 살도록 합시다'

그러자 모든 주민들은 하몰과 세겜의 말에 동의하여 성 안의 모든 남자들이 다 할례를 받았다.

3일 후에 그들이 아직 고통을 당하고 있을 때 디나의 오빠 시므온과 레위가 칼을 가지고 가서 그 성을 기습하여 모든 남자들을 죽여 버렸다.

They put Hamor and his son Shechem to the sword and took Dinah from Shechem's house and left.

The sons of Jacob came upon the dead bodies and looted the city where their sister had been defiled.

They seized their flocks and herds and donkeys and everything else of theirs in the city and out in the fields.

They carried off all their wealth and all their women and children, taking as plunder everything in the houses.

Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, "You have brought trouble on me by making me a stench to the Canaanites and Perizzites, the people living in this land. We are few in number, and if they join forces against me and attack me, I and my household will be destroyed."

그들은 하몰과 그의 아들 세겜을 칼로 죽이고 디나를 세겜의 집에서 데려왔으며

그 후에 야곱의 여러 아들들이 시체가 있는 곳으로 가서 그들의 누이가 수모를 당한 그 성을 약탈하였다.

이렇게 그들은 양과 소와 나귀와 성과 들에 있는 모든 것을 빼앗고

여자들과 아이들을 다 붙잡아 왔으며 집 안에 있는 모든 것을 약탈해 왔다.

그러자 야곱이 시므온과 레위에게 말하였다. '너희가 내 입장을 난처하게 하였다. 이 땅에 사는 가나안 사람들과 브리스 사람들이 나를 증오할 것이다. 우리는 수가 얼마되지 않는데 만일 그들이 합세하여 공격해 온다면 우리 집안은 망하고 말 것이다'

But they replied, "Should he have treated our sister like a prostitute?"

그러나 그들은 '그가 우리 누이를 창녀처럼 취급해도 괜찮다는 말씀입니까?' 하고 대꾸하였다.

	벧엘로 올라간 야곱(35:1-35:29)

Then God said to Jacob, "Go up to Bethel and settle there, and build an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau."

So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, "Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you, and purify yourselves and change your clothes.

Then come, let us go up to Bethel, where I will build an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and who has been with me wherever I have gone."

So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods they had and the rings in their ears, and Jacob buried them under the oak at Shechem.

Then they set out, and the terror of God fell upon the towns all around them so that no one pursued them.

하나님이 야곱에게 말씀하셨다. '너는 벧엘로 올라가서 거기 정착하여 네가 네 형 에서를 피해 도망하던 때에 너에게 나타났던 나 하나님에게 단을 쌓아라'

그래서 야곱은 가족들과 그리고 자기와 함께 있는 모든 사람들에게 말하였다. '너희는 외국인의 신들을 버리고 자신을 정결하게 하며 의복을 갈아입어라.

자, 일어나 벧엘로 올라가자. 내가 어려움을 당할 때 내 기도를 들어주시고 내가 가는 곳마다 나와 함께 하신 하나님께 내가 거기서 단을 쌓으려고 한다'

그들이 가지고 있던 외국인의 우상과 귀에 달고 있던 고리를 빼어 야곱에게 주자 야곱이 그것들을 세겜 근처에 있는 양수리나무 아래에 묻었다.

그리고서 그들이 그 곳을 떠났으나 하나님에 대한 두려움이 그들 주변의 모든 성에 엄습하므로 그들을 추격하는 자가 아무도 없었다.

Jacob and all the people with him came to Luz (that is, Bethel) in the land of Canaan.

There he built an altar, and he called the place El Bethel, because it was there that God revealed himself to him when he was fleeing from his brother.

Now Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died and was buried under the oak below Bethel. So it was named Allon Bacuth.

After Jacob returned from Paddan Aram, God appeared to him again and blessed him.

God said to him, "Your name is Jacob, but you will no longer be called Jacob; your name will be Israel. " So he named him Israel.

드디어 야곱과 그 일행은 가나안 땅에 루스 곧 벧엘에 도착하였다.

거기서 야곱은 단을 쌓고 그곳을 '엘-벧엘'이라 불렀는데 이것은 그가 형을 피해 도망할 때 하나님이 거기서 그에게 나타나셨기 때문이었다.

이 무렵 리브가의 유모 드보라가 죽어 벧엘 아랫지방 상수리나무 밑에 장사되었으며 그때부터 그 나무 이름을 '알론-바굿'이라 하였다.

야곱이 메소포타미아에서 돌아왔을 때 하나님이 그에게 다시 나타나셔서 그를 축복하시고

'네 이름이 야곱이지만 이제부터는 이스라엘이 될 것이다' 하시며 그를 이스라엘이라고 부르셨다.

And God said to him, "I am God Almighty ; be fruitful and increase in number. A nation and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will come from your body.

The land I gave to Abraham and Isaac I also give to you, and I will give this land to your descendants after you."

Then God went up from him at the place where he had talked with him.

Jacob set up a stone pillar at the place where God had talked with him, and he poured out a drink offering on it; he also poured oil on it.

Jacob called the place where God had talked with him Bethel.

그리고서 하나님은 그에게 말씀하셨다. '나는 전능한 하나님이다. 너는 많은 자녀를 낳고 번성하라 너는 많은 민족의 조상이 될 것이며 네 후손 가운데서 여러 왕들이 나올 것이다

내가 아브라함과 이삭에게 준 땅을 너에게 주고 그 후에는 네 후손들에게 그 땅을 주겠다'

그리고 하나님은 그 곳을 떠나셨다.

그래서 야곱은 하나님이 자기와 말씀하시던 곳에 돌기둥을 세우고 그 위에 포도주와 기름을 부어 성별하고

그 곳을 벧엘이라고 불렀다.

Then they moved on from Bethel. While they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth and had great difficulty.

And as she was having great difficulty in childbirth, the midwife said to her, "Don't be afraid, for you have another son."

As she breathed her last--for she was dying--she named her son Ben-Oni. But his father named him Benjamin.

So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).

Over her tomb Jacob set up a pillar, and to this day that pillar marks Rachel's tomb.

그리고서 그들은 벧엘을 떠나 에브랏으로 이동하고 있었는데 에브랏에 약간 못 미친 곳에서 라헬이 해산할 때가 되어 몹시 고통을 당하고 있었다.

난산으로 그 고통이 더욱 심해지자 산파가 그녀에게 '두려워하지 마세요. 또 아들입니다' 하고 위로하였다.

그러나 라헬은 죽어가고 있었다. 그녀가 숨을 거두면서 자기 아들의 이름을 '벤-오니'라고 지었으나 그의 아버지는 '베냐민'이라고 하였다.

이렇게 해서 라헬은 죽어 에브랏 곧 베들레헴으로 가는 길에 장사되었다.

야곱은 라헬의 묘에 비석을 세웠는데 그 묘비는 오늘날까지도 그 곳에 있다.

Israel moved on again and pitched his tent beyond Migdal Eder.

While Israel was living in that region, Reuben went in and slept with his father's concubine Bilhah, and Israel heard of it. Jacob had twelve sons:

The sons of Leah: Reuben the firstborn of Jacob, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun.

The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.

The sons of Rachel's maidservant Bilhah: Dan and Naphtali.

야곱은 다시 거기서 이동하여 에델 망대 건너편에 천막을 쳤다.

야곱이 그 땅에 살고 있을 때 르우벤이 자기 아버지의 첩 빌하와 정을 통하였고 야곱은 그 일을 듣게 되었다. 야곱의 아들은 열 둘이었다.

레아가 낳은 아들들은 야곱의 장남 르우벤과 그리고 시므온, 레위, 유다, 잇사갈, 스불론이며

라헬이 낳은 아들들은 요셉과 베냐민이고

라헬의 여종 빌하가 낳은 아들들은 단과 납달리이며

The sons of Leah's maidservant Zilpah: Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddan Aram.

Jacob came home to his father Isaac in Mamre, near Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had stayed.

Isaac lived a hundred and eighty years.

Then he breathed his last and died and was gathered to his people, old and full of years. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

레아의 여종 실바가 낳은 아들들은 갓과 아셀이었다. 이들은 다 메소포타미아에서 낳은 야곱의 아들들이었다.

그리고 야곱은 자기 아버지 이삭이 사는 헤브론 곧 기럇-아르바 부근의 마므레에 도착했는데 이 곳은 한때 아브라함이 살던 곳이었다.

이때 이삭의 나이는 180세였다.

그가 나이 많아 노쇠하여 죽자 그의 아들 에서와 야곱이 그를 장사하였다.
