- After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
- There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.
- Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.
- Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters--one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah."
- While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!"

- 엿새 후 예수님은 베드로와 야고보와 그의 형제 요한만을 데리고 높은 산으로 올라가셨다.
- 예수님은 그들이 보는 앞에서 모습이 변하여 얼굴이 해같이 빛나고 옷은 눈부시게 희었다.
- 그런데 갑자기 모세와 엘리야가 나타나 예수님과 이야기하는 것이 보였다.
- 그때 베드로가 예수님께 '주님, 우리가 여기 있는 것이 좋겠습니다. 원하신다면 제가 이 곳에 천막 셋을 세워 주님과 모세와 엘리야를 각각 모시겠습니다.' 하고 말하였다.
- 베드로의 말이 채 끝나기도 전에 빛나는 구름이 그들을 덮고 구름 속에서 '이 사람은 내가 사랑하고 기뻐하는 내 아들이다. 너희는 그의 말을 들어라.' 하는 음성이 들려왔다.

- When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified.
- But Jesus came and touched them. "Get up," he said. "Don't be afraid."
- When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.
- As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, "Don't tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."
- The disciples asked him, "Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?"

- 제자들은 그 음성을 듣고 너무나 무서워 땅에 납작 엎드렸다.
- 그러자 예수님이 가까이 오셔서 제자들을 어루만지며 '무서워 말고 일어나거라.' 하고 말씀하셨다.
- 제자들이 눈을 들고 보니 예수님 외에는 아무도 보이지 않았다.
- 예수님은 제자들과 함께 산에서 내려오시는 길에 '내가 죽었다가 다시 살아날 때까지는 지금 본 것을 아무에게도 말하지 말아라.' 하고 당부하셨다.
- 그때 제자들이 예수님께 '그렇다면 왜 율법학자들은 엘리야가 먼저 와야 한다고 합니까?' 하고 묻자

- Jesus replied, "To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things.
- But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands."
- Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.

- 예수님은 이렇게 대답하셨다. '엘리야가 와서 모든 것을 바로잡을 것이다.
- 그러나 내가 너희에게 말한다. 사실 엘리야가 벌써 왔어도 사람들이 그를 몰라보고 함부로 대하였다. 이와 같이 나도 그들에게 고난을 받을 것이다.'
- 그제서야 제자들은 예수님이 세례 요한에 대하여 말씀하셨다는 것을 깨닫게 되었다.
