느헤미야 5:1-6:19

 성벽 공사가 어렵게 진행되는 동안 백성들 사이에서 취리 행위로 인한 문제가 발생하였고, 백성들은 부르짖어 불평하였다. 이에 느헤미야는 취리 행위를 금지시키고 발생한 문제들을 해결하였다. 또한 대적들은 느헤미야를 죽이려는 음모를 꾸몄으나 실패로 돌아갔다. 성벽 건축은 완료되었다.
  
  가난한 자들을 도움(5:1-5:19)    
 
  1. Now the men and their wives raised a great outcry against their Jewish brothers.
  2. Some were saying, "We and our sons and daughters are numerous; in order for us to eat and stay alive, we must get grain."
  3. Others were saying, "We are mortgaging our fields, our vineyards and our homes to get grain during the famine."
  4. Still others were saying, "We have had to borrow money to pay the king's tax on our fields and vineyards.
  5. Although we are of the same flesh and blood as our countrymen and though our sons are as good as theirs, yet we have to subject our sons and daughters to slavery. Some of our daughters have already been enslaved, but we are powerless, because our fields and our vineyards belong to others."
  1. 얼마 후에 백성들이 자기 아내와 함께 그들의 지도자들에 대하여 불평하기 시작하였다.
  2. 어떤 사람들은 '우리에게는 자녀가 많다. 그러므로 먹고 살기 위해서는 곡식을 구해야 한다.' 하고
  3. 또 어떤 사람들은 '우리는 이 흉년에 밭이나 포도원이나 집이라도 저당잡히고 곡식을 얻어야 할 형편이 되었다.' 하였으며
  4. 또 다른 사람들은 이렇게 말하였다. '우리는 돈을 빌려 밭과 포도원의 토지세를 황제에게 바쳤다.
  5. 그들이나 우리는 다 같은 동족이며 우리 자녀들과 그들의 자녀들도 마찬가지가 아닌가? 그런데도 우리는 우리 자녀들을 종으로 팔아야 할 처지가 되었고 우리 딸 중에 몇은 이미 종으로 팔려 갔으나 우리 밭과 포도원이 남의 것이 되었으므로 몸값을 지불하고 데려올 힘이 없다.'
  1. When I heard their outcry and these charges, I was very angry.
  2. I pondered them in my mind and then accused the nobles and officials. I told them, "You are exacting usury from your own countrymen!" So I called together a large meeting to deal with them
  3. and said: "As far as possible, we have bought back our Jewish brothers who were sold to the Gentiles. Now you are selling your brothers, only for them to be sold back to us!" They kept quiet, because they could find nothing to say.
  4. So I continued, "What you are doing is not right. Shouldn't you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of our Gentile enemies?
  5. I and my brothers and my men are also lending the people money and grain. But let the exacting of usury stop!
  1. 나는 그들이 불평하는 말을 듣고 대단히 화가 났다.
  2. 그래서 나는 신중히 생각한 다음 지도자들과 관리들을 꾸짖으며 '당신들은 당신들의 형제들을 착취하고 있소!' 하고 책망하였다. 그리고서 나는 이 문제를 처리하기 위해 큰 집회를 열고
  3. 지도자들과 관리들에게 이렇게 말하였다. '우리는 최선을 다해서 이방인들에게 팔린 우리 형제 유다 사람들을 도와 포로 생활에서 돌아오게 했는데 지금 여러분은 여러분의 형제들을 팔려고 합니다. 그것도 여러분의 동족에게 말입니다.' 그러자 그들은 할 말이 없는 듯 침묵을 지켰다.
  4. 그때 나는 다시 말을 이었다. '여러분의 소행이 옳지 못합니다. 여러분은 마땅히 하나님을 두려워하고 옳은 일을 해야만 합니다. 그러면 우리 원수인 이방 사람들에게 우리를 비웃을 구실을 주지 않을 것입니다.
  5. 나와 내 형제들과 그리고 나와 함께 있는 사람들도 백성들에게 돈과 곡식을 빌려 주고 있습니다만 이제 그 이자를 받지 않도록 합시다.
  1. Give back to them immediately their fields, vineyards, olive groves and houses, and also the usury you are charging them--the hundredth part of the money, grain, new wine and oil."
  2. "We will give it back," they said. "And we will not demand anything more from them. We will do as you say." Then I summoned the priests and made the nobles and officials take an oath to do what they had promised.
  3. I also shook out the folds of my robe and said, "In this way may God shake out of his house and possessions every man who does not keep this promise. So may such a man be shaken out and emptied!" At this the whole assembly said, "Amen," and praised the LORD. And the people did as they had promised.
  4. Moreover, from the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, until his thirty-second year--twelve years--neither I nor my brothers ate the food allotted to the governor.
  5. But the earlier governors--those preceding me--placed a heavy burden on the people and took forty shekels of silver from them in addition to food and wine. Their assistants also lorded it over the people. But out of reverence for God I did not act like that.
  1. 여러분은 오늘이라도 그들의 밭과 포도원과 감람원과 집을 되돌려 주고 또 여러분이 착취한 돈과 곡식과 새 포도주와 감람기름의 100분의 1을 돌려 주십시오.'
  2. 그러자 그들은 '우리가 당신의 말씀대로 모든 것을 되돌려 주고 아무것도 요구하지 않겠습니다.' 하고 대답하였다. 그래서 나는 제사장들을 불러 지도자들에게 자기들이 약속한 것을 지키겠다는 맹세를 시키도록 하였다.
  3. 그런 다음에 나는 내 옷자락을 털며 '이와 같이 하나님이 이 약속을 지키지 않는 사람들의 집과 재산을 털털 털어 빈털터리가 되게 하실 것입니다.' 하였다. 그러자 모든 군중이 '아멘' 하고 여호와를 찬양하였으며 그 지도자들은 자기들의 약속을 지켰다.
  4. 내가 아르타크셀크세스황제 20년부터 32년까지 12년 동안 유다 총독으로 있으면서 나와 내 형제들은 총독에게 당연히 지급되는 양식을 먹지 않았다.
  5. 그러나 내 이전의 모든 총독들은 백성들에게 많은 부담을 주어 양식과 포도주 외에도 은 456그램을 받았으며 심지어 그들의 종들도 백성들을 괴롭혔다 하지만 나는 하나님을 두려워하여 그렇게 하지 않고
  1. Instead, I devoted myself to the work on this wall. All my men were assembled there for the work; we did not acquire any land.
  2. Furthermore, a hundred and fifty Jews and officials ate at my table, as well as those who came to us from the surrounding nations.
  3. Each day one ox, six choice sheep and some poultry were prepared for me, and every ten days an abundant supply of wine of all kinds. In spite of all this, I never demanded the food allotted to the governor, because the demands were heavy on these people.
  4. Remember me with favor, O my God, for all I have done for these people.
  1. 오히려 성을 재건하는 데 온갖 정력을 쏟았으며 한 치의 땅도 사 놓지 않았다. 그리고 나와 함께 있는 모든 사람들도 성을 재건하는 데 힘쓰도록 하였으며
  2. 또 내 식탁에는 다른 나라에서 온 방문객 외에도 유다 사람 150명의 고정 식사 인원이 있었다.
  3. 그래서 나는 매일 소 한 마리와 살진 양 여섯 마리와 많은 닭을 준비하고 열흘에 한 번씩 각종 포도주를 제공하였다. 이렇게 하면서도 내가 총독이 당연히 받아야 할 양식을 요구하지 않은 것은 백성들의 부담이 너무 큰 것을 알고 있었기 때문이었다.
  4. 그때 나는 이렇게 기도하였다. '나의 하나님이시여, 내가 이 백성을 위해서 행한 모든 일을 기억하시고 나에게 은혜를 베푸소서.'
 
  대적들의 음모(6:1-6:19)    
 
  1. When word came to Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab and the rest of our enemies that I had rebuilt the wall and not a gap was left in it--though up to that time I had not set the doors in the gates-
  2. Sanballat and Geshem sent me this message: "Come, let us meet together in one of the villages on the plain of Ono." But they were scheming to harm me;
  3. so I sent messengers to them with this reply: "I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?"
  4. Four times they sent me the same message, and each time I gave them the same answer.
  5. Then, the fifth time, Sanballat sent his aide to me with the same message, and in his hand was an unsealed letter
  1. 산발랏과 도비야와 아라비아 사람 게셈과 그 밖의 우리 원수들은 우리가 아직 성문의 문짝을 달지 못했지만 성벽 재건 공사를 마치고 수리하지 못한 곳이 없다는 말을 듣게 되었다.
  2. 그때 산발랏과 게셈이 나에게 전갈을 보내 오노 평야의 한 마을에서 만나자고 제의했으나 사실 이것은 나를 해치기 위한 그들의 술책이었다.
  3. 그래서 나는 그들에게 이런 전갈을 보냈다. '나는 중대한 일을 하고 있으므로 내려갈 수가 없소. 내가 무엇 때문에 하던 일을 중단하고 당신들에게 가야 하겠소?'
  4. 그들이 네 번이나 나에게 같은 내용의 전갈을 보냈으나 그때마다 나도 같은 내용의 회답을 보냈다.
  5. 그러자 다섯번째에는 산발랏이 그의 종을 통해 봉하지 않은 편지를 나에게 보냈는데
  1. in which was written: "It is reported among the nations--and Geshem says it is true--that you and the Jews are plotting to revolt, and therefore you are building the wall. Moreover, according to these reports you are about to become their king
  2. and have even appointed prophets to make this proclamation about you in Jerusalem: 'There is a king in Judah!' Now this report will get back to the king; so come, let us confer together."
  3. I sent him this reply: "Nothing like what you are saying is happening; you are just making it up out of your head."
  4. They were all trying to frighten us, thinking, "Their hands will get too weak for the work, and it will not be completed." But I prayed, "Now strengthen my hands."
  5. One day I went to the house of Shemaiah son of Delaiah, the son of Mehetabel, who was shut in at his home. He said, "Let us meet in the house of God, inside the temple, and let us close the temple doors, because men are coming to kill you--by night they are coming to kill you."
  1. 그 내용은 다음과 같았다. '너와 유다 사람들이 반란을 일으키려고 성벽을 재건한다는 소문이 이웃 나라에 파다하게 퍼지고 있으며 게셈도 그것이 사실이라고 말하고 있다 더구나 이 소문에 의하면 네가 왕이 되려고
  2. 몇몇 예언자들을 앞세워 네가 유다 왕이 되었다는 소문을 예루살렘에 퍼뜨리게 했다는 것이다. 황제 폐하께서 이 소문을 곧 듣게 되실 것은 뻔한 일이다. 그러므로 너와 내가 조용히 만나서 이야기하자'
  3. 그래서 나는 그에게 그가 한 말은 사실이 아니며 모두 지어낸 이야기에 불과하다는 회답을 보냈다.
  4. 그들은 나를 위협하며 우리가 지쳐서 더 이상 공사를 진행하지 못할 것이라고 생각했으나 나는 '하나님이시여, 나를 강하게 하소서.' 하고 기도하였다.
  5. 어느 날 나는 므헤다벨의 손자이며 들라야의 아들인 스마야를 찾아갔는데 그는 자기 집 안에 갇혀 있었다. 그때 그는 나에게 '우리가 성소로 들어가서 문을 잠그고 숨어 있어야겠습니다. 틀림없이 그들이 밤에 와서 당신을 죽일 것입니다.' 하였다.
  1. But I said, "Should a man like me run away? Or should one like me go into the temple to save his life? I will not go!"
  2. I realized that God had not sent him, but that he had prophesied against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.
  3. He had been hired to intimidate me so that I would commit a sin by doing this, and then they would give me a bad name to discredit me.
  4. Remember Tobiah and Sanballat, O my God, because of what they have done; remember also the prophetess Noadiah and the rest of the prophets who have been trying to intimidate me.
  5. So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two days.
  1. 그래서 나는 그에게 이렇게 대답하였다. '총독인 내가 어떻게 달아날 수 있으며 나 같은 사람이 목숨을 구하겠다고 어떻게 성소에 들어가 숨을 수 있겠소? 나는 그렇게 하지 않겠소.'
  2. 나는 그때 스마야가 하나님의 말씀을 받은 것이 아니라 도비야와 산발랏에게 뇌물을 받고 나에게 이런 예언을 한 것을 알게 되었다.
  3. 그들이 스마야를 매수하여 나를 위협한 것은 그 일로 나를 범죄하게 하여 내 이름을 더럽히고 나를 비방하기 위해서였다.
  4. 그래서 나는 이렇게 기도하였다. '내 하나님이시여, 도비야와 산발랏이 행한 일과 여자 예언자 노아댜와 그 밖에 나를 두렵게 하려고 한 예언자들을 기억하소서.'
  5. 드디어 성벽 재건 공사는 52일 만인 6월 25일에 끝났다.
  1. When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God.
  2. Also, in those days the nobles of Judah were sending many letters to Tobiah, and replies from Tobiah kept coming to them.
  3. For many in Judah were under oath to him, since he was son-in-law to Shecaniah son of Arah, and his son Jehohanan had married the daughter of Meshullam son of Berekiah.
  4. Moreover, they kept reporting to me his good deeds and then telling him what I said. And Tobiah sent letters to intimidate me.
  1. 그러자 우리의 모든 원수들과 우리 주변의 이방사람들이 이 말을 듣고 두려워 기가 꺾였다. 이것은 이 일이 우리 하나님의 도우심으로 완성된 것임을 그들도 알고 있었기 때문이었다.
  2. 이 기간에 유다 지도자들은 도비야와 많은 서신 교환을 하였다.
  3. 아라의 아들 스가냐는 그의 장인이었고 그의 아들 여호하난은 베레갸의 아들 므술람의 딸과 결혼하였으므로 유다에서 많은 사람들이 그에게 충성할 것을 맹세하였다.
  4. 그리고 백성들은 내 앞에서 도비야의 선한 행위를 말하고 또 내가 한 말을 모두 그에게 보고하였다. 그래서 그는 계속 나에게 편지를 보내 나를 위협하였다.
 
  취리(取利, 5:7)  돈을 빌려 주고 높은 이자를 받음
