	느헤미야 7:1-8:12 느헤미야는 하나니와 하나냐에게 예루살렘 성을 다스리고 지키게 하였다. 그리고 귀환자들의 보계를 얻었다. 이스라엘 백성들이 에스라에게 율법 책 낭독을 요청하였고, 율법을 깨닫게 된 백성들은 하나님께 경배하면서 울며 회개하였다. 느헤미야는 백성들을 위로하면서 하나님의 성일을 기쁨으로 지키게 하였다.

	귀환자 명단(7:1-7:73)

After the wall had been rebuilt and I had set the doors in place, the gatekeepers and the singers and the Levites were appointed.

I put in charge of Jerusalem my brother Hanani, along with Hananiah the commander of the citadel, because he was a man of integrity and feared God more than most men do.

I said to them, "The gates of Jerusalem are not to be opened until the sun is hot. While the gatekeepers are still on duty, have them shut the doors and bar them. Also appoint residents of Jerusalem as guards, some at their posts and some near their own houses."

Now the city was large and spacious, but there were few people in it, and the houses had not yet been rebuilt.

So my God put it into my heart to assemble the nobles, the officials and the common people for registration by families. I found the genealogical record of those who had been the first to return. This is what I found written there:

성벽 건축 공사를 마치고 성문을 단 다음에 나는 성전 문지기와 성가대원과 레위 사람들에게 업무를 할당하고

내 동생 하나니와 요새의 지휘관 하나냐에게 예루살렘을 다스릴 책임을 맡게 하였다. 하나냐는 그 누구보다도 성실하고 하나님을 두려워하는 사람이었다.

그리고 나는 그들에게 해가 높이 떠오를 때까지는 예루살렘 성문을 열지 말며 문지기가 문을 지키고 있을 때 성문을 닫고 빗장을 지르도록 지시하였다. 나는 또 그들에게 예루살렘 주민들 가운데 경계병을 세워 각자 자기 초소와 자기 집앞을 경계하게 하라고 지시하였다.

예루살렘은 크고 넓은 성이었으나 거기에 사는 사람이 많지 않아 아직 집을 많이 짓지 않았다.

그래서 하나님이 내 마음을 감동시키셔서 백성들과 지도자들을 모아 각 집안별로 등록하도록 하셨다. 그때 나는 1차 귀환자들의 명단을 발견했는데 거기에는 이렇게 적혀 있었다.

These are the people of the province who came up from the captivity of the exiles whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had taken captive (they returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own town,

in company with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum and Baanah): The list of the men of Israel:

바빌로니아의 느부갓네살왕에게 포로로 잡혀갔던 수많은 사람들이 예루살렘과 유다와 그들의 각 성으로 돌아왔다.

이들과 함께 온 지도자들은 스룹바벨, 예수아, 느헤미야, 아사랴, 라아먀, 나하마니, 모르드개, 빌산, 미스베렛, 비그왜, 느훔, 바아나였다. 그리고 이 귀환자들의 인원을 각 자손별로 나열하면 다음과 같다

살룸과 아델과 달몬과 악굽과 하디다와 소배의 자손인 성전 문지기 138명이었다.

The temple servants: the descendants of Ziha, Hasupha, Tabbaoth,

Keros, Sia, Padon,

Lebana, Hagaba, Shalmai,

Hanan, Giddel, Gahar,

Reaiah, Rezin, Nekoda,

그리고 성전 봉사자들은 시하, 하수바, 답바옷,

게로스, 시아, 바돈,

르바나, 하가바, 살매,

하난, 깃델, 가할,

르아야, 르신, 느고다,

Gazzam, Uzza, Paseah,

Besai, Meunim, Nephussim,

Bakbuk, Hakupha, Harhur,

Bazluth, Mehida, Harsha,

Barkos, Sisera, Temah,

갓삼, 웃사, 바세아,

베새, 므우님, 느부심,

박북, 하그바, 할훌,

바슬룻, 므히다, 하르사,

바르고스, 시스라, 데마,

Neziah and Hatipha

느시야, 하디바 - 이상 모든 사람들의 자손들이었다.

솔로몬왕 신하들의 자손들 중에서 돌아온 사람들은 소대 자손, 소베렛 자손, 브리다 자손,

야알라 자손, 다르곤 자손, 깃델 자손,

스바댜 자손, 핫딜 자손, 보게렛-하스바임 자손, 아몬 자손들이었다.

이와 같이 성전 봉사자들과 솔로몬왕 신하들의 자손들 중에서 돌아온 사람들은 모두 392명이었다.

The following came up from the towns of Tel Melah, Tel Harsha, Kerub, Addon and Immer, but they could not show that their families were descended from Israel:

the descendants of Delaiah, Tobiah and Nekoda 642

And from among the priests: the descendants of Hobaiah, Hakkoz and Barzillai (a man who had married a daughter of Barzillai the Gileadite and was called by that name).

These searched for their family records, but they could not find them and so were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.

The governor, therefore, ordered them not to eat any of the most sacred food until there should be a priest ministering with the Urim and Thummim.

이때 페르시아의 델-멜라, 델-하르사, 그룹, 앗돈, 임멜 지방에서 예루살렘으로 돌아온 다른 집단도 있었으나 그들이 실제로 이스라엘 자손이라는 확실한 증거가 없었다.

이들은 들라야와 도비야와 느고다 자손들로 모두 642명이었다.

그리고 제사장들 중에서 호바야 자손과 학고스 자손, 그리고 길르앗 사람 바르실래의 딸과 결혼하여 처가집 이름을 딴 바르실래의 자손들도 예루살렘으로 돌아왔는데

그들도 족보에서 그 신원이 밝혀지지 않았다. 그래서 이들은 부정한 자로 취급을 받아 제사장 직분을 수행하지 못했으며

유다 지도자는 제사장이 우림과 둠밈으로 하나님의 판결을 물어 그들이 실제로 제사장인지 아닌지 밝혀낼 때까지는 제사장이 먹는 거룩한 음식을 먹지 말라고 명령하였다.

The whole company numbered 42,360,

besides their 7,337 menservants and maidservants; and they also had 245 men and women singers.

There were 736 horses, 245 mules,

435 camels and 6,720 donkeys.

Some of the heads of the families contributed to the work. The governor gave to the treasury 1,000 drachmas of gold, 50 bowls and 530 garments for priests.

이상과 같이 유다로 돌아온 사람들은 노예 7,337명과 남녀 성가대원 245명 외에 42,360명이었다.

또 그들은 말 736마리, 노새 245마리, 낙타 435마리, 당나귀 6,720마리도 함께 끌고 왔다.

그리고 많은 사람들이 성전을 재건하기 위해서 예물을 바쳤다. 그들의 지도자들이 바친 것은 금 8.4킬로그램과 대접 50개와 제사장복 530벌이었고

Some of the heads of the families gave to the treasury for the work 20,000 drachmas of gold and 2,200 minas of silver.

The total given by the rest of the people was 20,000 drachmas of gold, 2,000 minas of silver and 67 garments for priests.

The priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers and the temple servants, along with certain of the people and the rest of the Israelites, settled in their own towns. When the seventh month came and the Israelites had settled in their towns,

족장들이 바친 것은 금 168킬로그램과 은 약 1,256킬로그램이었으며

그 밖에 백성들이 바친 것은 금 168킬로그램과 은 1.142킬로그램과 제사장복 67벌이었다.

이렇게 해서 제사장, 레위 사람, 성전 문지기, 성가대원, 그 밖에 모든 백성들이 각자 자기 성에 정착하였다.

	율법 낭독(8:1-8:12)

all the people assembled as one man in the square before the Water Gate. They told Ezra the scribe to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded for Israel.

So on the first day of the seventh month Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly, which was made up of men and women and all who were able to understand.

He read it aloud from daybreak till noon as he faced the square before the Water Gate in the presence of the men, women and others who could understand. And all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law.

Ezra the scribe stood on a high wooden platform built for the occasion. Beside him on his right stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah and Maaseiah; and on his left were Pedaiah, Mishael, Malkijah, Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zechariah and Meshullam.

Ezra opened the book. All the people could see him because he was standing above them; and as he opened it, the people all stood up.

7월 1일에 모든 이스라엘 백성들은 일제히 수문 앞 광장에 모여 율법학자 에스라에게 여호와께서 모세를 통해 이스라엘 백성에게 주신 율법책을 가져와 읽어 달라고 하였다.

그래서 제사장 에스라는 듣고 이해할 수 있는 남녀 모든 군중들 앞으로 그 율법책을 가지고 가

그 곳 수문 앞 광장에서 새벽부터 정오까지 그것을 읽어 주었으며 백성들은 모두 귀를 기울이고 주의 깊게 들었다.

그때 에스라는 특별히 마련된 나무 강단 위에 서서 그것을 읽었으며 그 오른쪽에는 맛디댜, 스마, 아나야, 우리아, 힐기야, 마아세야가 서 있었고 그 왼쪽에는 브다야, 미사엘, 말기야, 하숨, 하스밧다나, 스가랴, 므술람이 서 있었다.

모든 사람들이 다 볼 수 있도록 에스라가 강단에 높이 서서 그 책을 폈을 때 백성들은 일제히 일어섰다.

Ezra praised the LORD, the great God; and all the people lifted their hands and responded, "Amen! Amen!" Then they bowed down and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.

The Levites--Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan and Pelaiah--instructed the people in the Law while the people were standing there.

They read from the Book of the Law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning so that the people could understand what was being read.

Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to them all, "This day is sacred to the LORD your God. Do not mourn or weep." For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law.

Nehemiah said, "Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is sacred to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."

에스라가 위대하신 하나님 여호와를 찬양하자 모든 백성들은 손을 들고 '아멘! 아멘!' 하며 응답하였다. 그리고서 그들은 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려 여호와께 경배하였다.

에스라가 그 율법책을 읽을 때 레위 사람 예수아, 바니, 세레뱌, 야민, 악굽, 사브대, 호디야, 마아세야, 그리다, 아사랴, 요사밧, 하난, 블라야는 백성들 가운데 서서 그 뜻을 해석하여 낭독하는 것을 백성들이 이해할 수 있도록 하였다.

백성들이 그 율법의 말씀을 듣고 울기 시작하자 총독인 나 느헤미야와 제사장 에스라와 백성들을 가르치는 레위인들이 그들에게 '오늘은 우리 하나님 여호와께 거룩한 날이므로 슬퍼하거나 울지 마시오.' 하였다.

그리고 나 느헤미야는 다시 그들에게 이렇게 말하였다. '여러분은 집으로 가서 잔치를 베풀고 마음껏 먹고 마시며 가난한 사람들에게도 나누어 주십시오. 오늘은 여호와께 거룩한 날이므로 슬퍼해서는 안 됩니다. 여호와께서 주시는 기쁨이 여러분의 힘이 될 것입니다.'

The Levites calmed all the people, saying, "Be still, for this is a sacred day. Do not grieve."

Then all the people went away to eat and drink, to send portions of food and to celebrate with great joy, because they now understood the words that had been made known to them.

그리고 레위 사람들도 백성들을 진정시키며 거룩한 날에 슬퍼하지 말라고 하자

모든 백성들은 집으로 가서 음식을 만들어 가난한 사람들과 함께 먹고 마시며 즐거워하였다. 이것은 그들이 들은 율법의 말씀을 깨달았기 때문이었다.
