창세기 18:1-19:38

 부지중에 아브라함은 인간의 모습으로 나타나신 하나님을 극진히 대접했다. 하나님께서는 그에게 아들이 있을 것과 소돔의 죄악을 심판하실 것을 말씀하셨다. 아브라함은 소돔을 위해 여섯 차례에 걸친 간구 끝에 의인 열 명만 있으면 멸망받지 않도록 하였으나 소돔은 멸망당하고 말았다. 천사들의 재촉으로 롯은 가족과 함께 성을 빠져 나왔지만 그의 아내는 소금 기둥이 되었다. 그 후 롯의 두 딸은 롯과 동침하여 자손을 낳았다.
  
  소돔을 위한 간구(18:1-18:33)    
 
  1. The LORD appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day.
  2. Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground.
  3. He said, "If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass your servant by.
  4. Let a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet and rest under this tree.
  5. Let me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on your way--now that you have come to your servant." "Very well," they answered, "do as you say."
  1. 주님께서 마므레의 상수리나무 곁에서 아브라함에게 나타나셨다. 한창 더운 대낮에, 아브라함은 자기의 장막 어귀에 앉아 있었다.
  2. 아브라함이 고개를 들고 보니, 웬 사람 셋이 자기의 맞은쪽에 서 있었다. 그는 그들을 보자, 장막 어귀에서 달려나가서, 그들을 맞이하며, 땅에 엎드려서 절을 하였다.

  4. 물을 좀 가져 오라고 하셔서, 발을 씻으시고, 이 나무 아래에서 쉬시기 바랍니다.
  5. 손님들께서 잡수실 것을, 제가 조금 가져 오겠습니다. 이렇게 이 종에게로 오셨으니, 좀 잡수시고, 기분이 상쾌해진 다음에 길을 떠나시기 바랍니다." 그들이 대답하였다. "좋습니다. 정 그렇게 하라고 하시면, 사양하지 않겠습니다."
  1. So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah. "Quick," he said, "get three seahs of fine flour and knead it and bake some bread."
  2. Then he ran to the herd and selected a choice, tender calf and gave it to a servant, who hurried to prepare it.
  3. He then brought some curds and milk and the calf that had been prepared, and set these before them. While they ate, he stood near them under a tree.
  4. "Where is your wife Sarah?" they asked him. "There, in the tent," he said.
  5. Then the LORD said, "I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son." Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him.
  1. 아브라함이 장막 안으로 뛰어 들어가서, 사라에게 말하였다. "빨리 고운 밀가루 세 스아를 가지고 와서, 반죽을 하여 빵을 좀 구우시오."
  2. 아브라함이 집짐승 떼가 있는 데로 달려가서, 기름진 좋은 송아지 한 마리를 끌어다가, 하인에게 주니, 하인이 재빨리 그것을 잡아서 요리하였다.
  3. 아브라함이 엉긴 젖과 우유와 하인이 만든 송아지 요리를 나그네들 앞에 차려 놓았다. 그들이 나무 아래에서 먹는 동안에, 아브라함은 서서, 시중을 들었다.
  4. 그들이 아브라함에게 물었다. "댁의 부인 사라는 어디에 있습니까?" 아브라함이 대답하였다. "장막 안에 있습니다."
  5. 그 때에 주님께서 말씀하셨다. "다음 해 이맘때에, 내가 반드시 너를 다시 찾아오겠다. 그 때에 너의 아내 사라에게 아들이 있을 것이다." 사라는, 아브라함이 등지고 서 있는 장막 어귀에서 이 말을 들었다.
  1. Abraham and Sarah were already old and well advanced in years, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing.
  2. So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, "After I am worn out and my master is old, will I now have this pleasure?"
  3. Then the LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Will I really have a child, now that I am old?'
  4. Is anything too hard for the LORD ? I will return to you at the appointed time next year and Sarah will have a son."
  5. Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, "I did not laugh." But he said, "Yes, you did laugh."
  1. 아브라함과 사라는 이미 나이가 많은 노인들이고, 사라는 월경마저 그쳐서, 아이를 낳을 나이가 지난 사람이다.
  2. 그러므로 사라는 "나는 기력이 다 쇠진하였고, 나의 남편도 늙었는데, 어찌 나에게 그런 즐거운 일이 있으랴!" 하고, 속으로 웃으면서 중얼거렸다.
  3. 그 때에 주님께서 아브라함에게 말씀하셨다. "어찌하여 사라가 웃으면서 '이 늙은 나이에 내가 어찌 아들을 낳으랴?' 하느냐?
  4. 나 주가 할 수 없는 일이 있느냐? 다음 해 이맘때에, 내가 다시 너를 찾아오겠다. 그 때에 사라에게 아들이 있을 것이다."
  5. 사라는 두려워서 거짓말을 하였다. "저는 웃지 않았습니다." 그러나 주님께서 말씀하셨다. "아니다. 너는 웃었다."
  1. When the men got up to leave, they looked down toward Sodom, and Abraham walked along with them to see them on their way.
  2. Then the LORD said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?
  3. Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him.
  4. For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, so that the LORD will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him."
  5. Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous
  1. 그 사람들이 떠나려고 일어서서, 소돔이 내려다보이는 데로 갔다. 아브라함은 그들을 바래다 주려고, 함께 얼마쯤 걸었다.
  2. 그 때에 주님께서 말씀하셨다. "내가 앞으로 하려고 하는 일을, 어찌 아브라함에게 숨기랴?
  3. 아브라함은 반드시 크고 강한 나라를 이룰 것이며, 땅 위에 있는 나라마다, 그로 말미암아 복을 받게 될 것이다.
  4. 내가 아브라함을 선택한 것은, 그가 자식들과 자손을 잘 가르쳐서, 나에게 순종하게 하고, 옳고 바른 일을 하도록 가르치라는 뜻에서 한 것이다. 그의 자손이 아브라함에게 배운 대로 하면, 나는 아브라함에게 약속한 대로 다 이루어 주겠다."
  5. 주님께서 또 말씀하셨다. "소돔과 고모라에서 들려 오는 저 울부짖는 소리가 너무 크다. 그 안에서 사람들이 엄청난 죄를 저지르고 있다.
  1. that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know."
  2. The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the LORD.
  3. Then Abraham approached him and said: "Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?
  4. What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it?
  5. Far be it from you to do such a thing--to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?"
  1. 이제 내가 내려가서, 거기에서 벌어지는 모든 악한 일이 정말 나에게까지 들려 온 울부짖음과 같은 것인지를 알아보겠다."
  2. 그 사람들은 거기에서 떠나서 소돔으로 갔으나, 아브라함은 주님 앞에 그대로 서 있었다.
  3. 아브라함이 주님께 가까이 가서 아뢰었다. "주님께서 의인을 기어이 악인과 함께 쓸어 버리시렵니까?
  4. 그 성 안에 의인이 쉰 명이 있으면, 어떻게 하시겠습니까? 그래도 주님께서는 그 성을 기어이 쓸어 버리시렵니까? 의인 쉰 명을 보시고서도, 그 성을 용서하지 않으시렵니까?
  5. 그처럼 의인을 악인과 함께 죽게 하시는 것은, 주님께서 하실 일이 아닙니다. 의인을 악인과 똑같이 보시는 것도, 주님께서 하실 일이 아닌 줄 압니다. 세상을 심판하시는 분께서는 공정하게 판단하셔야 하지 않겠습니까?"
  1. The LORD said, "If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake."
  2. Then Abraham spoke up again: "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes,
  3. what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city because of five people?" "If I find forty-five there," he said, "I will not destroy it."
  4. Once again he spoke to him, "What if only forty are found there?" He said, "For the sake of forty, I will not do it."
  5. Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be found there?" He answered, "I will not do it if I find thirty there."
  1. 주님께서 대답하셨다. "소돔 성에서 내가 의인 쉰 명만을 찾을 수 있으면, 그들을 보아서라도 그 성 전체를 용서하겠다."
  2. 아브라함이 다시 아뢰었다. "티끌이나 재밖에 안 되는 주제에, 제가 주님께 감히 아룁니다.
  3. 의인이 쉰 명에서 다섯이 모자란다고 하면, 어떻게 하시겠습니까? 다섯이 모자란다고, 성 전체를 다 멸하시겠습니까?" 주님께서 대답하셨다. "내가 거기에서 마흔다섯 명만 찾아도, 그 성을 멸하지 않겠다."
  4. 아브라함이 다시 한 번 주님께 아뢰었다. "거기에서 마흔 명만 찾으시면, 어떻게 하시겠습니까?" 주님께서 대답하셨다. "그 마흔 명을 보아서, 내가 그 성을 멸하지 않겠다."
  5. 아브라함이 또 아뢰었다. "주님! 노하지 마시고, 제가 말씀드리는 것을 허락하여 주시기 바랍니다. 거기에서 서른 명만 찾으시면, 어떻게 하시겠습니까?" 주님께서 대답하셨다. "거기에서 서른 명만 찾아도, 내가 그 성을 멸하지 않겠다."
  1. Abraham said, "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?" He said, "For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it."
  2. Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?" He answered, "For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it."
  3. When the LORD had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home.
  1. 아브라함이 다시 아뢰었다. "감히 주님께 아룁니다. 거기에서 스무 명만 찾으시면, 어떻게 하시겠습니까?" 주님께서 대답하셨다. "스무 명을 보아서라도, 내가 그 성을 멸하지 않겠다."
  2. 아브라함이 또 아뢰었다. "주님! 노하지 마시고, 제가 한 번만 더 말씀드리게 허락하여 주시기 바랍니다. 거기에서 열 명만 찾으시면, 어떻게 하시겠습니까?" 주님께서 대답하셨다. "열 명을 보아서라도, 내가 그 성을 멸하지 않겠다."
  3. 주님께서는 아브라함과 말씀을 마치신 뒤에 곧 가시고, 아브라함도 자기가 사는 곳으로 돌아갔다.
 
  소돔과 고모라의 멸망(19:1-19:38)    
 
  1. The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground.
  2. "My lords," he said, "please turn aside to your servant's house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning." "No," they answered, "we will spend the night in the square."
  3. But he insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast, and they ate.
  4. Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom--both young and old--surrounded the house.
  5. They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."
  1. 저녁때에 두 천사가 소돔에 이르렀다. 롯이 소돔 성 어귀에 앉아 있다가, 그들을 보고 일어나서 맞으며, 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려 청하였다.
  2. "두 분께서는 가시는 길을 멈추시고, 이 종의 집으로 오셔서, 발을 씻고, 하룻밤 머무르시기 바랍니다. 내일 아침에 일찍 일어나셔서, 길을 떠나시기 바랍니다." 그들이 대답하였다. "아닙니다. 우리는 그냥 길에서 하룻밤을 묵을 생각입니다."
  3. 그러나 롯이 간절히 권하므로, 마침내 그들이 롯을 따라서 집으로 들어갔다. 롯이 그들에게, 누룩 넣지 않은 빵을 구워서 상을 차려 주니, 그들은 롯이 차려 준 것을 먹었다.
  4. 그들이 잠자리에 들기 전에, 소돔 성 각 마을에서, 젊은이 노인 할 것 없이 모든 남자가 몰려와서, 그 집을 둘러쌌다.

  1. Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him
  2. and said, "No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing.
  3. Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don't do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof."
  4. "Get out of our way," they replied. And they said, "This fellow came here as an alien, and now he wants to play the judge! We'll treat you worse than them." They kept bringing pressure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door.
  5. But the men inside reached out and pulled Lot back into the house and shut the door.
  1. 롯은 그 남자들을 만나려고 바깥으로 나가서는, 뒤로 문을 걸어 잠그고,
  2. 그들을 타일렀다. "여보게들, 제발 이러지 말게. 이건 악한 짓일세.
  3. 이것 보게, 나에게 남자를 알지 못하는 두 딸이 있네. 그 아이들을 자네들에게 줄 터이니, 그 아이들을 자네들 좋을 대로 하게. 그러나 이 남자들은 나의 집에 보호받으러 온 손님들이니까, 그들에게는 아무 일도 저지르지 말게."
  4. 그러자 소돔의 남자들이 롯에게 비켜서라고 소리를 지르고 나서 "이 사람이, 자기도 나그네살이를 하는 주제에, 우리에게 재판관 행세를 하려고 하는구나. 어디, 그들보다 당신이 먼저 혼 좀 나 보시오" 하면서, 롯에게 달려들어 밀치고, 대문을 부수려고 하였다.
  5. 안에 있는 두 사람이, 손을 내밀어 롯을 안으로 끌어들인 다음에, 문을 닫아걸고,
  1. Then they struck the men who were at the door of the house, young and old, with blindness so that they could not find the door.
  2. The two men said to Lot, "Do you have anyone else here--sons-in-law, sons or daughters, or anyone else in the city who belongs to you? Get them out of here,
  3. because we are going to destroy this place. The outcry to the LORD against its people is so great that he has sent us to destroy it."
  4. So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters. He said, "Hurry and get out of this place, because the LORD is about to destroy the city!" But his sons-in-law thought he was joking.
  5. With the coming of dawn, the angels urged Lot, saying, "Hurry! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away when the city is punished."
  1. 그 집 대문 앞에 모여든 남자들을 젊은이 노인 할 것 없이 모두 쳐서, 그들의 눈을 어둡게 하여, 대문을 찾지 못하게 하였다.
  2. 그 두 사람이 롯에게 말하였다. "식구들이 여기에 더 있습니까? 사위들이나, 아들들이나, 딸들이나, 딸린 가족들이 이 성 안에 더 있습니까? 그들을 다 성 바깥으로 데리고 나가십시오.
  3. 우리는 지금 이 곳을 멸하려고 합니다. 이 성 안에 있는 사람들을 규탄하는 크나큰 울부짖음이 주님 앞에 이르렀으므로, 주님께서 소돔을 멸하시려고 우리를 보내셨습니다."
  4. 롯이 나가서, 자기 딸들과 약혼한 사윗감들에게 이 사실을 알렸다. 롯이 그들에게 말하였다. "서두르게. 이 성을 빠져 나가야 하네. 주님께서 이 성을 곧 멸하실 걸세." 그러나 그의 사윗감들은 그가 농담을 한다고 생각하였다.
  5. 동틀 무렵에 천사들이 롯을 재촉하여 말하였다. "서두르시오. 여기에 있는 부인과 두 딸을 데리고, 여기를 떠나시오. 꾸물거리고 있다가는, 이 성이 벌을 받을 때에, 함께 죽고 말 것이오."
  1. When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the LORD was merciful to them.
  2. As soon as they had brought them out, one of them said, "Flee for your lives! Don't look back, and don't stop anywhere in the plain! Flee to the mountains or you will be swept away!"
  3. But Lot said to them, "No, my lords, please!
  4. Your servant has found favor in your eyes, and you have shown great kindness to me in sparing my life. But I can't flee to the mountains; this disaster will overtake me, and I'll die.
  5. Look, here is a town near enough to run to, and it is small. Let me flee to it--it is very small, isn't it? Then my life will be spared."
  1. 그런데도 롯이 꾸물거리자, 그 두 사람은 롯과 그의 아내와 두 딸의 손을 잡아끌어서, 성 바깥으로 안전하게 대피시켰다. 주님께서 롯의 가족에게 자비를 베푸신 것이다.
  2. 그 두 사람이 롯의 가족을 성 바깥으로 이끌어내자마자, 그 가운데 한 사람이 롯의 가족에게 말하였다. "어서 피하여 목숨을 건지시오. 뒤를 돌아보거나, 들에 머무르거나 하지 말고, 저 산으로 도피하시오. 그렇게 하지 않으면, 죽고 말 것이오."
  3. 이 때에 롯이 그들에게 말하였다. "다른 길을 말씀해 주시기 바랍니다.
  4. 두 분께서는 이 종을 좋게 보시고, 저에게 크나큰 은혜를 베푸셔서, 저의 목숨을 구해 주셨습니다. 그러나 제가 저 산까지 도피해 가다가는 이 재난을 피하지 못하고, 죽게 될까 두렵습니다.
  5. 보십시오, 저기 작은 성이 하나 있습니다. 저 성이면 가까워서 피할 만합니다. 그러니, 그리로 피하게 하여 주십시오. 아주 작은 성이 아닙니까? 거기로 가면, 제 목숨이 안전할 것입니다."
  1. He said to him, "Very well, I will grant this request too; I will not overthrow the town you speak of.
  2. But flee there quickly, because I cannot do anything until you reach it." (That is why the town was called Zoar. )
  3. By the time Lot reached Zoar, the sun had risen over the land.
  4. Then the LORD rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah--from the LORD out of the heavens.
  5. Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, including all those living in the cities--and also the vegetation in the land.
  1. 그 사람이 롯에게 말하였다. "좋소. 내가 그 청을 들어주겠소. 저 성은 멸하지 않겠소.
  2. 당신네가 거기에 이르기까지는, 내가 아무 일도 하지 않을 터이니, 빨리 그리로 가시오." 롯이 그 성을 '작다'고 하였으므로, 사람들은 그 성의 이름을 소알이라고 하였다.
  3. 롯이 소알에 이르렀을 때에, 해가 떠올라서 땅을 비췄다.
  4. 주님께서 하늘 곧 주님께서 계신 곳으로부터, 소돔과 고모라에 유황과 불을 소나기처럼 퍼 부으셨다.
  5. 주님께서는 그 두 성과, 성 안에 사는 모든 사람과, 넓은 들과, 땅에 심은 채소를 다 엎어 멸하셨다.
  1. But Lot's wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.
  2. Early the next morning Abraham got up and returned to the place where he had stood before the LORD.
  3. He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, toward all the land of the plain, and he saw dense smoke rising from the land, like smoke from a furnace.
  4. So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived.
  5. Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave.
  1. 롯의 아내는 뒤를 돌아보았으므로, 소금 기둥이 되었다.
  2. 다음날 아침에 아브라함이 일찍 일어나서, 주님을 모시고 서 있던 그 곳에 이르러서,

  4. 하나님은, 들에 있는 성들을 멸하실 때에, 아브라함을 기억하셨다. 그래서 하나님은, 롯이 살던 그 성들을 재앙으로 뒤엎으실 때에, 롯을 그 재앙에서 건져 주신 것이다.
  5. 롯은 소알에 사는 것이 두려워서, 두 딸을 데리고 소알을 떠나, 산으로 들어가서, 숨어서 살았다. 롯은 두 딸들과 함께 같은 굴에서 살았다.
  1. One day the older daughter said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is no man around here to lie with us, as is the custom all over the earth.
  2. Let's get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father."
  3. That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.
  4. The next day the older daughter said to the younger, "Last night I lay with my father. Let's get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him so we can preserve our family line through our father."
  5. So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went and lay with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.
  1. 하루는 큰 딸이 작은 딸에게 말하였다. "우리 아버지는 늙으셨고, 아무리 보아도 이 땅에는 세상 풍속대로 우리가 결혼할 남자가 없다.
  2. 그러니 우리가 아버지께 술을 대접하여 취하시게 한 뒤에, 아버지 자리에 들어가서, 아버지에게서 씨를 받도록 하자."
  3. 그 날 밤에 두 딸은 아버지에게 술을 대접하여 취하게 한 뒤에, 큰 딸이 아버지 자리에 들어가서 누웠다. 그러나 아버지는, 큰 딸이 와서 누웠다가 일어난 것을 전혀 알아차리지 못하였다.
  4. 이튿날, 큰 딸이 작은 딸에게 말하였다. "어젯밤에는 내가 우리 아버지와 함께 누웠다. 오늘 밤에도 우리가 아버지께 술을 대접하여 취하시게 하자. 그리고 이번에는 네가 아버지 자리에 들어가서, 아버지에게서 씨를 받아라."
  5. 그래서 그 날 밤에도 두 딸은 아버지에게 술을 대접하여 취하게 하였고, 이번에는 작은 딸이 아버지 자리에 들어가 누웠다. 그러나 이번에도 그는, 작은 딸이 와서 누웠다가 일어난 것을 전혀 알아차리지 못하였다.
  1. So both of Lot's daughters became pregnant by their father.
  2. The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab ; he is the father of the Moabites of today.
  3. The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi ; he is the father of the Ammonites of today.
  1. 롯의 두 딸이 드디어 아버지의 아이를 가지게 되었다.
