창세기 37:1-38:30

 아버지의 사랑을 독차지하고 두 번에 걸친 자신의 꿈 이야기를 자랑하는 요셉을 시기하고 질투한 형들이 음모로 꾸며 요셉을 종으로 팔았다. 한편 세 아들을 둔 유다는 야웨 앞에서 행위가 악한 장자와 둘째 아들을 잃었고, 맏며느리 다말은 장성한 셋째 아들을 통해서도 후사를 잇지 못하게 되자 꾀를 내어 시부인 유다와 동침하여 베레스와 세라를 낳았다.
  
  요셉의 꿈(37:1-37:36)    
 
  1. Jacob lived in the land where his father had stayed, the land of Canaan.
  2. This is the account of Jacob. Joseph, a young man of seventeen, was tending the flocks with his brothers, the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives, and he brought their father a bad report about them.
  3. Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made a richly ornamented robe for him.
  4. When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him.
  5. Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more.
  1. 야곱은 자기 아버지가 몸붙여 살던 땅 곧 가나안 땅에서 살았다.
  2. 야곱의 역사는 이러하다. 열일곱 살 된 소년 요셉이 아버지의 첩들인 빌하와 실바가 낳은 형들과 함께 양을 치는데, 요셉은 형들의 허물을 아버지에게 일러바치곤 하였다.
  3. 이스라엘은 늘그막에 요셉을 얻었으므로, 다른 아들들보다 요셉을 더 사랑하여서, 그에게 화려한 옷을 지어서 입혔다.
  4. 형들은 아버지가 그를 자기들보다 더 사랑하는 것을 보고서 요셉을 미워하며, 그에게 말 한 마디도 다정스럽게 하는 법이 없었다.
  5. 한 번은 요셉이 꿈을 꾸고서 그것을 형들에게 말한 일이 있는데, 그 일이 있은 뒤로부터 형들은 그를 더욱더 미워하였다.
  1. He said to them, "Listen to this dream I had:
  2. We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it."
  3. His brothers said to him, "Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?" And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said.
  4. Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. "Listen," he said, "I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me."
  5. When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, "What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?"
  1. 요셉이 형들에게 말하였다. "내가 꾼 꿈 이야기를 한 번 들어 보셔요.
  2. 우리가 밭에서 곡식단을 묶고 있었어요. 그런데 갑자기 내가 묶은 단이 우뚝 일어서고, 형들의 단이 나의 단을 둘러서서 절을 하였어요."
  3. 형들이 그에게 말하였다. "네가 우리의 왕이라도 될 성싶으냐? 정말로 네가 우리를 다스릴 참이냐?" 형들은 그의 꿈과 그가 한 말 때문에 그를 더욱더 미워하였다.
  4. 얼마 뒤에 그는 또 다른 꿈을 꾸고, 그것을 형들에게 말하였다. "들어 보셔요. 또 꿈을 꾸었어요. 이번에는 해와 달과 별 열한 개가 나에게 절을 했어요."

  1. His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.
  2. Now his brothers had gone to graze their father's flocks near Shechem,
  3. and Israel said to Joseph, "As you know, your brothers are grazing the flocks near Shechem. Come, I am going to send you to them." "Very well," he replied.
  4. So he said to him, "Go and see if all is well with your brothers and with the flocks, and bring word back to me." Then he sent him off from the Valley of Hebron. When Joseph arrived at Shechem,
  5. a man found him wandering around in the fields and asked him, "What are you looking for?"

  1. He replied, "I'm looking for my brothers. Can you tell me where they are grazing their flocks?"
  2. "They have moved on from here," the man answered. "I heard them say, 'Let's go to Dothan.' " So Joseph went after his brothers and found them near Dothan.
  3. But they saw him in the distance, and before he reached them, they plotted to kill him.
  4. "Here comes that dreamer!" they said to each other.
  5. "Come now, let's kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we'll see what comes of his dreams."
  1. 요셉이 대답하였다. "형들을 찾습니다. 우리 형들이 어디에서 양을 치고 있는지, 나에게 일러 주시겠습니까?"
  2. 그 사람이 대답하였다. "너의 형들은 여기에서 떠났다. '도단으로 가자'고 하는 말을 내가 들었다." 그래서 요셉은 형들을 뒤따라 가서, 도단 근처에서 형들이 있는 곳을 알아냈다.

  1. When Reuben heard this, he tried to rescue him from their hands. "Let's not take his life," he said.
  2. "Don't shed any blood. Throw him into this cistern here in the desert, but don't lay a hand on him." Reuben said this to rescue him from them and take him back to his father.
  3. So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe--the richly ornamented robe he was wearing-
  4. and they took him and threw him into the cistern. Now the cistern was empty; there was no water in it.
  5. As they sat down to eat their meal, they looked up and saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead. Their camels were loaded with spices, balm and myrrh, and they were on their way to take them down to Egypt.

  1. Judah said to his brothers, "What will we gain if we kill our brother and cover up his blood?
  2. Come, let's sell him to the Ishmaelites and not lay our hands on him; after all, he is our brother, our own flesh and blood." His brothers agreed.
  3. So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt.
  4. When Reuben returned to the cistern and saw that Joseph was not there, he tore his clothes.
  5. He went back to his brothers and said, "The boy isn't there! Where can I turn now?"
  1. 유다가 형제들에게 말하였다. "우리가 동생을 죽이고 그 아이의 피를 덮는다고 해서, 우리가 얻는 것이 무엇이냐?

  4. 르우벤이 구덩이로 돌아와 보니, 요셉이 거기에 없었다. 그는 슬픈 나머지 옷을 찢고서,

  1. Then they got Joseph's robe, slaughtered a goat and dipped the robe in the blood.
  2. They took the ornamented robe back to their father and said, "We found this. Examine it to see whether it is your son's robe."
  3. He recognized it and said, "It is my son's robe! Some ferocious animal has devoured him. Joseph has surely been torn to pieces."
  4. Then Jacob tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and mourned for his son many days.
  5. All his sons and daughters came to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. "No," he said, "in mourning will I go down to the grave to my son." So his father wept for him.
  1. 그들은 숫염소 한 마리를 죽이고, 요셉의 옷을 가지고 가서, 거기에 피를 묻혔다.

  1. Meanwhile, the Midianites sold Joseph in Egypt to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh's officials, the captain of the guard.
  1. 그리고 미디안 사람들은 이집트에서 요셉을 보디발이라는 사람에게 팔았다. 그는 바로의 신하로서, 경호대장으로 있는 사람이었다.
 
  유다와 다말의 근친 상간(38:1-38:30)    
 
  1. At that time, Judah left his brothers and went down to stay with a man of Adullam named Hirah.
  2. There Judah met the daughter of a Canaanite man named Shua. He married her and lay with her;
  3. she became pregnant and gave birth to a son, who was named Er.
  4. She conceived again and gave birth to a son and named him Onan.
  5. She gave birth to still another son and named him Shelah. It was at Kezib that she gave birth to him.
  1. 그 무렵에 유다는 형제들에게서 떨어져 나가, 히라라고 하는 아둘람 사람이 사는 곳으로 가서, 그와 함께 살았다.
  2. 유다는 거기에서 가나안 사람 수아라고 하는 사람의 딸을 만나서 결혼하고, 아내와 동침하였다.
  3. 그가 임신하여 아들을 낳으니, 유다가 그 아들 이름을 에르라고 하였다.
  4. 그가 또 임신하여 아들을 낳았다. 이번에는 아이의 어머니가 그 아들 이름을 오난이라고 하였다.
  5. 그가 또다시 아들을 낳고, 이름을 셀라라고 하였다. 그가 셀라를 낳은 곳은 거십이다.
  1. Judah got a wife for Er, his firstborn, and her name was Tamar.
  2. But Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the LORD's sight; so the LORD put him to death.
  3. Then Judah said to Onan, "Lie with your brother's wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to produce offspring for your brother."
  4. But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he lay with his brother's wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother.
  5. What he did was wicked in the LORD's sight; so he put him to death also.
  1. 유다가 자기 맏아들 에르를 결혼시켰는데, 그 아내의 이름은 다말이다.
  2. 유다의 맏아들 에르가 주님께서 보시기에 악하므로, 주님께서 그를 죽게 하셨다.
  3. 유다가 오난에게 말하였다. "너는 형수와 결혼해서, 시동생으로서의 책임을 다해라. 너는 네 형의 이름을 이을 아들을 낳아야 한다."
  4. 그러나 오난은 아들을 낳아도 그가 자기 아들이 안 되는 것을 알고 있었으므로, 형수와 동침할 때마다, 형의 이름을 이을 아들을 낳지 않으려고, 정액을 땅바닥에 쏟아 버리곤 하였다.
  5. 그가 이렇게 한 것이 주님께서 보시기에 악하였다. 그래서 주님께서는 오난도 죽게 하셨다.
  1. Judah then said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, "Live as a widow in your father's house until my son Shelah grows up." For he thought, "He may die too, just like his brothers." So Tamar went to live in her father's house.
  2. After a long time Judah's wife, the daughter of Shua, died. When Judah had recovered from his grief, he went up to Timnah, to the men who were shearing his sheep, and his friend Hirah the Adullamite went with him.
  3. When Tamar was told, "Your father-in-law is on his way to Timnah to shear his sheep,"
  4. she took off her widow's clothes, covered herself with a veil to disguise herself, and then sat down at the entrance to Enaim, which is on the road to Timnah. For she saw that, though Shelah had now grown up, she had not been given to him as his wife.
  5. When Judah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute, for she had covered her face.
  1. 유다는 자기의 며느리 다말에게 말하였다. "나의 아들 셀라가 다 클 때까지, 너는 네 친정 아버지 집으로 돌아가서, 과부로 살고 있거라." 유다는 셀라를 다말에게 주었다가는, 셀라도 제 형들처럼 죽을지 모른다고 생각하였다.
  2. 그 뒤에 오랜 세월이 지나서, 수아의 딸 유다의 아내가 죽었다. 곡을 하는 기간이 끝났을 때에, 유다는 친구 아둘람 사람 히라와 함께 자기 양들의 털을 깎으러 딤나로 올라갔다.
  3. 다말은 "너의 시아버지가 양털을 깎으러 딤나로 올라간다" 하는 말을 전해 듣고서,
  4. 과부의 옷을 벗고, 너울을 써서 얼굴을 가리고, 딤나로 가는 길에 있는 에나임 어귀에 앉았다. 그것은 막내 아들 셀라가 이미 다 컸는데도, 유다가 자기와 셀라를 짝지어 주지 않았기 때문이다.
  5. 길을 가던 유다가 그를 보았지만, 얼굴을 가리고 있었으므로, 유다는 그가 창녀인 줄 알았다.
  1. Not realizing that she was his daughter-in-law, he went over to her by the roadside and said, "Come now, let me sleep with you." "And what will you give me to sleep with you?" she asked.
  2. "I'll send you a young goat from my flock," he said. "Will you give me something as a pledge until you send it?" she asked.
  3. He said, "What pledge should I give you?" "Your seal and its cord, and the staff in your hand," she answered. So he gave them to her and slept with her, and she became pregnant by him.
  4. After she left, she took off her veil and put on her widow's clothes again.
  5. Meanwhile Judah sent the young goat by his friend the Adullamite in order to get his pledge back from the woman, but he did not find her.
  1. 그래서 유다는 그가 자기 며느리인 줄도 모르고, 길가에 서 있는 그에게로 가서 말하였다. "너에게 잠시 들렀다 가마. 자, 들어가자." 그 때에 그가 물었다. "저에게 들어오시는 값으로, 저에게 무엇을 주시겠습니까?"
  2. 유다가 말하였다. "나의 가축 떼에서 새끼 염소 한 마리를 보내마." 그가 물었다. "그것을 보내실 때까지, 어떤 물건이든지 담보물을 주시겠습니까?"
  3. 유다가 물었다. "내가 너에게 어떤 담보물을 주랴?" 그가 대답하였다. "가지고 계신 도장과 허리끈과 가지고 다니시는 지팡이면 됩니다." 그래서 유다는 그것들을 그에게 맡기고서 그에게 들어갔는데, 다말이 유다의 아이를 임신하게 되었다.
  4. 다말은 집으로 돌아와서, 너울을 벗고, 도로 과부의 옷을 입었다.
  5. 한편 유다는 자기 친구 아둘람 사람 편에 새끼 염소 한 마리를 보내고, 그 여인에게서 담보물을 찾아오게 하였으나, 그 친구가 그 여인을 찾지 못하였다.
  1. He asked the men who lived there, "Where is the shrine prostitute who was beside the road at Enaim?" "There hasn't been any shrine prostitute here," they said.
  2. So he went back to Judah and said, "I didn't find her. Besides, the men who lived there said, 'There hasn't been any shrine prostitute here.' "
  3. Then Judah said, "Let her keep what she has, or we will become a laughingstock. After all, I did send her this young goat, but you didn't find her."
  4. About three months later Judah was told, "Your daughter-in-law Tamar is guilty of prostitution, and as a result she is now pregnant." Judah said, "Bring her out and have her burned to death!"
  5. As she was being brought out, she sent a message to her father-in-law. "I am pregnant by the man who owns these," she said. And she added, "See if you recognize whose seal and cord and staff these are."
  1. 그 친구는 거기에 사는 사람들에게, 에나임으로 가는 길 가에 서 있던 창녀가 어디에 있느냐고 물었다. 그러나 그들의 말이, 거기에는 창녀는 없다고 하였다.
  2. 그는 유다에게 돌아가서 말하였다. "그 여인을 찾지 못하였네. 그보다도, 거기에 사는 사람들이 그러는데, 거기에는 창녀가 없다고 하네."
  3. 유다가 말하였다. "가질 테면 가지라지. 잘못하다가는 창피만 당하겠네. 어찌하였든지, 나는 새끼 염소 한 마리를 보냈는데, 다만 자네가 그 여인을 찾지 못한 것뿐일세."
  4. 석 달쯤 지난 다음에, 유다는 자기의 며느리 다말이 창녀짓을 하여 임신까지 했다는 소문을 들었다. 유다가 명하였다. "그를 끌어내서 화형에 처하여라!"
  5. 그는 끌려 나오면서, 시아버지에게 전갈을 보냈다. "저는 이 물건 임자의 아이를 배었습니다" 하고 말하였다. 다말은 또 말을 계속하였다. "잘 살펴보십시오. 이 도장과 이 허리끈과 이 지팡이가 누구의 것입니까!"
  1. Judah recognized them and said, "She is more righteous than I, since I wouldn't give her to my son Shelah." And he did not sleep with her again.
  2. When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb.
  3. As she was giving birth, one of them put out his hand; so the midwife took a scarlet thread and tied it on his wrist and said, "This one came out first."
  4. But when he drew back his hand, his brother came out, and she said, "So this is how you have broken out!" And he was named Perez.
  5. Then his brother, who had the scarlet thread on his wrist, came out and he was given the name Zerah.
  1. 유다는 그 물건들을 알아보았다. "그 아이가 나보다 옳다! 나의 아들 셀라를 그 아이와 결혼시켰어야 했는데" 하고 말하였다. 유다는 그 뒤로 다시는 그를 가까이하지 않았다.
  2. 다말이 몸을 풀 때가 되었는데, 태 안에는 쌍둥이가 들어 있었다.
  3. 아기를 막 낳으려고 하는데, 한 아기가 손을 내밀었다. 산파가 진홍색 실을 가져다가, 그 아이의 손목에 감고서 말하였다. "이 아이가 먼저 나온 녀석이다."
  4. 그러나 그 아이는 손을 안으로 다시 끌어들였다. 그런 다음에 그의 아우가 먼저 나왔다. 산파가 "어찌하여 네가 터뜨리고 나오느냐!" 하고 말하였다. 그래서 이 아이 이름을 베레스라고 하고,
  5. 그의 형, 곧 진홍색 실로 손목이 묶인 아이가 뒤에 나오니, 아이 이름을 세라라고 하였다.
 
  임산(臨産, 38:27)  산기(産期)가 임박하여 고통이 시작됨
