- To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law.
- To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law), so as to win those not having the law.
- To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.
- I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

- 유대 사람들에게는, 유대 사람을 얻으려고 유대 사람같이 되었습니다. 율법 아래 있는 사람들에게는, 내가 율법 아래 있지 않으면서도, 율법 아래에 있는 사람을 얻으려고 율법 아래 있는 사람같이 되었습니다.
- 율법이 없이 사는 사람들에게는, 내가 하나님의 율법이 없이 사는 사람이 아니라 그리스도의 율법 안에서 사는 사람이지만, 율법 없이 사는 사람들을 얻으려고 율법 없이 사는 사람같이 되었습니다.

- 경기장에서 달리기하는 사람들이 모두 달리지만, 상을 받는 사람은 하나뿐이라는 것을 여러분은 알지 못합니까? 이와 같이 여러분도 상을 받을 수 있도록 달리십시오.
- 경기에 나서는 사람은 모든 일에 절제를 합니다. 그런데 그들은 썩어 없어질 월계관을 얻으려고 절제를 하는 것이지만, 우리는 썩지 않을 월계관을 얻으려고 하는 것입니다.
- 그러므로 나는 목표 없이 달리듯이 달리기를 하는 것이 아닙니다. 나는 허공을 치듯이 권투를 하는 것이 아닙니다.
