- 거만한 말이 미련한 사람에게는 안 어울린다. 하물며 거짓말이 통치자에게 어울리겠느냐?
- 뇌물을 쓰는 사람의 눈에는 뇌물이 요술방망이처럼 보인다. 어디에 쓰든 안 되는 일이 없다.
- 허물을 덮어 주면 사랑을 받고, 허물을 거듭 말하면 친구를 갈라놓는다.
- 미련한 사람을 백 번 매질하는 것보다 슬기로운 사람을 한 번 징계하는 것이 더 효과가 있다.
- 반역만을 꾀하는 악한 사람은 마침내 잔인한 사신의 방문을 받는다.
