  1. In the third month after the Israelites left Egypt--on the very day--they came to the Desert of Sinai.
  2. After they set out from Rephidim, they entered the Desert of Sinai, and Israel camped there in the desert in front of the mountain.
  3. Then Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain and said, "This is what you are to say to the house of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel:
  4. 'You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself.
  5. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine,
  1. In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.
  2. For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.
  3. And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;
  4. Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.
  5. Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
  1. you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites."
  2. So Moses went back and summoned the elders of the people and set before them all the words the LORD had commanded him to speak.
  3. The people all responded together, "We will do everything the LORD has said." So Moses brought their answer back to the LORD.
  4. The LORD said to Moses, "I am going to come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people will hear me speaking with you and will always put their trust in you." Then Moses told the LORD what the people had said.
  5. And the LORD said to Moses, "Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Have them wash their clothes
  1. And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
  2. And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.
  3. And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.
  4. And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD.
  5. And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes,
  1. and be ready by the third day, because on that day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.
  2. Put limits for the people around the mountain and tell them, 'Be careful that you do not go up the mountain or touch the foot of it. Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death.
  3. He shall surely be stoned or shot with arrows; not a hand is to be laid on him. Whether man or animal, he shall not be permitted to live.' Only when the ram's horn sounds a long blast may they go up to the mountain."
  4. After Moses had gone down the mountain to the people, he consecrated them, and they washed their clothes.
  5. Then he said to the people, "Prepare yourselves for the third day. Abstain from sexual relations."
  1. And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.
  2. And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:
  3. There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.
  4. And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.
  5. And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not at your wives.
  1. On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, with a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast. Everyone in the camp trembled.
  2. Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.
  3. Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the LORD descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, the whole mountain trembled violently,
  4. and the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder. Then Moses spoke and the voice of God answered him.
  5. The LORD descended to the top of Mount Sinai and called Moses to the top of the mountain. So Moses went up
  1. And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.
  2. And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.
  3. And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.
  4. And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.
  5. And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.
  1. and the LORD said to him, "Go down and warn the people so they do not force their way through to see the LORD and many of them perish.
  2. Even the priests, who approach the LORD, must consecrate themselves, or the LORD will break out against them."
  3. Moses said to the LORD, "The people cannot come up Mount Sinai, because you yourself warned us, 'Put limits around the mountain and set it apart as holy.' "
  4. The LORD replied, "Go down and bring Aaron up with you. But the priests and the people must not force their way through to come up to the LORD, or he will break out against them."
  5. So Moses went down to the people and told them.
  1. And the LORD said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.
  2. And let the priests also, which come near to the LORD, sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.
  3. And Moses said unto the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it.
  4. And the LORD said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the LORD, lest he break forth upon them.
  5. So Moses went down unto the people, and spake unto them.

  1. And God spoke all these words:
  2. "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
  3. "You shall have no other gods before me.
  4. "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
  5. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
  1. And God spake all these words, saying,
  2. I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
  3. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
  4. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
  5. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
  1. but showing love to a thousand {generations} of those who love me and keep my commandments.
  2. "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
  3. "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
  4. Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
  5. but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates.
  1. And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
  2. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
  3. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
  4. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
  5. But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
  1. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
  2. "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
  3. "You shall not murder.
  4. "You shall not commit adultery.
  5. "You shall not steal.
  1. For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
  2. Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
  3. Thou shalt not kill.
  4. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
  5. Thou shalt not steal.
  1. "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
  2. "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."
  3. When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance
  4. and said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die."
  5. Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning."
  1. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
  2. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
  3. And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.
  4. And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
  5. And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.
  1. The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.
  2. Then the LORD said to Moses, "Tell the Israelites this: 'You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven:
  3. Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.
  4. " 'Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you.
  5. If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it.
  1. And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.
  2. And the LORD said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.
  3. Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold.
  4. An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee.
  5. And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.
  1. And do not go up to my altar on steps, lest your nakedness be exposed on it.'
  1. Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.
