  1. "At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
  2. Five of them were foolish and five were wise.
  3. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.
  4. The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.
  5. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
  1. Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
  2. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
  3. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
  4. But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
  5. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
  1. "At midnight the cry rang out: 'Here's the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!'
  2. "Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.
  3. The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.'
  4. " 'No,' they replied, 'there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.'
  5. "But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
  1. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
  2. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
  3. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
  4. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
  5. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
  1. "Later the others also came. 'Sir! Sir!' they said. 'Open the door for us!'
  2. "But he replied, 'I tell you the truth, I don't know you.'
  3. "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
  4. "Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them.
  5. To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.
  1. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
  2. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
  3. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
  4. For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
  5. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.
  1. The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more.
  2. So also, the one with the two talents gained two more.
  3. But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money.
  4. "After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them.
  5. The man who had received the five talents brought the other five. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.'
  1. Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.
  2. And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.
  3. But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.
  4. After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
  5. And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.
  1. "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'
  2. "The man with the two talents also came. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with two talents; see, I have gained two more.'
  3. "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'
  4. "Then the man who had received the one talent came. 'Master,' he said, 'I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed.
  5. So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.'
  1. His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
  2. He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.
  3. His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
  4. Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:
  5. And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
  1. "His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed?
  2. Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
  3. " 'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents.
  4. For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.
  5. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
  1. His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:
  2. Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
  3. Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
  4. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
  5. And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
