  1. They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were,
  2. because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise."
  3. But they did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it.
  4. They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, "What were you arguing about on the road?"
  5. But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.
  1. And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.
  2. For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.
  3. But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.
  4. And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?
  5. But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.
  1. Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, "If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all."
  2. He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them,
  3. "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me."
  4. "Teacher," said John, "we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us."
  5. "Do not stop him," Jesus said. "No one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me,
  1. And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.
  2. And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,
  3. Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.
  4. And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
  5. But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.
  1. for whoever is not against us is for us.
  2. I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward.
  3. "And if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around his neck.
  4. If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out.
  1. For he that is not against us is on our part.
  2. For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
  3. And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
  4. And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
  5. Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
  1. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.
  2. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,
  3. where " 'their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.'
  4. Everyone will be salted with fire.
  1. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
  2. Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
  3. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:
  4. Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
  5. For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.
  1. "Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with each other."
  1. Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

  1. Jesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them.
  2. Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"
  3. "What did Moses command you?" he replied.
  4. They said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away."
  5. "It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law," Jesus replied.
  1. And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coasts of Judaea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again.
  2. And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him.
  3. And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?
  4. And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.
  5. And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.
  1. "But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.'
  2. 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,
  3. and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one.
  4. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."
  5. When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this.
  1. But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
  2. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
  3. And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
  4. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
  5. And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.
  1. He answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her.
  2. And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery."
  1. And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.
  2. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.
