  1. After this, Jesus and his disciples went out into the Judean countryside, where he spent some time with them, and baptized.
  2. Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water, and people were constantly coming to be baptized.
  3. (This was before John was put in prison.)
  4. An argument developed between some of John's disciples and a certain Jew over the matter of ceremonial washing.
  5. They came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan--the one you testified about--well, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him."
  1. After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.
  2. And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.
  3. For John was not yet cast into prison.
  4. Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying.
  5. And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.
  1. To this John replied, "A man can receive only what is given him from heaven.
  2. You yourselves can testify that I said, 'I am not the Christ but am sent ahead of him.'
  3. The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom's voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.
  4. He must become greater; I must become less.
  5. "The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all.
  1. John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
  2. Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
  3. He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
  4. He must increase, but I must decrease.
  5. He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.
  1. He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony.
  2. The man who has accepted it has certified that God is truthful.
  3. For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.
  4. The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands.
  5. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him."
  1. And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.
  2. He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.
  3. For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
  4. The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
  5. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
