  1. From Paphos, Paul and his companions sailed to Perga in Pamphylia, where John left them to return to Jerusalem.
  2. From Perga they went on to Pisidian Antioch. On the Sabbath they entered the synagogue and sat down.
  3. After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue rulers sent word to them, saying, "Brothers, if you have a message of encouragement for the people, please speak."
  4. Standing up, Paul motioned with his hand and said: "Men of Israel and you Gentiles who worship God, listen to me!
  5. The God of the people of Israel chose our fathers; he made the people prosper during their stay in Egypt, with mighty power he led them out of that country,
  1. Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.
  2. But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.
  3. And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.
  4. Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.
  5. The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.
  1. he endured their conduct for about forty years in the desert,
  2. he overthrew seven nations in Canaan and gave their land to his people as their inheritance.
  3. All this took about 450 years. "After this, God gave them judges until the time of Samuel the prophet.
  4. Then the people asked for a king, and he gave them Saul son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled forty years.
  5. After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: 'I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.'
  1. And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.
  2. And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot.
  3. And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.
  4. And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.
  5. And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.
  1. "From this man's descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised.
  2. Before the coming of Jesus, John preached repentance and baptism to all the people of Israel.
  3. As John was completing his work, he said: 'Who do you think I am? I am not that one. No, but he is coming after me, whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.'
  4. "Brothers, children of Abraham, and you God-fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent.
  5. The people of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize Jesus, yet in condemning him they fulfilled the words of the prophets that are read every Sabbath.
  1. Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:
  2. When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
  3. And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.
  4. Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.
  5. For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.
  1. Though they found no proper ground for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him executed.
  2. When they had carried out all that was written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.
  3. But God raised him from the dead,
  4. and for many days he was seen by those who had traveled with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. They are now his witnesses to our people.
  5. "We tell you the good news: What God promised our fathers
  1. And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.
  2. And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.
  3. But God raised him from the dead:
  4. And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.
  5. And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,
  1. he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm: " 'You are my Son; today I have become your Father.'
  2. The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to decay, is stated in these words: " 'I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.'
  3. So it is stated elsewhere: " 'You will not let your Holy One see decay.'
  4. "For when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his fathers and his body decayed.
  5. But the one whom God raised from the dead did not see decay.
  1. God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.
  2. And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.
  3. Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
  4. For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:
  5. But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.
  1. "Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.
  2. Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses.
  3. Take care that what the prophets have said does not happen to you:
  4. " 'Look, you scoffers, wonder and perish, for I am going to do something in your days that you would never believe, even if someone told you.'"
  5. As Paul and Barnabas were leaving the synagogue, the people invited them to speak further about these things on the next Sabbath.
  1. Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:
  2. And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
  3. Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;
  4. Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.
  5. And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
  1. When the congregation was dismissed, many of the Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who talked with them and urged them to continue in the grace of God.
  1. Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
