  1. They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him.
  2. "We are going up to Jerusalem," he said, "and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles,
  3. who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise."
  4. Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. "Teacher," they said, "we want you to do for us whatever we ask."
  5. "What do you want me to do for you?" he asked.
  1. They were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking on ahead of them; and they were amazed, and those who followed were fearful. And again He took the twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to happen to Him,
  2. saying, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and will hand Him over to the Gentiles.
  3. "They will mock Him and spit on Him, and scourge Him and kill Him, and three days later He will rise again."
  4. James and John, the two sons of Zebedee, came up to Jesus, saying, "Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask of You."
  5. And He said to them, "What do you want Me to do for you?"
  1. They replied, "Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory."
  2. "You don't know what you are asking," Jesus said. "Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?"
  3. "We can," they answered. Jesus said to them, "You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with,
  4. but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared."
  5. When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John.
  1. They said to Him, "Grant that we may sit, one on Your right and one on Your left, in Your glory."
  2. But Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?"
  3. They said to Him, "We are able." And Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink you shall drink; and you shall be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized.
  4. "But to sit on My right or on My left, this is not Mine to give; but it is for those for whom it has been prepared."
  5. Hearing this, the ten began to feel indignant with James and John.
  1. Jesus called them together and said, "You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.
  2. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
  3. and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.
  4. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
  1. Calling them to Himself, Jesus said to them, "You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them; and their great men exercise authority over them.
  2. "But it is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant;
  3. and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all.
  4. "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."

  1. Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (that is, the Son of Timaeus), was sitting by the roadside begging.
  2. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"
  3. Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"
  4. Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called to the blind man, "Cheer up! On your feet! He's calling you."
  5. Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
  1. Then they came to Jericho And as He was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a large crowd, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the road.
  2. When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"
  3. Many were sternly telling him to be quiet, but he kept crying out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"
  4. And Jesus stopped and said, "Call him here." So they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take courage, stand up! He is calling for you."
  5. Throwing aside his cloak, he jumped up and came to Jesus.
  1. "What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him. The blind man said, "Rabbi, I want to see."
  2. "Go," said Jesus, "your faith has healed you." Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
  1. And answering him, Jesus said, "What do you want Me to do for you?" And the blind man said to Him, "Rabboni, I want to regain my sight!"
  2. And Jesus said to him, "Go; your faith has made you well." Immediately he regained his sight and began following Him on the road.
