- Hear this, all you peoples; listen, all who live in this world,
- both low and high, rich and poor alike:
- My mouth will speak words of wisdom; the utterance from my heart will give understanding.
- I will turn my ear to a proverb; with the harp I will expound my riddle:
- Why should I fear when evil days come, when wicked deceivers surround me-

- Hear this, all peoples; Give ear, all inhabitants of the world,
- Both low and high, Rich and poor together.
- My mouth will speak wisdom, And the meditation of my heart will be understanding.
- I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will express my riddle on the harp.
- Why should I fear in days of adversity, When the iniquity of my foes surrounds me,

- those who trust in their wealth and boast of their great riches?
- No man can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for him-
- the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough-
- that he should live on forever and not see decay.
- For all can see that wise men die; the foolish and the senseless alike perish and leave their wealth to others.

- Even those who trust in their wealth And boast in the abundance of their riches?
- No man can by any means redeem his brother Or give to God a ransom for him--
- For the redemption of his soul is costly, And he should cease trying forever--
- That he should live on eternally, That he should not undergo decay.
- For he sees that even wise men die; The stupid and the senseless alike perish And leave their wealth to others.

- Their tombs will remain their houses forever, their dwellings for endless generations, though they had named lands after themselves.
- But man, despite his riches, does not endure; he is like the beasts that perish.

- Their inner thought is that their houses are forever And their dwelling places to all generations; They have called their lands after their own names.
- But man in his pomp will not endure; He is like the beasts that perish.
