  1. Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.
  2. I speak to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say.
  3. Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?
  4. Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf.
  5. Consider the people of Israel: Do not those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar?
  1. Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
  2. I speak as to wise men; you judge what I say.
  3. Is not the cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread which we break a sharing in the body of Christ?
  4. Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one bread.
  5. Look at the nation Israel; are not those who eat the sacrifices sharers in the altar?
  1. Do I mean then that a sacrifice offered to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything?
  2. No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons.
  3. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord's table and the table of demons.
  4. Are we trying to arouse the Lord's jealousy? Are we stronger than he?
  5. "Everything is permissible"--but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible"--but not everything is constructive.
  1. What do I mean then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?
  2. No, but I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not want you to become sharers in demons.
  3. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.
  4. Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? We are not stronger than He, are we?
  5. All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable All things are lawful, but not all things edify.
  1. Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.
  2. Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience,
  3. for, "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it."
  4. If some unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat whatever is put before you without raising questions of conscience.
  5. But if anyone says to you, "This has been offered in sacrifice," then do not eat it, both for the sake of the man who told you and for conscience' sake--
  1. Let no one seek his own good, but that of his neighbor.
  2. Eat anything that is sold in the meat market without asking questions for conscience' sake;
  3. FOR THE EARTH IS THE LORD'S, AND ALL IT CONTAINS.
  4. If one of the unbelievers invites you and you want to go, eat anything that is set before you without asking questions for conscience' sake.
  5. But if anyone says to you, "This is meat sacrificed to idols," do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for conscience' sake;
  1. the other man's conscience, I mean, not yours. For why should my freedom be judged by another's conscience?
  2. If I take part in the meal with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of something I thank God for?
  3. So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
  4. Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God--
  5. even as I try to please everybody in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.
  1. I mean not your own conscience, but the other man's; for why is my freedom judged by another's conscience?
  2. If I partake with thankfulness, why am I slandered concerning that for which I give thanks?
  3. Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
  4. Give no offense either to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God;
  5. just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit but the profit of the many, so that they may be saved.
