  1. Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the gospel
  2. without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved--and that by God.
  3. For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him,
  4. since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.
  1. Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;
  2. in no way alarmed by your opponents--which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God.
  3. For to you it has been granted for Christ's sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,
  4. experiencing the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

  1. If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,
  2. then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.
  3. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
  4. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
  5. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
  1. Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion,
  2. make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.
  3. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;
  4. do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
  5. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
  1. Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
  2. but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
  3. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!
  4. Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,
  5. that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
  1. who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
  2. but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
  3. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
  4. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,
  5. so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
  1. and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
  2. Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,
  3. for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.
  4. Do everything without complaining or arguing,
  5. so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe
  1. and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
  2. So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling;
  3. for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
  4. Do all things without grumbling or disputing;
  5. so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world,
  1. as you hold out the word of life--in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.
  2. But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.
  3. So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.
  1. holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.
  2. But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all.
  3. You too, I urge you, rejoice in the same way and share your joy with me.
