  1. Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.
  2. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin.
  3. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
  1. Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
  2. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.
  3. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

  1. Every high priest is selected from among men and is appointed to represent them in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.
  2. He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness.
  3. This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people.
  4. No one takes this honor upon himself; he must be called by God, just as Aaron was.
  5. So Christ also did not take upon himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father."
  1. For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in things pertaining to God, in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins;
  2. he can deal gently with the ignorant and misguided, since he himself also is beset with weakness;
  3. and because of it he is obligated to offer sacrifices for sins, as for the people, so also for himself.
  4. And no one takes the honor to himself, but receives it when he is called by God, even as Aaron was.
  5. So also Christ did not glorify Himself so as to become a high priest, but He who said to Him, "YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU";
  1. And he says in another place, "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."
  2. During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.
  3. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered
  4. and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him
  5. and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
  1. just as He says also in another passage, "YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK."
  2. In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety.
  3. Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered.
  4. And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation,
  5. being designated by God as a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.
  1. We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn.
  2. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!
  3. Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.
  4. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
  1. Concerning him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.
  2. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food.
  3. For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.
  4. But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.
