  1. Do not forsake your friend and the friend of your father, and do not go to your brother's house when disaster strikes you-- better a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.
  2. Be wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart; then I can answer anyone who treats me with contempt.
  3. The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
  4. Take the garment of one who puts up security for a stranger; hold it in pledge if he does it for a wayward woman.
  5. If a man loudly blesses his neighbor early in the morning, it will be taken as a curse.
  1. Do not forsake your own friend or your father's friend, And do not go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity; Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother far away.
  2. Be wise, my son, and make my heart glad, That I may reply to him who reproaches me.
  3. A prudent man sees evil and hides himself, The naive proceed and pay the penalty.
  4. Take his garment when he becomes surety for a stranger; And for an adulterous woman hold him in pledge.
  5. He who blesses his friend with a loud voice early in the morning, It will be reckoned a curse to him.
  1. A quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping on a rainy day;
  2. restraining her is like restraining the wind or grasping oil with the hand.
  3. As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.
  4. He who tends a fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who looks after his master will be honored.
  5. As water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man.
  1. A constant dripping on a day of steady rain And a contentious woman are alike;
  2. He who would restrain her restrains the wind, And grasps oil with his right hand.
  3. Iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens another.
  4. He who tends the fig tree will eat its fruit, And he who cares for his master will be honored.
  5. As in water face reflects face, So the heart of man reflects man.
