- After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem
- and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him."
- When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.
- When he had called together all the people's chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born.
- "In Bethlehem in Judea," they replied, "for this is what the prophet has written:

- イエス が， ヘロデ 王の 時代に， ユダヤ の ベツレヘム でお 生まれになったとき， 見よ， 東方の 博士たちが エルサレム にやって 來て， こう 言った．
- 「ユダヤ 人の 王としてお 生まれになった 方はどこにおいでになりますか． 私たちは， 東のほうでその 方の 星を 見たので， 拜みにまいりました． 」
- それを 聞いて， ヘロデ 王は 恐れ 惑った． エルサレム 中の 人も 王と 同樣であった．
- そこで， 王は， 民の 祭司長たち， 學者たちをみな 集めて， キリスト はどこで 生まれるのかと 問いただした．
- 彼らは 王に 言った． 「ユダヤ の ベツレヘム です． 預言者によってこう 書かれているからです．

- " 'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.'"
- Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared.
- He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him."
- After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.
- When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.

- 『ユダ の 地， ベツレヘム ． あなたは ユダ を 治める 者たちの 中で， 決して 一番小さくはない． わたしの 民 イスラエル を 治める 支配者が， あなたから 出るのだから． 』」
- そこで， ヘロデ はひそかに 博士たちを 呼んで， 彼らから 星の 出現の 時間を 突き 止めた．
- そして， こう 言って 彼らを ベツレヘム に 送った． 「行って 幼子のことを 詳しく 調べ， わかったら 知らせてもらいたい． 私も 行って 拜むから． 」
- 彼らは 王の 言ったことを 聞いて 出かけた． すると， 見よ， 東方で 見た 星が 彼らを 先導し， ついに 幼子のおられる 所まで 進んで 行き， その 上にとどまった．
- その 星を 見て， 彼らはこの 上もなく 喜んだ．

- On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.
- And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.
- When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. "Get up," he said, "take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him."
- So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt,
- where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son."

- そしてその 家にはいって， 母 マリヤ とともにおられる 幼子を 見， ひれ 伏して 拜んだ． そして， 寶の 箱をあけて， 黃金， 乳香， ¿藥を 贈り 物としてささげた．
- それから， 夢で ヘロデ のところへ 戾るなという 戒めを 受けたので， 別の 道から 自分の 國へ 歸って 行った．
- 彼らが 歸って 行ったとき， 見よ， 主の 使いが 夢で ヨセフ に 現われて 言った． 「立って， 幼子とその 母を 連れ， エジプト へ 逃げなさい． そして， 私が 知らせるまで， そこにいなさい． ヘロデ がこの 幼子を 搜し 出して 殺そうとしています． 」
- そこで， ヨセフ は 立って， 夜のうちに 幼子とその 母を 連れて エジプト に 立ちのき，
- ヘロデ が 死ぬまでそこにいた． これは， 主が 預言者を 通して， 「わたしは エジプト から， わたしの 子を 呼び 出した． 」と 言われた 事が 成就するためであった．

- When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi.
- Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled:
- "A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more."
- After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt
- and said, "Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child's life are dead."

- その 後， ヘロデ は， 博士たちにだまされたことがわかると， 非常におこって， 人をやって， ベツレヘム とその 近邊の 二歲以下の 男の 子をひとり 殘らず 殺させた． その 年令は 博士たちから 突き 止めておいた 時間から 割り 出したのである．
- そのとき， 預言者 エレミヤ を 通して 言われた 事が 成就した．
- 「ラマ で 聲がする． 泣き， そして 嘆き 叫ぶ 聲． ラケル がその 子らのために 泣いている． ラケル は 慰められることを 拒んだ． 子らがもういないからだ． 」
- ヘロデ が 死ぬと， 見よ， 主の 使いが， 夢で エジプト にいる ヨセフ に 現われて， 言った．
- 「立って， 幼子とその 母を 連れて， イスラエル の 地に 行きなさい． 幼子のいのちをつけねらっていた 人たちは 死にました． 」

- So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel.
- But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of Galilee,
- and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets: "He will be called a Nazarene."

- そこで， 彼は 立って， 幼子とその 母を 連れて， イスラエル の 地にはいった．
- しかし， アケラオ が 父 ヘロデ に 代わって ユダヤ を 治めていると 聞いたので， そこに 行ってとどまることを 恐れた． そして， 夢で 戒めを 受けたので， ガリラヤ 地方に 立ちのいた．
- そして， ナザレ という 町に 行って 住んだ． これは 預言者たちを 通して「この 方は ナザレ 人と 呼ばれる． 」と 言われた 事が 成就するためであった．
