	창세기 18:1-19:38 부지중에 아브라함은 인간의 모습으로 나타나신 하나님을 극진히 대접했다. 하나님께서는 그에게 아들이 있을 것과 소돔의 죄악을 심판하실 것을 말씀하셨다. 아브라함은 소돔을 위해 여섯 차례에 걸친 간구 끝에 의인 열 명만 있으면 멸망받지 않도록 하였으나 소돔은 멸망당하고 말았다. 천사들의 재촉으로 롯은 가족과 함께 성을 빠져 나왔지만 그의 아내는 소금 기둥이 되었다. 그 후 롯의 두 딸은 롯과 동침하여 자손을 낳았다.

	소돔을 위한 간구(18:1-18:33)

The LORD appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day.

Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground.

He said, "If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass your servant by.

Let a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet and rest under this tree.

Let me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on your way--now that you have come to your servant." "Very well," they answered, "do as you say."

主はマムレの ¿の木のそばで，アブラハムに現われた．彼は日の暑いころ，天幕の入口にすわっていた．

彼が目を上げて見ると，三人の人が彼に向かって立っていた．彼は，見るなり，彼らを迎えるために天幕の入口から走って行き，地にひれ伏して禮をした．

そして言った．「ご主人．お氣に召すなら，どうか，あなたのしもべのところを素通りなさらないでください．

少しばかりの水を持って來させますから，あなたがたの足を洗い，この木の下でお休みください．

So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah. "Quick," he said, "get three seahs of fine flour and knead it and bake some bread."

Then he ran to the herd and selected a choice, tender calf and gave it to a servant, who hurried to prepare it.

He then brought some curds and milk and the calf that had been prepared, and set these before them. While they ate, he stood near them under a tree.

"Where is your wife Sarah?" they asked him. "There, in the tent," he said.

Then the LORD said, "I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son." Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him.

そこで，アブラハムは天幕のサラのところに急いで戾って，言った．「早く，三セアの上等の小麥粉をこねて，パン菓子を作っておくれ．」

そしてアブラハムは牛のところに走って行き，柔らかくて，おいしそうな子牛を取り，若い者に渡した．若い者は手早くそれを料理した．

それからアブラハムは，凝乳と牛乳と，それに，料理した小牛を持って來て，彼らの前に供えた．彼は，木の下で彼らに給仕をしていた．こうして彼らは食べた．

彼らはアブラハムに尋ねた．「あなたの妻サラはどこにいますか．」それで「天幕の中にいます．」と答えた．

するとひとりが言った．「わたしは來年の今ごろ，必ずあなたのところに戾って來ます．そのとき，あなたの妻サラには，男の子ができている．」サラはその人のうしろの天幕の入口で，聞いていた．

Abraham and Sarah were already old and well advanced in years, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing.

So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, "After I am worn out and my master is old, will I now have this pleasure?"

Then the LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Will I really have a child, now that I am old?'

Is anything too hard for the LORD ? I will return to you at the appointed time next year and Sarah will have a son."

Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, "I did not laugh." But he said, "Yes, you did laugh."

アブラハムとサラは年を重ねて老人になっており，サラには普通の女にあることがすでに止まっていた．

それでサラは心の中で笑ってこう言った．「老いぼれてしまったこの私に，何の樂しみがあろう．それに主人も年寄りで．」

そこで，主がアブラハムに仰せられた．「サラはなぜ『私はほんとうに子を産めるだろうか．こんなに年をとっているのに．』と言って笑うのか．

主に不可能なことがあろうか．わたしは來年の今ごろ，定めた時に，あなたのところに戾って來る．そのとき，サラには男の子ができている．」

サラは「私は笑いませんでした．」と言って打ち消した．恐ろしかったのである．しかし主は仰せられた．「いや，確かにあなたは笑った．」

When the men got up to leave, they looked down toward Sodom, and Abraham walked along with them to see them on their way.

Then the LORD said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?

Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him.

For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, so that the LORD will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him."

Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous

その人たちは，そこを立って，ソドムを見おろすほうへ上って行った．アブラハムも彼らを見送るために，彼らといっしょに步いていた．

主はこう考えられた．「わたしがしようとしていることを，アブラハムに隱しておくべきだろうか．

アブラハムは必ず大いなる强い國民となり，地のすべての國¿は，彼によって祝福される．

わたしが彼を選び出したのは，彼がその子らと，彼の後の家族とに命じて主の道を守らせ，正義と公正とを行なわせるため，主が，アブラハムについて約束したことを，彼の上に成就するためである．」

そこで主は仰せられた．「ソドムとゴモラの叫びは非常に大きく，また彼らの罪はきわめて重い．

that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know."

The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the LORD.

Then Abraham approached him and said: "Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?

What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it?

Far be it from you to do such a thing--to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?"

わたしは下って行って，わたしに屆いた叫びどおりに，彼らが實際に行なっているかどうかを見よう．わたしは知りたいのだ．」

その人たちはそこからソドムのほうへと進んで行った．アブラハムはまだ，主の前に立っていた．

アブラハムは近づいて申し上げた．「あなたはほんとうに，正しい者を，惡い者といっしょに滅ぼし盡くされるのですか．

もしや，その町の中に五十人の正しい者がいるかもしれません．ほんとうに滅ぼしてしまわれるのですか．その中にいる五十人の正しい者のために，その町をお赦しにはならないのですか．

正しい者を惡い者といっしょに殺し，そのため，正しい者と惡い者とが同じようになるというようなことを，あなたがなさるはずがありません．とてもありえないことです．全世界をさばくお方は，公義を行なうべきではありませんか．」

The LORD said, "If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake."

Then Abraham spoke up again: "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes,

what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city because of five people?" "If I find forty-five there," he said, "I will not destroy it."

Once again he spoke to him, "What if only forty are found there?" He said, "For the sake of forty, I will not do it."

Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be found there?" He answered, "I will not do it if I find thirty there."

主は答えられた．「もしソドムで，わたしが五十人の正しい者を町の中に見つけたら，その人たちのために，その町全部を赦そう．」

アブラハムは答えて言った．「私はちりや灰にすぎませんが，あえて主に申し上げるのをお許しください．

もしや五十人の正しい者に五人不足しているかもしれません．その五人のために，あなたは町の全部を滅ぼされるでしょうか．」主は仰せられた．「滅ぼすまい．もしそこにわたしが四十五人を見つけたら．」

そこで，再び尋ねて申し上げた．「もしやそこに四十人見つかるかもしれません．」すると仰せられた．「滅ぼすまい．その四十人のために．」

また彼は言った．「主よ．どうかお怒りにならないで，私に言わせてください．もしやそこに三十人見つかるかもしれません．」主は仰せられた．「滅ぼすまい．もしそこにわたしが三十人を見つけたら．」

Abraham said, "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?" He said, "For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it."

Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?" He answered, "For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it."

When the LORD had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home.

彼は言った．「私があえて，主に申し上げるのをお許しください．もしやそこに二十人見つかるかもしれません．」すると仰せられた．「滅ぼすまい．その二十人のために．」

彼はまた言った．「主よ．どうかお怒りにならないで，今一度だけ私に言わせてください．もしやそこに十人見つかるかもしれません．」すると主は仰せられた．「滅ぼすまい．その十人のために．」

主はアブラハムと語り終えられると，去って行かれた．アブラハムは自分の家へ歸って行った．

	소돔과 고모라의 멸망(19:1-19:38)

The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground.

"My lords," he said, "please turn aside to your servant's house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning." "No," they answered, "we will spend the night in the square."

But he insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast, and they ate.

Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom--both young and old--surrounded the house.

They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."

そのふたりの御使いは夕暮れにソドムに着いた．ロトはソドムの門のところにすわっていた．ロトは彼らを見るなり，立ち上がって彼らを迎え，顔を地につけて伏し拜んだ．

そして言った．「さあ，ご主人．どうか，あなたがたのしもべの家に立ち寄り，足を洗って，お泊まりください．そして，朝早く旅を續けてください．」すると彼らは言った．「いや，わたしたちは廣場に泊まろう．」

しかし，彼がしきりに勸めたので，彼らは彼のところに向かい，彼の家の中にはいった．ロトは彼らのためにごちそうを作り，パン種を入れないパンを燒いた．こうして彼らは食事をした．

Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him

and said, "No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing.

Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don't do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof."

"Get out of our way," they replied. And they said, "This fellow came here as an alien, and now he wants to play the judge! We'll treat you worse than them." They kept bringing pressure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door.

But the men inside reached out and pulled Lot back into the house and shut the door.

ロトは戶口にいる彼らのところに出て，うしろの戶をしめた．

そして言った．「兄弟たちよ．どうか惡いことはしないでください．

お願いですから．私にはまだ男を知らない二人の娘があります．娘たちをみなの前に連れて來ますから，あなたがたの好きなようにしてください．ただ，あの人たちには何もしないでください．あの人たちは私の屋根の下に身を寄せたのですから．」

しかし彼らは言った．「引っ ¿んでいろ．」そしてまた言った．「こいつはよそ者として來たくせに，さばきつかさのようにふるまっている．さあ，おまえを，あいつらよりもひどいめに合わせてやろう．」彼らはロトのからだを激しく押しつけ，戶を破ろうと近づいて來た．

すると，あの人たちが手を差し伸べて，ロトを自分たちのいる家の中に連れ ¿んで，戶をしめた．

Then they struck the men who were at the door of the house, young and old, with blindness so that they could not find the door.

The two men said to Lot, "Do you have anyone else here--sons-in-law, sons or daughters, or anyone else in the city who belongs to you? Get them out of here,

because we are going to destroy this place. The outcry to the LORD against its people is so great that he has sent us to destroy it."

So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters. He said, "Hurry and get out of this place, because the LORD is about to destroy the city!" But his sons-in-law thought he was joking.

With the coming of dawn, the angels urged Lot, saying, "Hurry! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away when the city is punished."

家の戶口にいた者たちは，小さい者も大きい者もみな，目つぶしをくらったので，彼らは戶口を見つけるのに疲れ果てた．

ふたりはロトに言った．「ほかにあなたの身內の者がここにいますか．あなたの ¿やあなたの息子，娘，あるいはこの町にいるあなたの身內の者をみな，この場所から連れ出しなさい．

わたしたちはこの場所を滅ぼそうとしているからです．彼らに對する叫びが主の前で大きくなったので，主はこの町を滅ぼすために，わたしたちを遣わされたのです．」

そこでロトは出て行き，娘たちをめとった ¿たちに告げて言った．「立ってこの場所から出て行きなさい．主がこの町を滅ぼそうとしておられるから．」しかし，彼の ¿たちには，それは冗談のように思われた．

夜が明けるころ，御使いたちはロトを促して言った．「さあ立って，あなたの妻と，ここにいるふたりの娘たちを連れて行きなさい．さもないと，あなたはこの町の咎のために滅ぼし盡くされてしまおう．」

When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the LORD was merciful to them.

As soon as they had brought them out, one of them said, "Flee for your lives! Don't look back, and don't stop anywhere in the plain! Flee to the mountains or you will be swept away!"

But Lot said to them, "No, my lords, please!

Your servant has found favor in your eyes, and you have shown great kindness to me in sparing my life. But I can't flee to the mountains; this disaster will overtake me, and I'll die.

Look, here is a town near enough to run to, and it is small. Let me flee to it--it is very small, isn't it? Then my life will be spared."

しかし彼はためらっていた．すると，その人たちは彼の手と彼の妻の手と，ふたりの娘の手をつかんだ． ··主の彼に對するあわれみによる．そして彼らを連れ出し，町の外に置いた．

彼らを外のほうに連れ出したとき，そのひとりは言った．「いのちがけで逃げなさい．うしろを振り返ってはいけない．この低地のどこででも立ち止まってはならない．山に逃げなさい．さもないと滅ぼされてしまう．」

ロトは彼らに言った．「主よ．どうか，そんなことになりませんように．

ご覽ください．このしもべはあなたの心にかない，あなたは私のいのちを救って大きな惠みを與えてくださいました．しかし，私は，山に逃げることができません．わざわいが追いついて，たぶん私は死ぬでしょう．

ご覽ください．あそこの町は，のがれるのに近いのです．しかもあんなに小さいのです．どうか，あそこに逃げさせてください．あんなに小さいではありませんか．私のいのちを生かしてください．」

He said to him, "Very well, I will grant this request too; I will not overthrow the town you speak of.

But flee there quickly, because I cannot do anything until you reach it." (That is why the town was called Zoar. )

By the time Lot reached Zoar, the sun had risen over the land.

Then the LORD rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah--from the LORD out of the heavens.

Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, including all those living in the cities--and also the vegetation in the land.

その人は彼に言った．「よろしい．わたしはこのことでも，あなたの願いを入れ，あなたの言うその町を滅ぼすまい．

急いでそこへのがれなさい．あなたがあそこにはいるまでは，わたしは何もできないから．」それゆえ，その町の名はツォアルと呼ばれた．

But Lot's wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.

Early the next morning Abraham got up and returned to the place where he had stood before the LORD.

He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, toward all the land of the plain, and he saw dense smoke rising from the land, like smoke from a furnace.

So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived.

Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave.

ロトのうしろにいた彼の妻は，振り返ったので，鹽の柱になってしまった．

翌朝早く，アブラハムは，かつて主の前に立ったあの場所に行った．

One day the older daughter said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is no man around here to lie with us, as is the custom all over the earth.

Let's get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father."

That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

The next day the older daughter said to the younger, "Last night I lay with my father. Let's get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him so we can preserve our family line through our father."

So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went and lay with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

そうこうするうちに，姉は妹に言った．「お父さんは年をとっています．この地には，この世のならわしのように，私たちのところに來る男の人などいません．

さあ，お父さんに酒を飮ませ，いっしょに寢て，お父さんによって子孫を殘しましょう．」

その夜，彼女たちは父親に酒を飮ませ，姉がはいって行き，父と寢た．ロトは彼女が寢たのも，起きたのも知らなかった．

その翌日，姉は妹に言った．「ご覽．私は昨夜，お父さんと寢ました．今夜もまた，お父さんに酒を飮ませましょう．そして，あなたが行って，いっしょに寢なさい．そうして，私たちはお父さんによって，子孫を殘しましょう．」

その夜もまた，彼女たちは父に酒を飮ませ，妹が行って，いっしょに寢た．ロトは彼女が寢たのも，起きたのも知らなかった．

So both of Lot's daughters became pregnant by their father.

The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab ; he is the father of the Moabites of today.

The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi ; he is the father of the Ammonites of today.

こうして，ロトのふたりの娘は，父によってみごもった．

姉は男の子を産んで，その子をモアブと名づけた．彼は今日のモアブ人の先祖である．

妹もまた，男の子を産んで，その子をベン · アミと名づけた．彼は今日のアモン人の先祖である．
